Good morning! I thought of you all yesterday while shampooing 💩 off the carpet yesterday. Shoes off household, but something shat right outside my back door and someone (maybe the cat?) obviously trod in it. Have inspected all slippers and DH crocs, and the cat, and nowt to be seen. But lovely smelly smears on the carpet. Nice! Think it might be hedgehog poo - are they awake yet?
@single purplish pink will be ideal for future nail varnish/make up incidents ( I have DDs so trust me on this 😎)
I appreciate the spin on having peaked @JingsMahBucket and @Peridot1 Tbf I was doing a procrastinate à la @Aria999 and now I must do some computer stuff, but at least I'll be doing it in a clean house!
I hope pilates went ok @SpiritOfEdna and that you have regained your confidence after the faceplant 💕
I must get on. Am volunteering this morning 🐎 and they will want their breakfast! And my mother has requested that I take in some summer clothes. Is a daughter job apparently. Her sons won't do, even though the clothes are hanging in her wardrobe so it's not like it involves shopping.
I hope you all have a lovely day 💐 🌞

Froggy, hedgehog 💩???? I think I'd be 😷
Single, an unintended extra task.
SoE, puppy sotting sounds fun!
Aria, you've reminded me to get taxes in order.
Peridot, I love line-dried clothes. Reminds me of my childhood.
Sorry if I've missed anyone. 🤔

Have just wiped the floor from crumbs etc from the kids. Last night I wiped kitchen floor, took the garbage out and wiped out the bin with vinegar. Managed to get two loads of laundry done in the morning then took dc out sledding for the afternoon. There was a lot of fresh snow and it was snowing when we left.

Aria999 · 21/03/2025 19:06

I have given up on the tax return for today as the clean laundry is again threatening to overrrun the house and I need to fight it back!

Also my brain is exploding (so... many... forms...). Nearly there though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2025 00:04

I'm thinking of doing taxes myself this year; seems simple enough if I just follow how they were filed last few times... easy, right? 🧐

given you live in Canada it might be fine!

US ones are hideous but you can get through them ok by just following all the steps and accepting that the number of forms is very large...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2025 01:03

I don't think they're any easier here...
I started taking my taxes to an accountant after getting my submission back with several pages of corrections one year. 😬🤦‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2025 07:11

Finished part of my kitchen painting project after dc went to sleep. My fridge is in a corner and I painted part of that, too. Pics before/after of a section of the wall at the end of the counter. It was just spackle, sanding and three good coats of paint. I probably could've gotten away with two coats, but it looks really solid now with three.

My DH was an accountant in Days of Yore but he takes our taxes to a firm.. mainly because they have indemnity insurance if they screw it up! He's a cynical sort😆This is in the UK though so not sure how it works across the pond. Does everyone have to do an annual tax return? Here if you pay tax through a pay as you go employment scheme** it's just deducted and you don't think about it again. All well and good until you discover HR gave you the wrong tax code and you are OWED thousands (which was a delightful surprise for me once- but can go the other way too).

Not much happening Chez Lobelia. DH and the DCs have the lurgy so they will miss swimming today and DS1 in particular looks very white. I plan on good old chicken noodle soup for lunch to help out.

Today is going to be a general maintenance day. I've not been on top of things this week so need to do alot of washing and to clean out the fridge.

**I am not sure if that is exactly how it works. Now I do temp and freelance work I have to submit my tax return also.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2025 07:55

Lobelia, yes, same here. Even if you don't owe tax you still must file, but if you owe then you are penalized if you file past deadline.
Sorry to hear your family is sick. I thought my cold had pretty much gone til tonight. Now I feel it's not just sinuses, but maybe in my chest a bit. May I have some of your soup, too, please? 🤧

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 22/03/2025 08:02

I just love the insight into everyone's lives! Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc

I hope your sinuses and chest feel better soon- that really hurts. I wish I could make you soup. I'll take a photo.

I think we said this way back on one of the original threads- but wouldn't be great if we could all meet up one day!

Thanks to all.

Edited

I normally get at least one 'correction' where they change a right thing to a wrong thing.... so far it has been that I call or write to them and they change it back, but given the IRS have just been drastically downsized I am not sure how it will go this year!

Peridot1 · 22/03/2025 11:41

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - it would be great to all meet up one day!

DH seems to have a lurgy here too. He went to bed around 6.30 last night. To be honest he always seems to have a lurgy! As soon as he gets over one he gets another.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - great painting! I’m contemplating repainting an item of furniture but leave anything more to professionals! Mainly because DH says he’d rather pay someone to do it so who am I to disagree? But we do need to get someone booked in to do a few rooms this year.

For taxes I made sure to marry an accountant and he does them. 😄

I took the mattress topper off DS’s bed to be laundered yesterday and took a bag of old glasses to SpecSavers.

