Morning all! I hope everyone is feeling better. I vividly remember having a house full of kids @Aria999 It was often chaotic but did save my sanity. I liked it best when my friends came round with similarly aged children and we could put the world to rights while they played. It was easier then, with most of us working only part time. Everything is so much harder now for parents I think.
Your situation sounds very complex @petalpower I'm sorry it's so difficult 💐

I have found more clutter. I see a trip to the recycling centre this week ( our local one is great with very little going to landfill, allegedly) There seem to be layers. My house is like an onion 😃
I like the idea of more lamps. When I make my fortune I would like wall lights installed I think. In the meantime I'm just going to have a bit of a tidy up. I hope you all have a great day!

Today

  • Dishwasher repair sorted for Friday
  • I have been in bed every night at 8:30 and sparko - so not much project-eering going on 😄still a bit bunged up but it feels like whatever it was is on the outs as I have got loads more energy today
  • finish reading my book
  • pay day (hurrah!) food shopping and book up next load of pilates classes
  • coffee pods need recycling
  • hem some (more) pajamas - I am a trip hazard 😄
  • ironing
That is all for today, not a huge list but getting back into the swing, have a good day, SoE
SingleThreadJoiner · 25/03/2025 11:03

Good morning everyone, I think my fridge has been reading our thread because this morning I found it with the door very slightly ajar 🙄🙄 luckily we didn't have much meat and fish in it, only a couple of leftovers which we've thrown out, and everything else I think is salvageable.

Sunday was a great day for unplanned projects, daughter went into a tidying frenzy in her room and I took my chance to move her uniform bits to different drawers, free up space for books, and other related things. We are both very pleased with the outcome!

Lots of meetings and deadlines this week so not sure how much time for extra projects - but I do need to sort out a teacher present for a leaving teacher...

Aria999 · 25/03/2025 16:46

lol @Peridot1 I never buy linen! It creases if you look at it!

Peridot1 · 25/03/2025 17:18

@Aria999 - I know! I have no idea why I have ended up with so much. But. It’s all done!

And drumroll please…….i also sewed a button on! It popped off a top when I was away. It would normally take me forever to fix it (if I very did) but I got the sewing box out yesterday, found the button and left them on the table. Sewed button on and ironed the top this afternoon. Very proud of myself! 😄

Yesterday I changed my bed and washed my bedding and part cleaned the kitchen and did some ironing.

Today I rewashed the linen on a quick wash and ironed it all, did some sorting in my bedroom, made a batch of a rice salad for me for lunch which will do next few days as well as today, sewed button and that’s about it.

Tomorrow I need to clean the top of the cooker and the lights over the kitchen island.

Aria999 · 26/03/2025 15:08

Congratulations on the button win @Peridot1!

today the window cleaners are here doing inside and out for $$$$ (we should have bought a smaller house!) so it's hard to do much useful as I don't know where and when they will be in each room

folding some laundry in a desultory fashion

also DH hosted a dinner party last night so I am a little groggy today!

WinterFrogs · 26/03/2025 15:20

Your posts made me grin. A waking talking trip hazard and a literate fridge 😁
What is this thing you call linen @Peridot1 ?? 😅
I feel your button is a cracking project for our thread. Well done!
Desultory is the only way to fold laundry @Aria999 Although I did go through a Marie Kondo phase of folding and the drawers were a delight to behold for a short while.
I'm going to do project 333 with my clothing. I have a yearning to look 'put together', in part because even the residents at my mother's nursing home are more elegantly dressed than I am, and the management staff really put me to shame. But clothes bore me, so a capsule wardrobe would be a lovely 'once and for all'.
But first I need to put something together for our tea, so there is not a mad scramble later.

Best wishes to all!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 26/03/2025 17:10

I must look up Project333. I’ve seen it mentioned before. I have way too many clothes. Lots of which I don’t wear. Having lost quite a bit of weight I kind of went a bit mad buying new - partly because I needed to and mainly because it’s so nice to buy things I like rather than just what is in my size. I have started saving lots of ideas of outfits on Pinterest based on items I already own which is helping me decide on things I can get rid of.

Hope you have nice clean windows @Aria999! I probably need to do the insides of ours soon. I think I did them in November.

