A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I meant to put in a 😆 after that question about writing to Kemi! I don't think for a minute that they'll answer

They always answer. They just don’t say much. As is the politicians way.

Legolava · 09/11/2025 22:12

I can't wait to they introduce dressing yourself as a compulsory subject to GCSE and expecting a large take up for A Level! I can imagine a 16 year old proudly expecting a grade 9 .

Only if it’s joggers, a hoodie, trainers and an oversized sports mug. Otherwise they will follow their parent’s example and wear their SpongeBob pjs down to the local supermarkets. I am not even joking.

I've never written to the opposition before.

Usually the drill is that no one will reply if they are not your local MP or at least that that's what I understood. That said, I wrote to Charles Walker and Desmond Swayne during lockdown. I was particularly touched by Charles Walker's reply. But neither of them had to acknowledge it even.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 09/11/2025 22:23

On a non-partisan note, I thought Starmer and Badenoch were both well turned out and dignified at the Cenotaph this morning. No anoraky shite like Corbyn sank to.

I will say that to see a black woman as leader of the Tories gives me great joy and pride as being a Tory. It’s more the black than the woman: the Tories have had women leaders, obviously.

So, to abandon the non-partisan spirit, how shameful for Labour that it’s been white men all the way. And generally useless white men at that.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/11/2025 22:24

Middle aged white men failing upwards in the main!

redange · 09/11/2025 22:26

I was thinking rather differently for A Level . To get an A* the boys would have to wear Top Hat and Tails White Dinner Jacket White Tie walking with a black stick. The girls dressed in Ball Gowns. Afterwards perhaps a Degree in Debutante Studies.

Teachers must advise pupils not to consider A Level dressing up unless they have achieved a minimum grade 8 GCSE. The jump from wearing Tracksuit wear to formal wear is considerable !

Legolava · 09/11/2025 22:31

The left have always wanted to keep women down. Look at teaching, a unionised profession. Heavily dominated by females and always has been. Yet a significant proportion of people in leadership or with clout are erm…middle aged white men. ‘Twas ever thus.

redange · 09/11/2025 22:32

I think what is great about Kemi is that she is colour blind she does not see herself as Black because it is irrelevant . it is only the Labour Party and Lamy who try to make something of nothing for political capital.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/11/2025 22:37

Yes she gave a very sharp response to Lammy on that issue!

It is definitely noteworthy that the Tories have already had three women PMs and an Asian PM. Labour, not so much.

EmeraldRoulette · 09/11/2025 23:08

I'm the same as Kemi in that I don't want to make a deal of my colour. Some people absolutely hate that. They call me a coconut, I guess.

Similarly, I don't concern myself with the "all white man" thing.

I thought Rishi Sunak hit the nail on the head when he said he liked being the first prime minister to do Diwali on the step at number 10 - but he also liked that it's not a big deal. I know exactly what he meant.

Re toothbrushing - I have no idea how teachers stay in the profession now. And this kind of thing is going to get worse. But there are some left-wing parties who will clearly encourage everyone to see children as being the responsibility of the state - a good example of the sort of thing I worried about with the nanny state in Tony Blair's era - but I didn't think it would get this bad.

Just read that over 2000 people arrived here on small boats last Friday.

In WW2 thousands of men lost their lives to protect our country's borders. Now the government is doing absolutely nothing to protect our borders and are letting in thousands of potentially very dangerous people - putting the safety and lives of British people at risk. The more people who come, the higher the risk. The government's job is to protect its citizens and they aren't doing it. It infuriates and saddens me in equal measure. If I could leave the UK I would.

Not sure if it's been shared already.

The most utterly sensible piece I've heard on the economy from Arthur Laffer. Well worth a listen.

Covers the sensible points

  • we go to work, change jobs, look for promotion for the money we can after tax.
  • you can't spend yourself into being rich
  • taxes and the economy goes down by taxing top earners
  • you tax people to work and pay people to be sick will make people sicker

And go where? We are ranked 17th in Europe for asylum applications per capita.

Did you see that poor WW2 veteran crying about what he perceived the country had become?

Another day, another round of kites... higher 100k cliff edge, Reeves going after stocks and shares.

These people are either very wicked or very incompetent.

Rivalled · 10/11/2025 08:04

Contrast Laffer to this - but we know politicians aren’t listening don’t we?

These are the tax reforms Britain needs, but is Reeves listening?

So this is saying average woman gains £100k in earnings over lifetime of a degree, which costs approx £60k…truly dismal.

SpaceRaccoon · 10/11/2025 08:11

Interesting ideas in that article. I do disagree about equalling taxation on the self-employed because of the greater risks, self funded holidays, no employer pension contributions, fallow periods etc. I think that might hinder people being being entrepreneurial.

Parsley4321 · 10/11/2025 08:23

@Forgetmenot9 well done Mr Laffer please be our prime minister 🤩🍾

Frankenchino · 10/11/2025 08:24

@SpaceRaccoon

Well surely that depends on how you want to spin that poor guys opinion to suit your particular political agenda. I note that NF did something similar.
Perhaps he meant that the tension and hatred between groups in the UK is pretty nasty. I agree with that.
Such as people putting flags up on roundabouts and assuming on Twitter that reported incidents are always committed by a certain religion before they know the facts.

Rivalled · 10/11/2025 08:28

I wonder about doing those ‘sensible’ changes at this juncture when the income tax levels are so high. If they’d been done slowly in better times…we’re now in a hurry to smother our economy with tax.

Rivalled · 10/11/2025 08:29

But yes, I contracted for a long time, and when I went perm I was barely worse off given changes done to date…

There's little difference now if you're a sole trader, as I am.
