Labour isn't working - Thread 12

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Is there any truth in the rumours that Israel have ceased intelligence sharing with the UK. That's very concerning if true.

Oof. Where have you seen that please? I haven't read anything as yet.

Yes, I heard that both Israel and the US are keeping the UK at arm’s length.

I had a quick look at the DM and didn’t see the picture of the PM dancing but my goodness, that clip of the US president not letting him speak was very prominent. Somehow I don’t think Starmer is going to put that picture in his downstairs loo.

I was at a Sixth form info evening last night for the Independent my DC already goes to. There were quite a few children there in the uniforms of other schools. Only 2 state schools in our extended area offer sixth form, so a move from state is not unusual. But the parents next to me (I was shamelessly eavesdropping) were there because our school offers the IB and of course they have been told their (out of area) state schools will no longer be. I can tell you, the controlled rage those parents were expressing was pretty clear. They would have to travel quite considerable distance to get to our school but ours was the nearest option.

It was being discussed back in the summer - a reaction to the UK Government's recognition of the state of Palestine. I can't recall reading anything about it recently.

Rivalled · 14/10/2025 10:51

In the new context of Palestinian statehood support, I can see why intelligence sharing with a country that is no longer committed to your borders
would be problematic.

Upstartled · 14/10/2025 10:59

Well, I would stop sharing intelligence with us when we have a government who dissolves cases to prosecute spies to curry favour with unfriendly countries.

What's this? Some sort of entrance exam? It's an open forum and people can contribute to any thread they choose. No-one needs permission.

But just to be clear, I have a divided opinion. I think some things Labour have done are good, some have been a complete disaster. I used to vote Tory but don't recognise the party today. What worries me is that I just can't see any good opposition or alternative.

Noted.

You're right I think. it was mooted that if the UK recognised Palestine Israel might stop sharing intelligence, but it never came to anything IIRC. Do you have a link please @justasking111 ?

It will be interesting to see how Starmer handles the disaffected Islamic vote now that their grievances are less valid….

Uk unemployment rises to 4.8% - the highest since May 2021.

Yeah, I saw that figure for August and apparently the HMRC reported another 10,000 jobs were lost in September.

No. It's pathetic. We don't seem to have a government that can establish a modicum of self preservation - giving away Chagos, letting spies off the hook, recognising a land run by and riddled by unhinged terrorists. We have no moral courage.

TheNuthatch · 14/10/2025 11:31

Thanks.
If Starmer and Reeves couldn't foresee the consequences of their policies before they implemented them, I have zero faith in their ability to correct them. The NI rise was a disaster for growth, and will likely remain so.

Right.

Also the hiring market is frozen, particularly for high end hires.

Thanks, Reeves.

Well we'll have to buckle in because once we get the incoming assent of the employment rights bill, with some immediate effects and then more again in April, they can pat themselves on the back again about how progressive they are while more and more people join the unemployment figures.

Honestly, the worse it gets the more I think their incompetence is weaponised. They're supposed to be educated...

I’m not convinced that the malevolent human bollard is that smart.

Vanilla Incompetence and spite are his stock-in-trades.

Unfortunately for many of us, there are still significant consequences, either way.

I think that's why they've been so slow to implement the bill. They know it will cause further damage.

He’s not. No one thinks the human bollard is smart. Not anymore, I did at the beginning think he must be. But well.. he isn’t.
