The fact we have different opinions on it just shows that it's a tricky subject. I think the concerns on both sides are appropriate. I want the hate marches stopped now, but I also don't want our freedom to protest restricted, as @TheNuthatch fears.
There's a balance - much like the balance between freedom to express opinions vs harm caused to others with libel or hate speech.
Personally, I think these marches have shown that the balance is off kilter.
It feels like intent should be considered - and choosing a painful anniversary makes it so obvious that it's about hate, not protest - but I can see that having subjective criteria would make the right to protest very vulnerable to political interference, and we can all see how dangerous that is.
Perhaps the new legislation they're introducing to consider the cumulative impact of protests is the right direction. Let's see: I'll be glad if Labour have got something right!
But I hope those self-righteous marchers feel utterly ashamed of themselves when they grow up. Self-awareness is an on-going failing in liberal Lefties though, so they probably won't.
