A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes it’s really freeing when you see the annoying stuff, knowing you don’t pay.

On that note just got a headline that Tim Davie is resigning!

Me too. Good timing!

I just tried to cancel online but no, I have to call. Twats. I'm off tomorrow, so they'll be getting a very curt call from me. If they try to lecture me, I'll be telling them to not waste their breath.

About damn time. all this nonsense has happened on his watch. He was probably waiting for his christmas bonus before going.🤣

Yes it's a wonderful feeling. Do you get lots of letters?

Yep me too, it has been 5 years though, so they keep sending me threatening letters. They really are slime.

The hard line on sex offenders with no early release seems to have turned into, let's let them all out by mistake

They make an assumption that we all follow like sheep
Generally they contact non users every 6months and we are obliged to re confirm non use every 6months
Or they keep on and on with nasty warning letters.
I’m not sure there’s any way to stop that because ‘computer says no’

also for @EasternStandard

I've tried writing, phoning and even got my MP involved! They told him it cannot be presumed that I won't need a TV licence in the future.

Exactly. I’ve had the same
6months down the line your address flashes up on some random computer and chugs out another letter
Here we go again
Same process year after year after year

Theres no off button 🤯

Oh, did you do that?

I sent them an email telling me they were causing me a lot of stress with the constant "have you changed your mind?" letters. I then didn't get one for about a year. I should've kept them all really. At some point, I'd quite like to go into their office and hand them over. Or we could all collect them and do some kind of ceremonial burning.

Threatening a charge for harassment might work given the nature of those threatening letters
So

What’s wrong with a
Dear Ms Prune
Let us know if you need a tv licence and we’ll send you a form
If you don’t well assume you don’t

signed etc

Now that wouldn’t bother me and its extra paper to start my fires 😁

upseedaisee · 09/11/2025 19:52

When my MP wrote to the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport his and my letters were sent to BBC. they sent a reply directly to him and he was not impressed by their tone. I think he made a complaint to the Secretary direct.

EmeraldRoulette · 09/11/2025 20:07

@upseedaisee oh that's good

@DrPrunesqualer any form of letter will annoy me. I filled in the declaration and that should be the end of it.

@SpaceRaccoon we were talking yesterday about crime and the poor attitude towards it that's been going on for years it seems

It looks like the man who did the train stabbing, not much effort was made to look for him after the barbers incident?

https://news.sky.com/story/barber-shop-questions-whether-train-stabbing-attack-could-have-been-prevented-if-concerns-were-taken-seriously-13465769

I've been off-line most of today - a conscious effort - but I've heard that there's another prisoner on the loose. I'm not sure if that's old news or today's news.

This one is disruptive rather than dangerous possibly? But why do these people get temporary release for weddings and stuff? It's mad.

Barber shop owner questions whether train stabbing attack could have been prevented if concerns 'were taken seriously'

Staff members came face-to-face the day before with the man believed to be responsible for a stabbing rampage on the LNER service from Doncaster to London King's Cross on Saturday 1 November, which saw 10 people taken to hospital for injuries.

The authorities are just completely reactive now. Always wait for the worst to happen rather than any steps to prevent it.

Tbf this particularly rot does go back.

What a waste of space. He spent about 2 days being a lawyer, at different companies.. one assumes people couldn’t wait to off load him.

An embarrassment.

Labour isn't working - Thread 17
Legolava · 09/11/2025 20:27

Can we start a thread called… “But Reform” please and divert the die hard Labour support to that so the grown ups can chat. It’s is genuinely infuriating. For all the spiel of the grown ups being in charge and all of that, the only response nowadays is, “But Reform.”

I’ve seen a few threads where die hard Labour supporters circle to try and undermine ops and throw them off threads. It’s either: they are racist, thick as insert offensive insult here. For having genuine concerns about racial tensions. They have things going on in their everyday lives such as job losses and companies collapsing. These ops are then run off threads and gas lit in real time about how they must have it wrong. They were lying.

There is no response. All people bat out is but Reform. Bot. It is still happening. Glad this thread is here. Genuinely, people seem more upset and living in fear of what this government has done and will do and all people say is, “But Reform.” No-one really cares about Reform right now apart from Labour who may lose a lot of their seats.

Why are Labour supporters not pushing for Labour to do better? Then Reform would not be a threat?

Zero.

a) I work in a heavily regulated sector, and b) I have never worked for an entity which had an accommodative compliance department, or c) a culture of freeloading.

Crucially, many of us do not all share the values of people who are constantly looking for freebies. I find it disgusting.

What pisses me off is that I’m not ALLOWED to spend more than a certain amount per person (can’t remember, it’s about £100) on my staff Christmas party, before it becomes taxable, for them. I am also not allowed to loan them more than £10k before they have to be taxed on it. But apparently if you are an MP, you can have your entire wardrobe, along with that of your wife, your glasses, your weekend activities fully funded, tax free!! WTF?
And another WTF to the fact that teachers are brushing teeth???? Parents expect teachers to do that? Or just don’t bother, so teachers do? It’s beyond awful.

Yeah. Toothbrushing is a new government initiative alongside breakfast clubs. The state will own you and your children as you can’t do it yourself.

I’m tired (even as an apparently non working person, it’s been a long week) but I really hoped you were being sarcastic, but then I googled! There is an actual government funded supervised tooth brushing programme???? I have zero words left…….

redange · 09/11/2025 21:10

The Labour Party and no doubt posters have always told people how bad the Tories and now Reform are will be to win Elections. They have never said how good they will be because they have no ideas never have, just win on the basis of how bad the others are.

This is why when questioned every single Labour Pundit/ poster (with the exception of Mathew Torbutt/Paul Embery) resort to calling people Racist and the usual pocket book of expressions from the manual. The traditional difference with political parties on the Right is they have historically looked to be 'positive' and highlight their policies opposed to just name calling.

redange · 09/11/2025 21:14

People on the right want to engage, where as people on the Left want to lecture !

EmeraldRoulette · 09/11/2025 21:18

I think Kemi is playing a long game, but to be honest, I think she needs to be ready for a sudden election.

If I write to her and say "hey, what's the plan?" do you think she'll reply?

@SpaceRaccoon sounds like they're not even reacting from what the poor barber said. Again, if we've hit the point where "man waving knife" is of no interest to the police, that's come about from decades of not having proper policy in place.

In totally random news, just to inject some positivity, I had to contact Spotify customer services and I've been putting it off for a week. I couldn't even really explain what was wrong because I didn't know. It was an online chat only, but they were really nice and they fixed it. Quickly. Full marks for customer services.

Rexinasaurus · 09/11/2025 22:06

What’s bothering me right now, at 22:03 on a Sunday evening is that I have to go to bed, and get up at 7am. School run then earn money being a non working person for a few hours. Then I need to do that again a few more times this week. Then again next week and so on. Does it ever stop, this non working?

redange · 09/11/2025 22:06

I can't wait to they introduce dressing yourself as a compulsory subject to GCSE and expecting a large take up for A Level! I can imagine a 16 year old proudly expecting a grade 9 .
