I’m aghast that a 10% hike in the higher rate of tax could ever be considered “fair”. What do others think?

I think it's absolutely insane, and tips over from taxation to state-sponsered theft.

There are these absolutely mad posts out there, short version is that when someone is on benefits then they contribute more to society and economy than the taxpayers because someone on benefits spends their money more efficiently, and is, in fact doing the taxpayers a favour.

My partner is a paramedic who is just over by a couple of grand or so (because of unsociable hours payments for nights and weekends)

We have just been discussing this and have agreed he will cut his hours to bring him under the threshold. Working nights and weekend to have so much taken in tax, NI and pensions just isn't worth the impact on his health.

He really is. You just know he’d throw her under the bus for political gain if the markets would let him.

Exactly. There is something very wrong if paramedics are cutting their hours.

Luckily we can absorb the reduction in pay. But id prefer to do that as a result of cutting his hours, rather than being taxed to death while working nights!

Labour have lost 7% vote share since September with More in Common polling. I don't see it improving any time soon.
