A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

You have to wonder.

What a hell hole. Those poor poor people trying to live a life. And then Hamas. And Starmer has enabled Hamas, if he’s done anything.

Oh, wait, I can hear a thousand placards being rewritten demanding that Palestinians be free from Hamas. Oh, no, my mistake - just the freezer defrosting.

I know the government is not doing too well, but of course it doesn't want a civil war. Why would it? Civil wars generally involve the incumbent government being usurped.

In the UK. Don't be daft. Ireland bombed us back in the day. We didn't blame the government.

Sorry, I genuinely don't understand your response. What am I being daft about? What has the IRA bombing the UK (Ireland didn't bomb us)got to do with potential civil war in the UK? Or were you talking about the potential for civil war somewhere else?
I am not being snarky I really don't get your point.

The IMF have downgraded our growth and we have the highest inflation in the G7. Apparently mortgage rates are begining to creep up again too.

(Remember what they said in February that the base rate would be down to 2.7% by the end of the year? 😂)

DancingFerret · 14/10/2025 14:39

Apparently, he's studying PPE: heaven help us if he and his ilk follow through and actually become politicians.

Just reading that. Slight upgrade for this year, but different story for 2026. We are an outlier on inflation.

Looks like we'll have the lowest growth per capita next year in the G7, along with the highest inflation. We're all about to get poorer folks.

No doubt Reeves will be celebrating the slight uptick for this year's growth and ignoring the rest. Let them eat cake.

Lowest growth per capita. How do they square that with ‘fastest growth in G7’ and ‘more money in your pockets’ pledges?

Can they see their issue yet

TheNuthatch · 14/10/2025 15:03

Ooh we have a new reaction - a bouquet. I do miss the laughing emoji.

That would be a big fat no.

Style it out with lies, deflection and gaslighting, as per.

We really do need a laughing emoji. It would make life a lot easier. Maybe we're not supposed to enjoy ourselves so much we need one.🙄

Yep, they need to swap out the bouquet for the laughing emoji; I'd get far more use out of that than lobbing flowers around.

Upstartled · 14/10/2025 15:09

I miss the laughing emoji too. Nice to appreciate someone's humour without disrupting the flow of conversation.

Apparently food inflation is now over 5% and it's that, alongside the price rises in hospitality, that is fuelling inflation.

I've honestly never understood there being such a need to push a university education,There are a lot of people, who have little to no interest in education but still feel they 'must' go to uni

I so agree. Neither of our children are interested in academic work and Dh and I begged them not to go and maybe go abroad and learn another language or some other skill.
However they wanted to do what their friends were doing and off they went. What a waste of time and money. ( Though they did enjoy themselves and make lots of friends).

It's because people were using it mockingly - ask me how I know (24 hour ban). In my defence, the poster I did that to was being bloody ridiculous. It went shortly thereafter so possibly partly my fault.
