Heat haters unite! (Heat lovers bugger off)

It’s coming up to summer and I already hate the weather. It’s hot, muggy and just ugh.

I hate summer. It’s much easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off. You can always put more clothes on, but you can’t take more clothes off.

You struggle to sleep cos it’s so hot, and then you’re even more irritable because now not only are you hot and bothered, but you’re tired too.

No I don’t have air con cos I can’t bloody afford it. I have a plug in fan, than yeah works ok in the day but I don’t have it on overnight cos the breeze keeps me awake too.

I got an air con unit for £130, I'm too fat for this nonsense anymore and a fan was just like having a hairdryer blowing on me. Useless.

AutismMum2021 · 01/06/2025 16:13

I keep a spray bottle of water in my fridge and mist myself every so often, it's wonderful, especially if you sit in front of a fan straight after

Can't wait for summer to be over

I’ve just have a Google and some really aren’t too badly priced….might have to have a talk with dh and see if I can’t sweet talk him. I really don’t like the heat, and apparently people on anti depressants suffer more in the heat due to lowering your tolerance

Heat Wave Summer GIF

I didnt want to start this thread as I think that people are sick of me starting winter appreciation threads

But I will join yours and complain!

Its too hot! At night its hot! During the day its also hot!

Its just turned June, I'm already suffering greatly, and we're not even in proper summer.!

THREE MONTHS 'TIL SEPTEMBER

Merluzzo · 01/06/2025 16:45

I’ve found my people. From around June I count the days until September and dread a heatwave like the 40C nightmare a few years ago.

AnnaBalfour · 01/06/2025 16:46

I don’t find it too bad now but have two Dyson cooler fans in my JL basket ready to purchase, don’t care how much I just can’t face crappy fans for another year.

Linen bedding as well as Linen, cotton and seersucker very lightweight clothing at the ready.

I absolutely abhor UK city heat. Don’t mind the heat abroad too much.

mondaytosunday · 01/06/2025 16:51

I’m with you. The heat - anything above 24 - just saps my energy. My house is cool though my DD up in the loft suffers as she has skylights and even with the shades it gets hot up there.

CurbsideProphet · 01/06/2025 16:51

I still shudder to remember being pregnant 2022 and the 2 weeks of 38 degree heat 🥵 my feet and fingers have never quite been the same.

It's so clammy and humid, even here in NW England. I hate it!

MarxistMags · 01/06/2025 16:55

I refuse to bugger off, I live in Scotland so we don't get enough heat !

JDM625 · 01/06/2025 16:57

I grew up abroad where its drummed into you to stay in the shade/indoors in the middle of the day, use sunscreen, a hat etc. It always amazes me that so many British go abroad and lie on a sun bed all day. I could think of nothing worse.

I'm now peri and find the heat is affecting me much more. I posted recently about all summer clothes being made of polyester! Yuck! If I wanted to sweat even more, I'd sit in a sauna!

We've recently moved and have bifolds we can open. Our previous property was a London flat and it was a tinder box. We did have a portable air con there which we used more than heating! It was huge, heavy and noisy though and looked like a dalek.

InMyOpenOnion · 01/06/2025 16:58

If you really struggle in the heat, investing in an A/C unit is a game changer. It will last for many years and is so worth it, for your health.

You could try FB marketplace too.

I just bought a pillow cool pad from Amazon..I'm sure they were recommended here a couple of years ago.

Ilovemyshed · 01/06/2025 16:59

I absolutely hate it. Thankfully we have an extremely well insulated house and lots of ventilation so its possible to find a cool spot even when it is unbearable.

flapjackfairy · 01/06/2025 17:03

install a ceiling fan. They make all the difference ime.
I am also a winter lover. But just think.only.3 weeks until the longest day and then the nights start drawing in again. I also count the weeks until Sept when the build up.to.christmas begins for me. Can't wait !

Goldenphoenix · 01/06/2025 17:05

I have found my people. Heat makes me panicky and anxious. I too absolutely dread heatwaves. We had air con installed when we did up our house, it's only in one room but is absolutely blissful and dog also loves it! We have ceiling fans in all our bedrooms and that makes it much nicer at nighttime. Roll on Autumn.

Sallycinnamum · 01/06/2025 17:05

Our bedroom is in the loft and is hotter than the sun in the summer!

I bought a tower fan/cooling unit for £70 from b&q yesterday and it was bliss last night. Not as powerful as AC but was better than a traditional fan.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/06/2025 17:13

I remember your pain, to not ever have a single moment's respite unless I was actually under the shower at the time. I did everything I could to counteract it, lived in darkness when not at work, fans, cold packs under my pillowcase, ice packs underneath the pillow, tried sleeping under a wet sheet, but it just didn't work. And then that summer happened.

I worked my backside off (starting before 7am or staying to beyond 9pm to reduce the travelling in the hottest parts of the day) to get the money together for a portable aircon unit, paid for it through split payments and it was worth every single penny, as even though I still have to get through work, there is always a refuge.

Merluzzo · 01/06/2025 17:15

Could anybody recommend an AC unit please? I’ve thought about getting one for a while but I think this year I might take the plunge.

Soubriquet · 01/06/2025 17:48

I’ve got my eye on this one

Doesn’t require a pipe for the window which is what caught my eye. Can add water to make it better but will work ok with out it and is supposed to be quiet

We haven't got space for an AC unit (very small house) but are considering a ceiling fan. Can anyone recommend one of those that has a decent light and a remote control (it's for the bedroom and we need a good ceiling light for tidying, ironing etc esp. in winter).

Vates · 01/06/2025 18:54

I hate Summer too! Heat waves make me physically ill and I dread them. I am sat in front of the fan now. I cannot stand hot weather and there is nothing nice about it for me.

intrepidpanda · 01/06/2025 19:09

I am in a small office and 1 woman is still putting on the heater when she comes in in the morning. I have 2 fans and a window and keep sticking on the air-conditioning when she leaves the room.
