A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Those who have trumpeted Labour since the election, are going to have less and less to trumpet about, that’s clear.

The small hardcore nucleus that continue to do so, will simply turn their focus to running down Reform, rather than openly attempting to defend Labour - it has become that futile.

Edited

If that bold bit below sticks Labour can’t try to spin the ‘working people’ nonsense.

Labour MPs won’t be able to defend that for train drivers, teachers and police etc

They can try to blame Reeves but removing her won’t help. The markets will react and Starmer is culpable anyway.

Here we go. I said this on the last thread. Their definition of a working person excludes many teachers, nurses, drs and police. All a bit awkward for a Labour govt.

Parsley4321 · 09/11/2025 08:27

This shower of idiots are completely mad from a working person definition excluding now most people to people getting more in benefits take home not taxed than people that go to work that are not working people to our climate change zealots flying halfway around the world to a COP summit that destroyed rain forests to make a road FML

Bad faith posting. I can spot a teacher basher from a mile off. Believe it or not, some of us do care. Heck, I wouldn’t put up with the stuff I do for relatively poor pay if I didn’t. The state of the education system is down to government policy and lack of parenting nowadays. We have to brush teeth and provide breakfast as parents can’t be trusted to do it. Labour’s policies and plans worry me greatly as a teacher and a parent with EHCP battles. It usually tales a few posts but the mask slips in the end.

Then, clearly goading as they admitted it themselves. Out and out Labour supporter. Funnily enough, not long after we had a Labour supporting poster telling us about no go zones in chat. Reform live rent free in their heads like they are some stalking ex. That’s because there is nothing positive about Labour, no-one likes them and public opinion is on the floor. All they have is, but Reform, it’s desperate.

The bloody road and those tuxedos sum up this whole shower of shite.

@EasternStandard bloody road to nowhere the world is crazy no cognitive dissonance. Typical of the arrogance endemic in this government, when Reeves used the perceived market volatility as a reason for leaving her in post - irrespective of the outcome from the 26th.

I remain of the view that it would be better for many of us if the fiscal boil is lanced now - no more lies, no more gaslighting, no more incompetence, no more uncertainty.

Let’s have some external technocrats parachuted in to run things. Really, enough of this nonsense.

I totally agree. I brushed teeth, was asked to potty train numerous times. We offered breakfast club, which was taken up by parents who could see the payoff - get to school Half an hour earlier, and you will save yourself the cost of breakfast at home. Then, you had parents who the only difference it made was that stopped bothering to do breakfast, didn't bother to get the kids to school on time and they knew we had food to feed the kids anyway.

Rivalled · 09/11/2025 09:46

It’s not great that we have a Chancellor who knows she’s untouchable due to market reaction on our massive debt pile and openly talks about it.

strawberrybubblegum · 09/11/2025 09:47

Polaris81 · 09/11/2025 06:32

Here we go…

A rising number of the Chancellor’s backbenchers are criticising her, saying she is “running out of road” and that her Budget will “go down like a bucket of sick”.
Other Labour MPs have started to go on the record with their criticism, saying Ms Reeves will be “lucky to be here by Christmas”.

On Friday, the Chancellor told the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) that she planned to raise income tax by 2p, which will be offset by a 2p cut to NI, allowing her to argue that “working people” are being protected.

But it has since been reported that the NI cut would apply only to those earning less than £50,270 – meaning a significant tax rise for millions of middle earners.

This includes 283,000 NHS staff, 137,000 teachers as well as police officers, pharmacists and train drivers.

Is there a current mechanism to only cut NI for people with below a certain total salary? That sounds like a change to how tax works: where everyone pays the same amount on a particular tranche... it's just that contribution rate goes up on higher tranches.

I'd assumed that the mechanism would be that NI on the basic rate would go from 8% to 6% to offset basic rate income tax going from 20% to 22%, whereas the higher rate income tax would go from 40% to 42% without being offset by removing higher rate NI.

But that we would all benefit from the reduction in NI for the basic rate tranche of our income.

I'm sure Labour will find other ways to squeeze that extra £750 from the 'broad-shouldered' - so even though I'm sure they'd love to exempt only the already-low- contributing 'working people' from tax on the same tranche of income... it seems silly to make employers pay for changes to payroll systems.

On thevother hand, people on mumsnet have previously come up with all sorts of barmy suggestions like different tax rates on the same income for 'worthy' professions, but surely, surely Labour aren't daft enough to do something like this? It completely (further) de-legitimises tax.

Agree. They don’t know what’s happening or why it’s happening, it’s why they lash out as do their remaining loyal supporters.

Too painful

Morning all. Popping on to give you some “light relief” (well maybe, as dread to think how much this all cost).

Yesterday evening heard the police helicopters - not unusual where I live - however this event was. Someone had stolen a bulldozer and drove it for around 6 miles. It had a police escort. At one point a Royal Mail lorry tried to stop it by blocking the road but it pushed it out the way. Nothing shocks me anymore!

DM article about the Lammys' argument with a French taxi driver and its eventual outcome. Even taking a "six of half a dozen" approach to this account, it's hard not have sympathy with the taxi driver in the light of Lammy's recent performance in the HoC; not a nice man.

Motorists to be taxed for driving in France under Reeves’s pay-per-mile plan (msn.com)

This is completely mental ! What has driving in a Foreign country got to do with Reeves ! An example of 'Nut Jobs' looking for two pence pieces under the Settee. However, its more likely jealousy because someone can afford to drive a car across Europe !

This Government has got me wishing we had Darling as Chancellor and Jack Straw as Home Secretary . They were by comparison political colossus compared to Reeves and Mahmood.

I do not accept that she is as Teflon, as she would assert - it’s just part of her typical arrogance.

The alternative is a hamstrung replacement, who is unable to implement destructive policy, because the markets simply will not permit it.

Frankly, that works, until Labour are out.

The way I see it is - Reeves is doing everything she can to placate the public sector - if that means more smoke and mirrors and sleight of hand, so be it.

The problem for her is, the Gordian knot is getting tighter and tighter - she will please nobody, ultimately.

The culture secretary has apologised for breaking rules by failing to declare she had received donations from the man she picked to run England's new football regulator.

On Thursday, the commissioner for public appointments published a report, which found that David Kogan had made two separate donations of £1,450 to Lisa Nandy, when she was running to be Labour leader in 2020.

Speaking to the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Nandy said: "We didn't meet the highest standards - that is on me."

Does anyone else have anything like this on their industry? I've never worked anywhere that people would give contracts/donations/clothes/ glasses for jobs...
