Come on, let's not fall out amongst ourselves.

Starmer has effed up. Let's hope lessons are learned and that Labour can pull together and get past all this.

I’ve said this at least once a month for the last 16 months Pandora 🤣 It’s so frustrating!
Watched Question Time as usual last night and worried myself by thinking if Ken Clark’s name was on a ballot I’d be voting for him!

Nods to a new Monitor.

Ten weeks of ‘leaked’ Budget plans.
Yes, I have no doubt some of that was kite flying but a fucktonne of it was pure speculation - Reeves will tax your Hamster stuff - aimed at destabilising.

The Budget should not have been left this late - left the door wide open for exactly this crap.

Regardless you can’t make up what’s needed through loads of smaller taxes.

I think the expression is “raid your hamsters tax” 😉🤣

itsgettingweird · 14/11/2025 07:57

I must admit I find it interesting that there is an apparent U turn over something not even announced yet?!

Added to that those who complained about tax rises will now complain there is no money.

Those saying the 24/7 media coverage and needing it to be dramatic are spot on imo.

No drama - we’ll invent some 🙄

DuncinToffee · 14/11/2025 08:27

Have a Good Friday, is Christmas really banned then? I know there are hot cross buns for sale all year round now.

I have posted on wrong threads but only on ones I was actively involved with.

It's wet out.

I have always thought Ken Clarke would be a very interesting man to have a pint with! I like him.

So. No income tax rise. No change to the tax free pension lump sum sum. No civil unrest.

👋 to new monitor 🤔

Notonthestairs · 14/11/2025 08:40

I thought income tax rises were inevitable. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not pretending I was pleased about it. Just understood the need.

Same here. Didn't everyone think that after the speech Reeves gave? But reading it again, she was very vague about everything really.

PickAChew · 14/11/2025 08:59

There would be an extreme expression of outrage by one member of this household if hot Cross buns were only sold during lent. All the current froth about things that haven't even happened would pale into insignificance in comparison.

DuncinToffee · 14/11/2025 09:01

I like hot cross buns, quick snack and great with cheese Smile

Cheese?😱

bombastix · 14/11/2025 09:05

They aren’t bad with Wensleydale

Hot cross buns (well stale ones) used to be worn in times of plague on a string to ward off evil spirits and disease

I never have any stale ones, so it’s academic in my house!

DuncinToffee · 14/11/2025 09:06

Don't start on cheese Pandora, friendly warning 🧀

You savage.

Go home and eat krentenbollen. 😂

bombastix · 14/11/2025 09:08

I quite like the “tax your hamster” for the next thread title

Deafnotdumb · 14/11/2025 09:08

Reeves choice are clear but unpalatable.

  • Raise one of the Big Three taxes that bring in the bulk of Governmrmt income (VAT, NI or income tax)
Or
  • Make cuts to the NHS and welfare system as they make up 49% of expenditure. Salami slicing everything else won't touch the sides especially when debt interest costs more than the entire schools budget. I get why Reeves wants to bring it down and she’s pinning her hopes on productivity - every western Government would prefer to inflate away the debt.

However, she's doing it with one hand tied behind her back. We've got an ageing demographic, strong headwinds, a fuckton of barriers and paperwork thanks to Trump's tariffs and Brexit, plus a really archaic tax system that no one has has the balls to tackle.

As I said...I don't envy her. But she's going to have to do something and she's got a large enough majority to do it.

DuncinToffee · 14/11/2025 09:09

Oh, now that's an interesting fact bombastix about stale hc buns

Like the title suggestion as well

It allows the Telegraph to sell the idea to it's flock that it somehow forced the change, so worth the subscription.

As mentioned elsewhere, Sainsburys did a nice salted caramel and chocolate hot cross bun confection.

Tesco we're still selling their version until recently. DS1 is partial to them.

I love cheese. It would be my desert island luxury.

I do not like hot cross buns. Or krentenbollen.

I like a baked Camembert. Delicious
