A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Signed the Petition to stop Power to remove local Elections.

It does Worry me though, because I also signed the demand for a Immediate General Election, that the algorithms will sense that I am a 'Trouble Causer' or A Far Right Fanatic .....

I honestly would not worry about that.

This government declared hostilities on many of us from the off - let these terrible people reap the whirlwind.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/12/2025 21:14

@redange oh I see, sorry I should've thought of that in terms of turkeys and Christmas.

With the petition, I'm not sure. I still don't know when I'm just being paranoid. I had quite a lot of anti-lockdown stuff on my social media. I genuinely thought I would end up on a watchlist somewhere. But I think in 2022 I was still invited to something at Parliament. (I think I've mentioned it here, I don't go to anything at Parliament anymore). But I was genuinely surprised by the invitation. I do wonder if it was part of a block invite from an organisation, and obviously I pass security vetting so perhaps that's all they did. Maybe they would look at social media now?

ChristmasMantleStatue · 21/12/2025 07:42

I signed the petition and had a thought afterwards.... Although I have lived here I am on an Indefinite Leave to Remain visa. I actually spent some time wondering if that might make me vulnerable.

This is the Labour Government we live in under now.

Your fears are unfounded.

The UK is still a democracy, despite Starmer’s best efforts. People are allowed to vent their frustrations without fear of petty reprisals. The government are already on very thin ice, to create another Lucy Connolly** or Allison Pearson type headline would be terrible optics.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 21/12/2025 08:11

I don't think my fears are unfounded at all.

Reform have said they will rescind IDLR retrospectively and frankly governments can make any laws they choose. If this Government can unilaterally decide to cancel democratic elections then they are no longer adhering to democratic principles.

EasternStandard · 21/12/2025 08:24

I’m worried about Labour using digital ID to control SM and pretty much use state control where they can. I wouldn’t put it past Starmer.

By signing the petition, how do you see yourself becoming ‘vulnerable’?

Upstartled · 21/12/2025 09:40

I think if we ever got to the point where people would lose their indefinite leave to remain for signing a petition that asks for more safeguards around democracy then we'll all be packing our bags to leave.

We live in times when we have come to take our democratic freedoms for granted. It's arrogance to think exists like gravity and isn't achieved by good practice, accountability and understanding the values that underpin it.

I feel like Labour are harming our democratic hygiene and dh - also on an idl visa - and I have signed it. But this isn't the Soviet Union - it isn't helpful or accurate to worry that we are only a hair's breadth away from the gulag for whispering dissent.

Nor is it helpful to suggest that Reform have designs on exporting immigrants wholesale rather than switching to a continuing five year visa option as an alternative to citizenship. It's not ideal - I'm not fond of it - but it's a long way from being jettisoned from the country for signing a petition.

I just think that the things which are happening now under the Labour government are not ideal and that the response for more and better scrutiny and accountability is the answer.

It's not just Starmer. Judging by their actions so far, this shower are all from the same batch number.

I clearly remember watching Reeves being interviewed in 2024 pre-election; the "mean girl" personified. Labour has a lot of these women, and it's worrying.

CambridgeSingers · 21/12/2025 10:32

Completely agree @DancingFerret and @EasternStandard we need better protection from government control, not better tools for govt to control us…

It is, but they are blindingly transparent - we can all see what they are doing.

They are also hugely fallible, and the way to be rid of them prior to a GE, is to keep their feet to the fire, scrutinised, challenged, called out. Never stop, never let up.

The electorate, the media, the markets.

Upstartled · 21/12/2025 12:28

Idk, unless she is holding the bar up each night, it's a cheap way for a regular Joe to fill column inches about the pressures faced by landlords and demonstrate the harm being done to the constituents that returned her to Parliament. He clearly feels confident enough that his customers have sympathy for his outlook. She might be a bit troubled.

Whoa, looks real to me.

Cause and effect, Tom, dear boy.

And how about you stop the gaslighting, too.

Upstartled · 21/12/2025 12:48

Why is this pub - which we are destroying with taxation - not being inclusive to us? Fucking idiot.

Those were my first thoughts.

Absolute fucking idiot - and a fucking shandy drinking wet blanket too.

Upstartled · 21/12/2025 12:57

Tom Hayes will be another looking for another job if the MRP polls are close to accurate. He can blame Rachel Reeves for that, not the local landlord.

This will just piss people off even more and give them a reason to laugh. It’s not going to help Starmer at all.

Upstartled · 21/12/2025 13:09

"I'd explain, but it's classified?"

That'll have the youngsters on the edge of their seat. 🙄

Only Labour comms could have the benefit of a fighter jet and still make Starmer look like a bored librarian counting down the last hour till freedom.

He’s a tiny man masquerading as a big one.

Quite.

Hardly Top Gun, is it?

’It’s classified - I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you’

That might be a mercy, compared to your shitshow of a government.

800 migrants arrived by boat yesterday, highest ever tally for a day in December.
