A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I just watched Stephen Kinnock on Sky, and its left me scratching my head. I don't understand Labour at all.
He described Brexit as 'an act of economic self harm'.
Obviously the next question was - what are Labour going to do about it then? His answer was basically - nothing.

There has been similar mood music from Starmer recently. I understand why Labour want to capitalise on Brexit because they can sell it as Farage's baby blah blah blah, but surely its pointless banging that particular drum if they don't plan on doing anything about it? They're in government ffs.

Thanks for the new thread!

I’m loving watching Kemi at PMQs. She is ferocious and really clear. My favourite part is when the camera cuts to Reeves and Starmer - they both look so uncomfortable and I swear they would run out if they could.

How long either of them have left don’t know but surely they will be gone within the next six months.

Who is left though?

I hope people will start to see the good work Kemi is putting in. She is holding a mirror up the the government and making them accountable whilst they they try to slither and writhe away from her questions. She has PM written all over her.

Agree

Yes exactly this. It's puzzling. You're the government - reverse Brexit if you hate it so much. Okay so it wasn't in your manifesto but hey, that's no biggie, right?

Yeah, because everybody in the EU is doing so well. In the 'wrong' info I posted about GDP Capita yesterday I said the UK would drop number 30 in the world (eventually) Well Germany and France are going the same way. Currently Germany are 18th marginally ahead of UK in 20th and France 24th
List of countries by GDP (nominal) per capita - Wikipedia

The EU is doing 'Shit', the United Kingdom would still be in the same position if we were trapped in the European Union. How, can Labour and all of those who have not 'moved 'on deny how rubbish it is in Europe currently, continue to promote BS about how we would be so great if Brexit had not happened. Unfortunately there are many 'Left Wing' Retired Public Sector Europhile's who all they wanted to do was to retire to France. These, people still buy the 'crap' and unfortunately there are a large number of non informed people who do not believe the European Union GDP per capita is Shrinking.

Glad its not just me.
This kind of behaviour is expected in opposition, but not from the party in power. It makes them look even more incompetent.
Yes, the manifesto doesn't seem to stop them doing anything does it. That was a shit excuse 😂

@redange
I wasn't suggesting that we should re-join. I just find it odd that Labour want to pick this fight, whilst doing nothing about it. They don't seem to realise that they're in power, so carping without action doesn't cut it.

But that's the theme of this Labour government IMO. They don't seem to have really absorbed the fact they are no longer in Opposition- or indeed that it's not student politics.

@TheNuthatch thank you for the new thread

Haven't had a chance to watch Kemi PMQs yet, not sure I will though probably should as I enjoyed her budget response so much.

For those who are unaware, Nigel Farage has ruled out any kind of deal or whatever. He posted himself to say that was not an option. I don't actually follow him so I don't recall exactly what he said, I just had a quick glance at it. He seemed quite annoyed by the FT story.

Meanwhile, excellent work continues from the Crewkerne Gazette. It's got me interested in how they churn these out so quickly. They're not all a high standard, but this is really good. Wondering to what extent AI writes the lyrics. They will obviously have to do a lot of curation and creative input, so I'm impressed. "who the hell in charge cause it ain't Starmer anymore" - I feel like a human being probably came up with that bit?

On a totally different note, I was listening to Sam Fender "hypersonic missiles" and like many of his songs, I feel like it's very on point. "all the silver suits and cartoons who rule my world, are saying it's high time for hypersonic missiles"

Don't think about it for too long because it's actually rather depressing how much we are at the mercy of politicians!

his song "crumbling Empire" is actually too difficult to listen to in some ways, but of course he and I have a completely different view on why it's crumbling!

This is a really good point!!!
I remember many years ago studying politics at a university in another country, discussing whether the Labour Party’s role in the UK was to be Opposition, not an actual party of government, which it could never properly fulfil.

Thanks Nuthatch for the new thread.
If, as was mentioned on the previous thread, Labour ban wood burning stoves then surely open fires won’t be far behind.
As a pp mentioned, those in rural areas will freeze to death in the event of a electricity blackout.

EmeraldRoulette · 03/12/2025 22:00

Didn't Boris Johnson also talk about banning woodburning stoves, etc?

Why is everyone mad 😭

Construction activity for October '25.

Detailed planning approvals - down 32% against previous year.
Main contract awards - down 32%.
Project starts - down 39%.

Piss up and brewery springs to mind.

Planning has gone to hell in a hand basket here. Glacially slow considering how little work they have to do. They're inventing issues and writing reams of nonsense.

Think they're trying to hang onto their jobs?

We'd freeze. Central heating doesn't work without electricity which surprised a frightening percentage when they were told 🙄

Possibly.

This is really bad, what are Labour doing? They went on about building more to get growth.

It’s concerning as construction is usually an indicator.

Just picking up this point. I don't think they have any intention of doing anything about it but it does double duty in providing a narrative of masking the harm that Labour have inflicted on our economic landscape and also bat signalling to those on the left who have migrated from Labour to the other parties that they (for the large part - ignoring a left tradition that has since been jettisoned that rallied for sovereignty and accountability, Tony Benn and the like etc) share a common identity and grievance on this point.

I know, its the canary in the mine. I rarely see it mentioned on MSM. Also worth noting that many in construction trade as small Ltd companies, so they've just been hit with a 2% increase in dividend tax too.

I really should stop checking output reports now, but old habits die hard. 😬

It's awful, isn't it? And while the construction industry slows down, we'll lose those in-demand construction skills as those individuals move to where there is work, making it even harder to get the show in the road when this shower of incompetents are replaced in the next general election.

TheNuthatch · 04/12/2025 09:20

Here we go again 🙄

Four mayoral elections due to take place in May have been postponed again until 2028. Essex, Hampshire and the Solent, Sussex and Brighton, and Norfolk and Suffolk.
They should have taken place in 2025, but were delayed until 2026.

What’s going on. How can there be any excuse for no votes for this long?

Plus the facial recognition roll out proposed today. Bloody Labour.