I have done quite a lot today. Went for a walk in the sunshine. Cleaned the top of the cooker and washed the tray in the grill and the inside of the grill door. Then I did the utility room which was pretty messy and grotty. All is now nice and clean and tidy. Washed the utility room floor plus the kitchen floor. And one of the lights over the island. Will do the other one when DH is cooking. Two lots of washing also done. New lampshades arrived so am about to change the old for new.

Feeling quite productive!

Aria999 · 27/03/2025 00:59

I still do the Marie Kondo vertically folded clothes @WinterFrogs! It's very satisfying. I quite like folding in small quantities but unfortunately it never comes in small quantities!

yes the windows are fully transparent now @Peridot1 thanks! Given the insane cost I can only justify doing them once a year so it makes a big difference.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2025 01:24

Ohhhh, folding! I still fold the way I was taught when I worked a p/t job in retail clothing eons ago. 😂

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 27/03/2025 06:12

Hi all- sorry, too lurgy-ridden to respond properly. I feel like a pale Victorian maiden laying wanly on the sofa. Waves in everyone's general direction.

Hope everyone has a great day.

JingsMahBucket · 27/03/2025 07:30

Wow @Peridot1 you had fully productive day. I’d be shattered after all that.

@Aria999 at least your windows are all shiny and bright now. How often do you have them cleaned?

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia sorry to hear you have the Victorian lurgy. Hopefully you’re not in your black mourning dress as well.

I’m trying to make myself get up and start my day. A few rounds of laundry are in order for sheets and dish towels today. I’ve been avoiding them for the past couple days because it feels like all we ever do is laundry. It’s so relentless!

Peridot1 · 27/03/2025 08:11

I need to fold properly. Might help with storage. Although drawers may just be full as I have too much stuff?

@Aria999 - we get the out side of the windows done about every two months but I do the inside. Much less often. Except for one silly window upstairs on the landing which is impossible to get to without a very tall ladder. I think DH has done that one twice in the four years we’ve been in the house.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - sorry you are feeling rubbish. Hope you manage to rest. DS was moaning about feeling like he was coming down with something last night and came looking for vitamins. Sent him to bed with Sambucol and echinacea.

@JingsMahBucket - I have a sort attention span so did everything bit by bit. So do part of job and have a sit down and then finish it.

SpiritOfEdna · 27/03/2025 12:09

Morning, I am so much more productive when sibling isn't WFH 😄
Today

  • load of washing on - DONE now drying
  • ironing on and being done in and around work meetings - one more top to go
  • SpiritDoggo needs walking
  • Sand hoovering as per usual
  • water all the plants
  • check if under bed storage is still out of stock - DONE and it is booo
  • day off tomorrow = timesheet today - DONE
  • need to check that I have a big supply of sanding sheets in for yep, a do-over of the do-over of the bed ready for when sibling is away and I can make noise and mess (more dust!)
  • get SpiritDoggo booked in for a groom
  • look up flights for Camino Way trip - if that was on another list that was not done.
  • bought a present for friend's sixtieth
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
Aria999 · 27/03/2025 17:07

Wow super productive @SpiritOfEdna!

I should probably do the insides myself too @Peridot1 but it takes forever. We have 37 windows, many of them with lots of little panes.

if you haven't tried it I highly recommend Marie Kondo style folding. Very satisfying and you can find things in your drawers! Picture attached (on the second attempt, last time I tried it crashed and lost my post).

Daily Project round 7
Aria999 · 27/03/2025 17:09

Today I have vac mopped the kitchen floor and completed the federal tax return. Just state and city ones to go now!

I have also started making smug soup though not very smug as the veggies were about 4 weeks old by the time I got to them. Root veg lasts a surprisingly long time!

Peridot1 · 27/03/2025 17:21

@Aria999 - I think I have the Marie Kondo book somewhere. I’ll give the folding a go.

Productive list @SpiritOfEdna. Very interested to hear about your Camino plans.

Not much achieved here today. PT session at gym this morning then went into local town to pick a couple of things up and get a few things at the supermarket. Came home and DS is working in the dining area filming and taking pictures of cans of beer in various ways. I wasn’t expecting him to be at it all day and was waiting for him to finish.

Managed to do a towel wash and put some laundry of mine away.

