A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

And this good news, from the FWR board

https://archive.ph/cvKFD

Don’t know if anyone saw this yesterday but Graham Linehan was arrested at Heathrow yesterday, for Tweets. For Tweets. 5 police. Ridiculous. Well see telegraph article today (archive link above). Starmer finally realising people won’t accept his BS gender woo BS.

And a new member of his mini shake up at No.10 is an ex board member of Sex Matters. Terrific!

The DfE plans to cut £74 million from its flagship teacher training programme and will also cut its recruitment target by 750.

I seem to remember we were told the education tax would drive up recruitment for 6500 extra teachers??

Can’t see that on the guardian from page.

Yes. Arrested by armed officer for a tweet 🙄. Streeting this morning said he would rather see officers policing our streets, not tweets. Tell that to Lucy C.
They say one thing, do another.

Exactly. Starmer is panicking, their disapproval rating has gone up again. 70% v 11% approve.

Arrearing50 · 03/09/2025 10:01

Yes 26 Nov - they’re clearly leaving it as late as possible hoping the gilts settle lower. Well, it’ll be a depressing start to Christmas!

Julen7 · 03/09/2025 10:16

Why so late? All these rumours and uncertainty surely isn’t healthy for an already ailing economy.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 03/09/2025 10:17

Oh no, the poor retail sector, two days before black Friday and they have these clowns dropping the misery budget.

You've just made a good point on another thread. The Timms review is due to be published late Autumn. Perhaps they are waiting for that to give them leverage over Labour MPs. Eg, accept cuts or face the wrath of an even worse budget?

I thought the Timms review was 2026?

When I googled earlier I couldn’t even see a proposed date for publication, only that it would start in Autumn 2025. Very confusing as I thought it was well under way.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 03/09/2025 10:27

Honestly, it's only recently I read it was autumn 2026 - like you, until then, I thought it was sooner. Maybe there's an interim report?

TheNuthatch · 03/09/2025 10:28

I'll get my coat 🤣🤣

OP posts:
ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 03/09/2025 10:40

I don't think they'll be waiting for it in any case. The late budget might be so they can soften up the backbenchers for the inevitable.

Hollyohara · 03/09/2025 10:41

It’s a late budget because they have no idea what they’re doing.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 03/09/2025 10:44

Oh God, I hope you are wrong @Hollyohara. We can't freefall for years.

Arrearing50 · 03/09/2025 10:45

Yes that’s what I think @Hollyohara they’re just gambling on something turning up, a 0.1 percent increase in growth, a tariff solution etc.

I think so too

TheNuthatch · 03/09/2025 10:55

Whatever the reason, it's awful timing for retail, family budgets etc.
We may even be in a worse state by them after all the kite flying they like to do.
I can remember when budgets were a bit of a non-event. Not anymore.

Right? A nation hits the shops in earnest for family gifts with tax hikes and budget cuts ringing in their ears and all retailers can do is try to drown it out with a bit of Bublé - It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas😬

Breaking news on Angela Rayner everybody. Has had to refer herself to ethics watchdog as she has admitted not paying enough stamp duty.

Just seen that. Apparently she was a wee bit tearfull. 😢 🙄 ...But she looked so chipper in her Jolly Green Trousers and Elton John specs?

Angela Rayner admits she should have paid more stamp duty on flat purchase - and considered resigning

The deputy prime minister has blamed incorrect tax advice on her "error" and said she will pay what is due.
