Heat haters unite! (Heat lovers bugger off)

It’s coming up to summer and I already hate the weather. It’s hot, muggy and just ugh.

I hate summer. It’s much easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off. You can always put more clothes on, but you can’t take more clothes off.

You struggle to sleep cos it’s so hot, and then you’re even more irritable because now not only are you hot and bothered, but you’re tired too.

No I don’t have air con cos I can’t bloody afford it. I have a plug in fan, than yeah works ok in the day but I don’t have it on overnight cos the breeze keeps me awake too.

My housing officer came for a visit last August. Her and her assistant were sweating like fuck in here and i refused to wear more than a thin pyjama top and a pair of knickers.

Are you serious right now?!

I guess I’m also lucky to actually have a home and not live in a mud hud in Africa where it’s even hotter

Working tonight in a 50°c building. I'm going to melt.

Arran2024 · 16/06/2025 16:10

Hate it. Actually I've realised it's the sun rather than the heat for me. I'm Scottish, but most other Scottish people I know adore the heat, love going abroad. Not me. I like Wales. 2 weeks booked for this summer. In the meantime I am in hiding in the house with all the curtains and blinds closed.

MandarinCat · 16/06/2025 16:21

I prefer winter as I'm much less aware of neighbours. I don't have annoying or noisy neighbours. They are fine, but living in a row of terraces, I love the privacy of closing curtains in winter

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/06/2025 16:49

Finding the heat unbearable at night. Thought it was just me. Glad to find this thread

I still draw my curtains and have blackout blinds. I am all cosied up by 7.30 and I ignore the fact that it is still daylight outside. It helps get me through until the dark nights again.

I refuse to bugger off, I live in Scotland so we don't get enough heat !

I won’t bugger off either! I work outside and the Winter is brutal. Bring on the heat!

socks1107 · 16/06/2025 17:34

I hate it too, it’s got worse as I’ve got older. This year I’ve lost a good chunk of weight so am hoping that’ll make a difference?! Who knows. London is warm today, the tube is nasty, my mainline train doesn’t have any aircon ans the hospital I work in is 16 floors up with glass windows. The whole day has been over stimulating and too hot for me already.
September’s often warm so I countdown to October now

I have one of those cooling sheets and it does help

Soubriquet · 17/06/2025 09:22

Ugh. Just after 9am and it’s already hot. I couldn’t sleep last night because it was so hot….

plus ds has his sports day today!! Why do they do sports day during the hottest month?!!

Luckily I have a parasol I can use and I will be using it today. I hate not having some shade to sit in

I returned from Iceland yesterday where it didn't get above 12 degrees. I want to go back!

flapjackfairy · 17/06/2025 09:43

to anyone struggling at night 2 words....ceiling fan . Absolute game changer.

MoonlightMemories · 17/06/2025 09:51

I'm really not enjoying this hot weather at all...it's so humid and sticky, opening the windows at night but it's not making a great deal of difference at these temperatures...woke up at 4am for the loo this morning, then struggled to get back to sleep due to how light it already was plus the mugginess...just couldn't seem to get comfortable. And it's due to reach around about 30 C at the weekend, which I'm really not looking forward to! 😥

I don't tolerate the heat very well so I'm expecting I'll probably faint at some point at work from a combination of that and lack of sleep due to the weather, so I've got that to look forward to, too.

If I had some, I would probably be doing a Martin right now where he says he's scorching and then puts a fillet of frozen cod on his chest 😂. I must put some water to make ice cubes in the freezer though!

I also refuse to bugger off! It's winter here and I'm longing for summer already. However what is driving me mad is being outside, appropriately dressed for the weather, and then I go into a building which is heated to a ridiculous level and I end up having to get out before I actually do what I went in there for before I melt into a puddle on the floor. Summer is so much easier!

The trouble is for us is that almost every day, inside and out is like the day you walk into that ridiculous building. Except we have no escape from it because it's inside and out.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I have one over my bed. HEAVEN.

FruityCider · 17/06/2025 12:22

Got my heat rash all over my face. Got my heat bumps on my forehead. Back of neck burnt to fuck after an hour in the sun. (I swear I used a tonne of suncream!) Bug bites everywhere and headache starting because there isn't enough water in the world. BLEH. I concur.

Judiezones · 17/06/2025 12:22

I'm fairly slim and quite old so you'd think I'd welcome warm weather. I hate hot weather! June and July are the worst, the humidity is horrible. I don't really sweat but I feel like I'm burning and I can't relax. Heat plays havoc with my skin (rosacea) so I look like a beetroot. I'm looking forward to September and cooler weather.

Pricelessadvice · 17/06/2025 12:23

I really haven’t found it that hot yet? I cope ok around the 20-23C and we’ve not had many days hotter than that have we? Maybe a few weeks ago it went up to 27C?

FruityCider · 17/06/2025 12:24

And got a picnic with friends on Friday which is supposed to be a scorcher. Have to argue with them every single time to go somewhere near trees so I can sit in the shade. HOW do people just sit in the middle of the field for hours?!

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/06/2025 12:39

I’d burn to a crisp in the middle of a field for hours. Even with a shed load of suncream on.
