Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics, cats, dogs and much more

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

Well I can imagine there was a lot of fury that Farage has downgraded his tax cuts pledges to 'aspirational'.
Having trailed them so heavily previously the reversal was oddly muted.

Almost as if they hope nobody noticed.

They will concentrate on cutting civil service (that is going so well on Council level......) and scrapping Net Zero instead.

We are being told that policies don't matter at this point, so false promises are acceptable I guess

As someone who works in a Government arm's-length body (ALB) the current cuts are already hurting (and worrying). Hopefully I'll be retired by the next election, but I'd like to be able to work until that point.

No mention of it on Farage's Twitter feed. He's too busy being outraged about vegan tampons in men's loos.

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2025 09:05

Never mind taxes or Russian/US interference, men are being exposed to woke vegan tampons, shock, horror

Caught out in another lie

https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-politics/2025/10/nigel-farage-wasnt-telling-the-truth-on-laura-kuenssberg

When Nigel Farage told Laura Kuenssberg that Warwickshire County Council had blocked Reform’s inquiries into their financial accounts, it seemed like a classic story of the deep state obstructing democratically elected politicians from doing their duty.

There’s only one problem: Reform never made any inquiries.

Scrapping Net Zero doesnt raise anything like what Farage pretends it will.

The bulk of it is paid for by external investment. (And that was the point of Net Zero as I remember it - attract investment and therefore jobs)

So ditching it doesnt save the Government much at all.

But then if you are sponsored by fossil fuel companies its hardly surprising that you'd campaign against it.

I asumme the Reform voters are also in favour of fracking.

Cant help himself can he.

Williamson is giving evidence at the Covid Inquiry today

He was another one that was sacked (for leaking information) and then re-emerged under Johnson.
Patel and Williamson must have burned through several of their nine lives.

Is that because of the sheep?😁

I might be old, but I smell of Chanel. My one little luxury. I am a Chanel socialist.

Oh which one? I’m more of a Frederic Malle girl, myself. I literally smell of roses.

placemats · 14/10/2025 11:45

Channel no5 for me. Birthday treat (next month) 😀 I'll be 65.

Coco Mademoiselle. I also wear No.5 sometimes, placemats.

BIossomtoes · 14/10/2025 11:58

No 5 smells like cats’ piss on me as I discovered when my bloke bought it for me when we first met. He couldn’t believe what my skin did to it!

BIWI · 14/10/2025 11:59

I’m not so keen on Chanel No. 5, but my daily perfume is Coco Mademoiselle. I sometimes wear Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin but find I can only wear that in the summer, for some reason.

I’m 66, so definitely old and smelly (although hopefully smelling nice rather than horrible).

countrygirl99 · 14/10/2025 12:12

I'm a pensioner and after I've mucked out the horse I'm definitely smelly. But, unlike certain attitudes, a quick shower will sort the issue.

BestIsWest · 14/10/2025 12:33

Coco wearer here too. But am wearing L’Occitane Verbena today as the sun is out.

placemats · 14/10/2025 12:48

New laptop and Windows 11 is giving me heartache. Forced acceptance to Microsoft accounts. Awful - thankfully just a cheap one - Lenovo.

placemats · 14/10/2025 12:49

We managed to bypass the forced acceptance.

PickAChew · 14/10/2025 13:02

It's onedrive that I hate.

Evenstar · 14/10/2025 13:16

@BestIsWest I love that one too, but I do wear it all year round and love lemony soap and bubble bath too. I can’t wear heavy perfume as I am asthmatic and it makes me wheeze sometimes even if other people are wearing it. Christian Dior Poison used to be terrible for that when it was very fashionable.

cardibach · 14/10/2025 13:21

I’m hopeless at remembering perfume. I do like Issey Miyake and I’m partial to some of the Saltworks ones - Lady Marmalade is good. Mostly I don’t wear any though…
