Labour isn't working - Thread 11

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The media still give a kicking, and the electorate might like these policies but not vote for them. It could change in a year or so as we feel the reality of Labour.

The tories might get some decent headlines in tomorrow's papers 🤞
The electorate may be ready for them after a few more years of this chaos.

I've had a news cleanse today so haven't seen or heard anything, but I'm looking forward to catching up with a few speeches tomorrow. Especially if Reform haven't had any more free advertising.

Yes it’s a nice change isn’t it. More about policies than spiralling out sloganeering on Reform as Labour did.

@upseedaisee Glad you've enjoyed a 'cleanse'. Its so good to shut it all out sometimes.

It certainly is. I used to do it on occasion, but it's getting more and more frequent these days. My blood pressure takes a pasting when I read too much of Labour's shenanigans.

EasternStandard · 06/10/2025 19:49

Yep I’m the same. I mostly pick up on this thread and maybe one Times radio thing in the morning or R4, just.

I now sync Alexa to R6 3am music and ff through all news headlines. Really helps as I have the radio on all day.

It has been stressful since this lot came to power. That's why I like to have a laugh on the thread sometimes, to block it out. We'd all go insane otherwise 😂. We need to get back to doing more of that on here.

Absolutely. A giggle and keeping informed, you can't beat it.

On a totally different note, I chose the colour for my new apartment living room. Crown Soft Linen. Can't remember who suggested Crown Hare, but it's the same shade, just a bit lighter.😁

upseedaisee · 06/10/2025 20:06

Linen Blend even🤣

TheNuthatch · 06/10/2025 20:06

I just googled your paint colour, it's lovely. It looks quite warm and cheerful from the photos. I hope you like it when it's on the walls.

I'm currently trying to work out how best to tell DH that I want to go back to a real Xmas tree this year. (After spending £550 on our first ever artificial one last xmas). 😬 I hated it as soon as I'd decorated it.

I was sat agreeing with what they were proposing: cutting welfare, civil service etc to enable business rate cuts for shops/pubs etc. Those are the things which drive the economy! Not increasing NI FFS

The thing that annoys me about the tories is why didn't they do this when they were in power? The problem they have is that no one believes them anymore. Margaret Thatcher was the last tory prime minister who had conviction whatever people may have thought about her. She got shit done.

With himself, we have an artificial tree. I have to put it up a few days prior to decorating it. He is convinced it's a seasonal climbing frame that is erected just for him. He gets bored with it after a few days, then we have the joy of picking up the baubles he's been playing with overnight. I used to love a good christmas tree.... now, not so much🤣🤣

Catatemyhomework · 06/10/2025 20:25

My dogs are great with our trees, thank goodness. One of them ate a few baubles though as a puppy. He had glittery poo 🤣

Funny you mention that. The litter tray is a rather interesting experience at christmas.🤣🤣🤣
My son says apparently you can polish a turd!

We've got 3.5 years of Labour destroying everything they touch, whilst having an enormous bunfight with batshit Reform. The Lib Dems are nowhere, Jezza seems to be failing to launch, and the Greens have just elected hypno-tits to be their leader.
The tories may seem much more plausible by the next election.

I really really hope you're right. I so want this to be the case. Believe me. We need competence right now.
I kind of feel that if the IMF come in, it should automatically trigger a GE. I know it doesn't work like that but if it happens at the government's hands, can they be trusted to make the right decisions. How does it work? Will they be told what to cut, what taxes to increase. How do we know they won't make that worse too. I am actually quite frightened for the future. Never felt like this really my whole adult life.

We definitely need competence rn. It should be a given with any government, but that's clearly not the case.
It is frightening, I'm genuinely worried about where we will be financially this time next year if things don't improve. Its bloody stressful, hence why Upsee and I are giggling about glittery poo instead.

Yes. The problem we see all over, and especially with our current gvt is that despite the fact it’s one of the most powerful jobs one could have, no required qualifications or experience is defined, or deemed necessary.

We’re just left subject to the whims of these inexperienced dim-witted morons.

We don’t accept pilots / doctors / engineers / lawyers etc without qualifications. It is so easy to become a politician. Yet they wreak so much havoc.
