Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

It is truly vile and unfortunately represents the majority of media right now. It is cool to be antisemitic and we are seeing influencers gaining popularity for saying things like this.

It wouldn't be socially acceptable (or celebrated) to talk about any other group of people like this and it's a lot of "left wing" people who consider themselves advocates who are doing it.
People who I would typically align with.

The world has been waiting for a chance to be open about their hatred of Jewish people again and here it is. We are heading in a very scary direction when the atrocities of Oct 7th are excused and minimised.

You can care about the Palestinian people AND what happened on Oct 7th, but if you openly talk about having any compassion for the Oct 7th victims then people react in the most outrageous way. I've seen it online and in person.

I know people who have had best friends stop talking to them and colleagues shun them for simply saying "I care about the innocent civilians on both sides".

I'm not on any SM apart from Mumsnet; it is possible to access this, to see it? Or has it been taken down?

It’s completely appalling.

Thank you, @Soontobe60 .

Oh dear....

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 07/06/2025 08:27

I find it very surprising - I thought she was generally a good egg - sad times. My opinion of her has def changed as I thought she was working for all sorts of charities over the years - like her ex - Lenny Henry

Just checked - apparently involved with

Cancer Research UK
Comic Relief
Elton John AIDS Foundation
Willow Foundation

I dare her to use the same nauseating baby voice to talk about the experience of Palestinians in Gaza

It’s still up - screen recorded it for you but apparently can’t upload videos! Her whole delivery is incredibly irritating let alone the content.

inamarina · 07/06/2025 08:31

I’ve seen in. I could only watch it once tbh, I found it absolutely disgusting.

Ahh, thank you, @TheyreLikeUsButRichAndThin , I have seen it now.

I'm very confused, I thought she was generally decent, always quite liked her, but this is viscerally distasteful.

OldWomanInACardigan · 07/06/2025 08:35

I couldn't tell what she was talking about - I was distracted by her strange face (fat jabs??)

NoisyLemonDog · 07/06/2025 08:38

It took me a second to realise what she was talking about, the tone was so deeply inappropriate. I'm actually shocked.

SunnyBloom · 07/06/2025 08:15

The whole point is words matter so much. It is not OK to make it sound like Oct 7th was just 'a bad thing'. It was extreme violence by hamas. It was a targeted mass killing and abduction of Jews, including babies and elderly, by a hamas a terrorist group.

True, and is she didn’t even just say it was a “bad” thing.
She did it in that horrible whining, mocking voice.
Talk about dehumanisation.

RiffRaffBananas · 07/06/2025 08:42

Dawn French usually appears in the threads about celebs that Mumsnetters have met, and not in a good way.

HermioneWeasley · 07/06/2025 08:46

It’s absolutely appalling. What happened in October 7th was the worst killing of Jews in a day since the holocaust. And the violence and terror were utterly depraved. To talk about it like that….I’m speechless

LadyKenya · 07/06/2025 08:51

I have not seen it yet. But this sounds surprising coming from her, imo. But nobody really knows how other people feel, until they reveal their thoughts.

sciaticafanatica · 07/06/2025 08:57

She’s a c**t!

Mymanyellow · 07/06/2025 08:57

I don’t why she would think anyone cares what she has to say. An actress and comedian what’s her expertise on this.

JasmineAllen · 07/06/2025 08:57

I've just watched it. WTF is she thinking both for what she says in the video and actually making a weird little video in the first place. I've never understood why some celebrities publicly comment on politics like they are some kind of authority.

I thought she was a sensible, intelligent woman, probably not after seeing this video.

It's an awful video. Shockingly dismissive of what was a depraved and brutal attack. I can't believe she thought that was acceptable.

I also think that minimising the slaughter, rape and starvation of tens of thousands of innocent people, including babies and children, as "the reaction to the terror attack in Israel" is shockingly dismissive of depravity and brutality.

sandgreen · 07/06/2025 09:00

I was looking for a thread about this last night as I couldn’t quite believe it. The babbling, doddery, nonsense words monologue style has been her schtick on social media for those who don’t follow. It’s chilling to see something so daft reveal something so dark.

CookiesAreForSharing · 07/06/2025 09:01

Just two posts prior to that awful one, on X, she posted about losing Alan Yentob. She seems unhinged.

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 07/06/2025 09:03

Shocking - is she still advertising M+S etc? I think they should all be boycotted because of her (although I do like M and S food!)

2021x · 07/06/2025 09:05

It is possible to understand what happened to the Israelis on Oct 7 was terrorism and what is happening to the Palestinians now is genocide.

On both sides it is the people who are defenceless on both sides that are suffering the most. Why are these celebrities not calling for a ceasefire, rather than just trying to get more attention and engagement on their profiles?

I quite honestly just don't understand the politics of it all - a few very intelligent people have tried but I just don't get it. What I do get is 10's of thousands of innocent people being killed and living in horrendous conditions and then the like of DF essentially taking the piss out of them all.

Zone2NorthLondon · 07/06/2025 09:07

Wholeheartedly agree
The legacy of Corbyn et al was to sanitise and legitimise antisemitism by using faux humanitarian sentiments to do so. There has been a palpable increase in antisemitism , just casually introduced in SM, conversation as if it’s a legitimate observation
