A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Labour are also ditching the daily press briefing from No.10.
They are above scrutiny.

Yes, I read how they were planning to do this and making themselves less available to account for themselves.

I dread to think what the place will look like by the time of the next general election.

Same. I also worry about Starmer using the ultimate GE cancelling tactic, he’s that craven.

Idk how anyone can back them still. Although Cornwall less that 1% do in that vote at least.

There is a petition. Not sure if we're allowed to link these, but here goes.

Thanks I’ve signed

I've signed that petition and sent it on to family, thanks @TheNuthatch

Julen7 · 20/12/2025 10:00

I’ve signed it too. It has reached 100,000:signatures so will be debated in parliament, if Starmer doesn’t ban that too.

I thought they were ditching the afternoon one but the morning one is still happening?

Thanks. Let's see.
I heard on The Times podcast that they were planning to just have them whenever they feel like it. 🤷‍♂️

Entirely predictable. I imagine retailers everywhere are hoping she chokes on her turkey.

Thanks.
Not surprising really is it? The budget was a car crash, and so late in the year.

I went to a big retail park yesterday. Its usually heaving at this time of year and its a struggle to park. There were loads of spaces and the shops were pretty quiet.
I also phoned to book a table for 6 at a popular restaurant for this weekend. I expected a big fat no, but booked easily for tonight.
Worrying times.

In Wales the 20 mph petition needed 10k signatures to be debated in the Senedd. There were over, 400k signatures. They ignored it. Democracy was dismantled in Wales first. Starmer just copying it.

Awful isn’t it.

Even when petitions are debated in parliament though it seems not very much ever happens.

I can't find it now (grr) but I read somewhere yesterday that the cons had cancelled some of theirs. It will benefit them, so probably seen as a good opportunity.
I was hoping they would take the high ground and go ahead, but it seems not.

That's really annoying. They really should have taken the high ground and gone ahead.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/12/2025 10:48

@TheNuthatch trying hard to be objective here

I could initially see why two press conferences per day might seem unnecessary, but then again, it's potentially good to have because there's always gonna be questions that people couldn't fit in in the morning

With the local government elections, I wonder if it's the case that some councils genuinely feel it's too much hassle to question the government? Just a thought.

I mean, obviously that's not good, the election should take place regardless. But I'm also not in favour of the local government reorganisation organisation

I don't know whose idea it was but to me it means the council will become even more remote and I would like to see more local engagement, not less. I also don't particularly want a Mayor. It will be a complete waste of money and we will get more nonsense strategy people on high pay, who have absolutely no idea what's going on. Meanwhile things like massive potholes will still go on.

all the practical tasks that need attention will get ignored even more than they already are

By the way, someone explained to me that road repairs and temporary traffic lights are now basically a money making racket. There's so much of it going on around here I was genuinely puzzled. But that seems to be the reason why.

The Labour party have used Conservative Councillors as hostages . This is a 'Outrage' they have very cunningly given Councillors the choice of Employment or Redundancy. Not surprising then that a 'local' or County Conservative representative, has for their own 'well being' to agree with the cancellation of local elections twice in 19 months.

Disgusting Corruption and it is ironic, all the Demonic Lefties are convinced that Trump was going to cancel all elections in the US. Guess what all the Mid Term Elections and Senate ETC are going along untouched. Since things come in threes what next from this cabal of 'Third World' Banana Politicians. If the Labour Party had any shred of decency left within it, you would surely see a number of Labour MP's tearing up their memberships and sitting as Independents, if they could not personally 'Cross the floor'

EmeraldRoulette · 20/12/2025 11:05

@redange please could you explain more about the redundancies? Thank you.

redange · 20/12/2025 11:05

Signed the Petition to stop Power to remove local Elections.

It does Worry me though, because I also signed the demand for a Immediate General Election, that the algorithms will sense that I am a 'Trouble Causer' or A Far Right Fanatic .....

redange · 20/12/2025 11:16

The fact that the conservative Councillors will not vote for Christmas like Turkeys. Whether remunerations are Called Expenses, or in reality very useful amounts of income that in the current circumstances are desirable is debatable.

However, nobody given the opportunity to save yourself politically, and not requires a highly 'dignified' and significantly concerned individual about thier accountability in public office. Sadly these types of people are not very available !

redange · 20/12/2025 11:17

their accountability...

This comes as no surprise.

I've pull back on spending this year, not because I can't afford it but because I don't know what the immediate future holds. Im assuming I'm not alone in that.

I've also had a few emails from clothing companies over the last week or so who have started their sales early so I guessed sales were down.

Is this what growing the economy looks like?

Yes, they littered the papers in the pre-christmas run up with narratives of doom and floating dramatic policy choices and emergency fiscal briefings and then dumped the autumn budget on the populations just days before Black Friday. It's hardly surprising that the black Friday sales aren't doing the heavy lifting of hauling our retailers into profit at the end of the year.

If they had to engineer a piss poor economic landscape and job insecurity in 18 months, they couldn't have done a better job since they came into power.

And then I see the wooly minded have accepted the lowered base rate of evidence that Labour have done something good - when the reality is the exact opposite. But, of course, what can you expect from followers who will pledge their allegiance to a party by complying with reality defying truth claims? Morons.

Yep. Utterly clueless.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 20/12/2025 13:42

I went to an outlet complex a couple of weeks ago (not high-end, not the likes of Bicester). Much quieter than I expected.

That said, I’m never convinced that retail sales are predictable because so much is bought online now. And the supermarkets do seem busy.

But I will not be surprised if consumer spending has dipped when the figures come out in January. The economic weather is terrible for most. Thanks Rachel 🙄

Dan Hodges details why he thinks KS is on borrowed time as PM.

(He also thinks KS is a "genuinely compassionate man." Okaaaay.🙄)
