A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thank you for sharing. They really are stunning. You might convert me to a cat person if you keep posting photos like that 😁. Is that Rodders at the back?

That's Ash (the cream one) and Griff; they're brothers and partners in crime. There's no room for anyone else if Rodders gets to that pouffe first.😙

On the subject of cats and Christmas, these two are the reason we no longer have a real tree; there's only so much mess the carpet will take.

Oh look at them, what a lovely pic

I agree. I don't like.the idea of banning or restricting protests, however repulsive I find them. Its a slippery slope.

I do think they should be rationed. Every bloody weekend Is ridiculous. Does no-one think of the businesses affected. Tourism. People trying to get to work and home.

Imagine your road and surrounding ones being closed off every weekend. The noise, the mess, vandalism.

I hear you, I really do. I find these recent protests truly sickening, and I can imagine how bad it must be for those trying to go about their lives, local businesses etc, not to mention the pressure on police forces. I have seen it first hand in my closest city.
I just don't trust governments (of any hue) to have that kind of power over us.

It's not power it's pragmatism. Letting these professional paid protesters foment trouble in cities every weekend makes us look like weak hand wringing ninnies. Which you can only imagine. You don't have to live it.

No disrespect but you're being manipulated if you think there's no choice but for people affected to endure these events week in week out.

strawberrybubblegum · 07/10/2025 05:36

Those protests have had too much negative impact on people's lives already. The last straw was having protests calling for 'globalise intifada' just hours after the terrorist murders at the synagogue. They know exactly what that means.

'Never again' means taking action to prevent anti-semitic mobs from taking over our cities week after week, causing fear and distress to British Jews.

strawberrybubblegum · 07/10/2025 05:51

And the protests planned for today FFS. Pointedly marching on the anniversary of that unimaginably horrific terrorist atrocity.

It's utterly sickening.

Starmer is asking people not to march - but that's just pointless words. Today's hate marches should absolutely not have been allowed.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer

Keir Starmer asks students not to join protests on 7 October

The prime minister says it is "un-British" to hold pro-Palestinian protests on the second anniversary of Hamas's attacks on Israel.

But that is all he can really do at present. It is not easy to ban a march right now. The reasons to do so are pretty narrow and rightly so. If it is anything like last year there will be marches all over the world.

It is in very poor taste to march today, though, and I would question the motives of those doing so.

Will go back to lurking now!

Isn't he? I hate the man. Here he is crowbarring through anti-democratic legislation without parliamentary oversight here and then retrospectively and autocratically changing our immigration laws over there, but now he's too limp wristed to deal with a bunch of hate marchers because it's against liberal freedoms? Pull the other one.

I'm not being manipulated by anyone, thank you. My opinions are my own.
I just don't want to see other protests being restricted whenever the government don't like what they are saying.

Yes, we've always managed to disagree on here without accusing one another of labouring under a false consciousness or being of such little substance that we have been manipulated. Can we just not do that please? It's not cricket.

The fact we have different opinions on it just shows that it's a tricky subject. I think the concerns on both sides are appropriate. I want the hate marches stopped now, but I also don't want our freedom to protest restricted, as @TheNuthatch fears.

There's a balance - much like the balance between freedom to express opinions vs harm caused to others with libel or hate speech.

Personally, I think these marches have shown that the balance is off kilter.

It feels like intent should be considered - and choosing a painful anniversary makes it so obvious that it's about hate, not protest - but I can see that having subjective criteria would make the right to protest very vulnerable to political interference, and we can all see how dangerous that is.

Perhaps the new legislation they're introducing to consider the cumulative impact of protests is the right direction. Let's see: I'll be glad if Labour have got something right!

But I hope those self-righteous marchers feel utterly ashamed of themselves when they grow up. Self-awareness is an on-going failing in liberal Lefties though, so they probably won't.

I agree and I understand why people say what they do on the protests. I really do.

Shameful, hateful, radicalised idiots. And there are plenty of them on this site too.

Pretty good picture of her face. The internet never forgets or disappears. May come back to haunt her later.