Hopefully I will get more done tomorrow.

petalpower · 27/03/2025 17:31

Had a productive few days - all this sunshine makes me want to get jobs done!
Today I’ve had an exciting trip to the tip (or recycling centre as it’s now called I think) with our old printer and some other electrical cables and textile recycling. I also had lunch with my lovely friend who handily works at a charity shop and she was happy to take a big box of donations (some from my dad’s house which I’m trying not to think about) and a bag of DVDs as we no longer have a DVD player. Yesterday I planted my potatoes and earlier in the week the onions and broad beans. The greenhouse now needs a good clean and sort out before starting to plant seeds in there but it also needs some running repairs which DH says he will do at some lint. One of the panes of glass has dropped out of the window as the wooden frame has rotted and needs repairing.
No individual mentions today but I hope you’re all well and enjoying the spring sunshine.

SingleThreadJoiner · 27/03/2025 18:21

Lovely to hear from everyone as every. It's been two days of minor emergencies here, quite literally - yesterday H got sent to A&E by the GP who wasn't sure about something (luckily he was in and out in two hours, and it was all OK), and this morning we woke up to a non functioning hot water supply (luckily someone can come tomorrow to check it out). So no headspace for anything except the basics!!

Peridot1 · 28/03/2025 08:56

Very productive @petalpower. I’m not in garden mode at all yet. Although have a few ideas. DH has planted some seed trays I think. No idea what though. I need the weather to improve a bit.

@SingleThreadJoiner - sounds very stressful..hope H is ok. And that you get hot water soon!

My list today:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • go for a walk
  • supermarket shop
  • dust sitting/dining area
  • vacuum and wash floors in sitting and dining area
  • laundry
  • change a bed and wash bedding

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 28/03/2025 16:41

Look at you all go! I hope your difficult things are sorted @SingleThreadJoiner and I hope you are feeling better @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia

I am weary. I had a week of being 'more active' and I've done a little too much of it.

I Marie Kondo'd my Marie Kondo book but J am inspired to start folding properly once more.
I do tend to really embrace projects, and MK was a 2016 one.
Being an active older woman seems to be a current focus. The trick is not to overdo it and bugger up one's knees of course.
House is a pit. It won't take long to sort out though. No special folding today, just need to get it away. We have visitors tomorrow so everything needs to be put in place this evening and I will hoover and dust tomorrow.

I have been out all day so quick coffee then I'm on it!
Can't believe it's Friday already. Welcome to the weekend everyone. Clock change weekend!!

RunningKatie · 28/03/2025 17:01

Happy Friday all! Just caught up, I too have had the sinus issue. Today I got some saline spray and it's a total game changer, I actually feel slightly human for the first time in 3 weeks.
My duvet day was bliss, right until DH messaged he was sick and coming home. So being the supportive wife, I rolled my eyes and then went out to M&S to stock up on chocolate.
Schools broke up here today for Easter, I've got a few days off, now I need to write myself a little list.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/03/2025 17:40

Sorry about the emergencies Single.
Katie, I use the Neil Med sinus rinse. I think you can buy it on Amazon if not avail where you are.l
Look after yourself Froggy.
I need to get into my garden, too Petal and Peridot.

Spring break here still and last day in Monday. Hope to get dc out shortly. Have used wand vacuum to clean up crumbs under and around table, couch and area rug. Havoc helped. Have got 2nd load of laundry on and basket is now empty. 🤗

Peridot1 · 29/03/2025 13:44

Hi all

Lovely sunny Saturday here. Feel I should be doing things outside or at least going for a walk but I’m sitting on the sofa wasting time.

We have friends coming for dinner tonight so am in tidying and cleaning mode doing what I should have done yesterday. So am about to do the floors. I have done some laundry and did a quick trip to the supermarket to get some things needed for tonight.

Also need to clean coffee table which involves getting down on hands and knees to clean bottom glass shelf. Not a job I enjoy!

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 29/03/2025 14:30

That saline nasal spray is amazing isn't it? Can see off a sinus infection if you're quick with it! Sorry about ths derailed duvet day @RunningKatie
Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc and hope you had nice time out with Havoc and baby. Eyes in the back of your head stage!
Sunny here too @Peridot1 and I'm lying on my bed scrolling, but in my defence I've had a busy and sociable morning, much of it outside. DH is at football so I'm enjoying being lazy on my own.
I did get the house put straight yesterday and it only took half an hour. Minimalism rules! 💪
We're not properly minimalist but I am quite ruthless and I fortunately have little interest in acquiring things.
I read the thread about prepping for 24 hours so might heave my lardy arse off the bed and see what we've got in the larder. That can count as my project for today.
