Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

In other words you've never met her but you enjoy a bit of anti semitism.

You don't no me or who I know and that is not up for discussion. My views have been balanced on this thread and I've not lowered myself to name calling. I've had to deal with that recently with my own 10 year old son. He was called a 'monkey' by his so called friend. Name calling is a way to hurt and offend others.

Your own twisted interpretation doesn’t mean she should apologise.

Can you explain what exactly is twisted about my interpretation?

Gymnopedie · 08/06/2025 14:04

nomas · 08/06/2025 13:45

Except she didn’t. See with the twisted interpretation?

She referred to the events of the 7th October and decsribed them as 'doing a bad thing' in the same voice a six year old would use running to tell mummy that little brother had just picked all the daffodils.

Hideous, horrifying, inhumane, appalling - none of those words are strong enough to describe what the Israeli government is doing. But that doesn't mean that suggesting what Hamas did is no more than being a bit naughty is acceptable either. And that's what she did - whether she meant it or not. She missed the mark very very badly with that video and her apology doesn't make that go away because it is disingenuous. Her disgust at Hamas didn't come across? Yes, it seemed one sided? No it very much didn't and yes it very much did (because it was) and if she's only thinking about that now because of the backlash I don't put much value on her non apology.

Dawn French is a normal human being like the rest of us. Like many of us we tend to go about things without thinking it through properly and the message gets lost. What was the message that she was trying to say. What is happening now is not good. War is horrible.

The silly voice for the “bad thing” Hamas did was not a mistake most normal people would normally make ( I hope)

A lot of normal people would believe it or not.

Yes, racism is hurtful. On that we can both agree.

You could be right.
But it is shameful to mock the victims of October 7th .

Foxhasbigsocks · 08/06/2025 14:56

I really think anyone minimising the October massacre should take a look at the UK parliamentary report.

I don’t think anyone reading about how young people who were tripping at a music festival were mercilessly shot point blank and how elderly people on a nature walk were shot for nothing can think this is any different to 9/11.

smallglassbottle · 08/06/2025 19:22

What sort of vengeance would everyone like for Dawn French then? Public flogging? Destitution?

And it's that sort of hyperbole that means it's almost impossible to have a reasoned debate around the issue.

callmej · 07/06/2025 10:18

Absolutely revolting, though probably not surprising, most of these awful 'luvvies' are the same. Happy enough for them to out themselves, hopefully she'll go the way of Linekar. I will certainly not be impressed if M&S, or anyone else, continues working with her. Hideous racist.

I can't see her defending it though? Though the fact it's still up certainly suggests she's standing by it. Is very apt that it appears right below the header "Dawn French is a Huge Twat".

Go the way of Lineker, as in signing a very lucrative new World Cup deal while continuing to run his popular and even more lucrative podcast company and various other successful ventures?

She wasn't mocking the victims. She was mocking the people who say that that excuses any and every atrocity committed in Gaza.

Gymnopedie · 08/06/2025 19:40

So people just want to endlessly villify her, refuse to accept her apology, call her names and browbeat anyone who won't accept your narrative?

Okay, so what's the end goal? Is it just a case of yelling over other voices or what?

What does a win look like for you?

smallglassbottle · 08/06/2025 19:58

I think quite a bit is lost in translation here isn't it? Interesting. The so called 'hyperbole' was tongue in cheek. Are people here at all familiar with this? You can get AI to help you if you're struggling.

Jujujudo · 08/06/2025 20:08

smallglassbottle · 08/06/2025 11:14

Do you know what's the most chilling thing? This may one day be us on the receiving end, like the people of Gaza, and no one will help us. They'll just stand by and watch. If it can happen to one group of people, it can happen to anyone. We see this happen in countries in Africa as well, but one day it'll be the western countries whilst our impotent and hand wringing politicians stand by and do nothing.

You mean like the Holocaust? That’s exactly what you’re describing. It happened under the noses of European civilians. Not a blockade live streamed on twitter, but an unprovoked mass slaughter of six million people. The world did nothing. That’s why Israel now exists. And always will. I hope that it will exist alongside a democratic and thriving Palestinian State too. If that’s what Hamas wants. Which it isn’t.

smallglassbottle · 08/06/2025 20:15

No actually, I was referring to Western Europe's future.

PinkMagpie · 08/06/2025 20:17

I’ve just watched the video again and my god, what did Dawn French think she was doing putting that out. I would have thought she would have more sense

What would have happened if it had been the other way around and she had been mocking Muslims? Blacks? Trans?

That's a strange thing to say. Why would you say that? I think you're getting confused.

What do you think would happen? Probably the same as happened to Amy Schumer, nothing, she is still working and hasn't been 'cancelled'.

I have no idea as to what is the usual thing to do in these circumstances, not being the sort of person to frequent the court of public opinion. This is why I'm asking. I'm curious.

Yeah those media controlling Jews eh! Cancelling everyone left right and centre. Next they’ll be trying to control the banks!
