A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Almost 25,000 pupils have been forced out of private schools since Labour came into power, new figures show.

A survey of 1,150 private schools showed a decline of 16,696 pupils since last September – equivalent to 3.6pc – according to the Independent Schools Council (ISC).

The previous year’s poll saw a decline by 8,233 pupils after Sir Keir Starmer vowed to impose 20pc VAT on “day one” of a Labour Government.

Julie Robinson, chief executive of the ISC, told The Telegraph: “The decline in pupil numberssince the general election is now at least 25,000 – over eight times the fall the Government predicted by this point.

Thats only a 200 mn quid per annum cost to the state….

There's a vote on October 14th to reduce rice production

In which country is this vote?

It's in the EU. It's a WEF initiative. Been bubbling away quietly for years.

‘Someone posted the requirements of the new housing stuff on the petition thread, it already has digital ID written in as necessary’

? what do you mean @EasternStandard

I'm in the middle of trying to prove my visa status for a new job. You have to register with Gov Uk, download apps and log in all your details plus a photo of yourself. Apparently the hard copies of my actual visa in my actual passport are no longer enough.

Digital ID is already here.

Barbadossunset · 06/10/2025 14:57

Thats interesting. So European countries who grow it will suffer and meanwhile rice production will continue unabated in Asia.

Between 12% methane from rice and all the cows farting. It's a wonder we can still breathe.

@MantleStatue exactly what Ed Balls was saying - this is yet another pointless policy with motives other than what is claimed.

From today's Telegraph: Apparently the OBR is giving Reeves a headache. Quelle surprise.

yeah, We have passports. We have driving licences. We have NI cards and bank cards and blue badges.

This is pointless, expensive and someone is going to benefit financially. Who? And why? And the cost to the public... It's all so ridiculous.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/10/2025 16:34

Why would anyone want to reduce rice production?! Actually I know the answer to all of these things. It's just so depressing to see it in action. I do think Starmer will go at this at warp speed. I think the communist is on track to win the mayoralty of New York City as well. I haven't been to New York for several years. Something tells me I will not be going back. Sad as I spent so much time there in the heyday.

@justasking111 but where can your friend move to to escape the crazy?

More crazy today in the form of Tower Hamlets Council trying to get the Pink Ladies labelled a extreme far right group. My first thought was that I'm not too concerned....My second thought was that actually...This is the first step on the way to banning it. I live in Essex. So this feels personal. I know I ought to go out and join them, but I just cannot face protesting. To say nothing of the fact that I would lose friends, which is a big deal after I was isolated for a very long time after lockdown

I can never seem to meet any normal people. Most of the people I meet are on the left. Considering where I live, this makes absolutely zero sense. But I think people like me tend to just keep quiet.

Being based in Essex, and being based in an area where there was a lot of racism in the 70s, I am obviously aware of it and I know that some actual racists - as in, people who would like me removed from the country even though I was born here and never lived anywhere else - have tried to infiltrate these protests. But that is not a reason to label a whole group. In my local area, I am literally aware of about three people who are doing that. Not suggesting on the Oracle and I know everybody who lives here but I'm pretty sure it's not a widespread problem.

It feels like such a big scary mess.

Maybe I should have an allocated hour a day for looking at "news". I put that in inverted commas because I don't actually look at news websites very much but I heard about the pink ladies from my social media feed.

Starmer wants to be seen to act on illegal immigration?

Pointless though as it won’t change that.

Also control, he’s not a natural leader people loathe him generally.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/10/2025 16:56

@EasternStandard "Starmer wants to be seen to act on illegal immigration"

but he's literally not taking any steps to deal with it. No one believes that digital ID is anything to do with the illegal immigration. I mean, literally no one can believe that can they?

I think his plan is to actually keep as quiet as possible and just wait for people to sink into hopelessness.

Reading posts on here sadly many seem to believe it.

@EasternStandard literally just saw some after I typed that! On a thread about digital ID.

Listened to some interviews with Tory MPs and activists on R4. God it was refreshing to hear humans speaking, acknowledging that they fucked, apologising etc. Not trying to deny/gaslight etc. Sounding like actual humans instead of robots speaking in slogans and double speak.
Made me think that there might be some hope.......

I was sat agreeing with what they were proposing: cutting welfare, civil service etc to enable business rate cuts for shops/pubs etc. Those are the things which drive the economy! Not increasing NI FFS

The media still give a kicking, and the electorate might like these policies but not vote for them. It could change in a year or so as we feel the reality of Labour.

Yeh its kick a dead dog when its down. I maintain they need another election cycle out in the wilderness but they were coming out with common sense policies in the interviews I heard.

Good, that's good to hear.
I've felt like that too listening to some of the speeches and interviews. It's refreshing, and I like most of what I've heard.

Its also nice to have a conference where they are talking about the actual issues we face, and their plans to fix them, rather than just constantly banging on about Reform at every opportunity. It feels like Reform had 3 conferences this year. They had their own, the Lib Dem conf, then the Labour conf.