Today I’m starting on the ironing. Ordering some new lamp shades. Tidying the utility room. Also need to book some flights to Dublin for next month.

Have a great Saturday all.

petalpower · 22/03/2025 11:44

No projecteering here today as I’m heading up to London to meet an old uni friend for lunch! It’s been planned for ages and I’m
really looking forward to it. So much to catch up on!
Our house seems to be getting full of inherited stuff which I’m trying to keep on top of. My dad’s belongings are being cleared from his house and it’s difficult to say no to things that hold so many memories. It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since we were clearing auntie’s house when she moved to the care home and then sorting out her belongings after she passed away. Any tips from others who’ve been through the same?

WinterFrogs · 23/03/2025 07:06

Morning all! I have not needed to do a tax return for ten years, for which I am thankful. But recently I filled in an attendance allowance form on behalf of my mother, and that messed with my brain a bit.
There's a glorious feeling of marvellousness when these things are completed though. Can you focus on that @Aria999?
@Mumtobabyhavoc I am inspired to touch up my kitchen after seeing your pictures 💕 I am sorry to read that you are still feeling unwell.
@petalpower I hope you had a lovely lunch with your friend. Well deserved! I'm sorry, I have no tips as I was looking at mum's house only yesterday, and thinking how hard it will be. As you say, so many memories 😔
Tactical move, marrying an accountant @Peridot1 I like it! 😎😅
I hope your family were magically restored by your soup @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia 💐
It's feeling all springy round here today. The birdsong and the scent, even though it feels a little bit chilly still. The heating has not come on for a few days. The smart meter is showing much more reasonable numbers!
I hope you all have a happy Sunday...ooh this time next week the clocks change!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 23/03/2025 07:34

Morning!

Hi everyone! Hope you had a great day @petalpower . You really deserve it after all the strains you have had.

I discovered not too long after posting yesterday that our freezer door had been left ajar. (It's only a small freezer with three drawers so thankfully not huge). So i have rescued all the meat I could and our meals for the entre week have thus been decided for me. So the chicken noodle soup ended up being a herby pork sausage noodle soup and was much disliked by all- for good reason. Grin

Tonight will be mini beef wellingtons made by our local butcher and Aunt Bessies roast potatos.

I did not do alot of anything yesterday in the end. Just feeling very tired so maybe I am getting the lurgy also. So I watched an awful lot of netflix and googled farmhouses to buy in France. I think I will take @WinterFrogs lead and turn off our central heating as well. Cost of living and all that.

best wishes to all and I hope everyone has a lovely day!

SpiritOfEdna · 23/03/2025 07:56

Another one with something. It’s so annoying isn’t it?

Sibling had it last week and now me. Debating whether to go to Pilates tomorrow morning ( I have to confirm asap) - it’s a very early class and I was in bed (and asleep) at 8:30 last night and still feeling tired! Today might just be pottering around with a longish dog walk and then need to attack the house (hoovering, surfaces clean) before collapsing on the sofa in pyjamas (gah). SpiritDoggo desperately needs a bath - it may be a busy day after all. 😂

WinterFrogs · 23/03/2025 07:57

How frustrating @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ! Good save though! Our worst freezer incident happened when the power was accidentally switched off to our 'spare' freezer. It resulted in a 2am clean up of rotten leaking food ( in a hot August) I'd spent a couple of days searching for the source of a bit of a whiff, but on this night I woke and the stench was bad! It had leaked out onto the kitchen floor.

I suppose I should be grateful that the power hadn't been turned back on. We no longer bother with an extra freezer ( luckily it was also a small one)
I hope a restful day will keep the your lurgy at bay 💐
Ps our heating being off was not deliberate. It's just telling that the thermostat has not caused the boiler to fire up. I'd still pop it on if anyone was cold. Our solid little mid-terrace does hold the daytime warmth quite well. It's quite a good CoL house 😊 There is a lot of building round our way at the moment. My friend downsized to a new estate. The house is gorgeous ( to look at and all shiny and lovely inside) I was so tempted to try to persuade DH to move to similar, but it turns out that it's like a tin box, cold in winter and boiling in summer. So much for all the talk of environmentally responsible buildings - they are just throwing them up! And they are very expensive too.
Well that was a waffle!
Pps Lobelia we have been known to look at buying one of those little properties half way up the side of a mountain in the Pyrenees. Usually when the Tour De France is on. We get all excited for about three weeks!

Cross posted @SpiritOfEdna Morning! Sorry to hear you're feeling blah. Hopefully a bit of fresh air with doggo will improve matters 💕 Don't overdo it today!

SpiritOfEdna · 23/03/2025 08:05

lol @WinterFrogs you’ve just reminded me that the puppy cocked his leg up on the fridge and I need to pull the fridge out to make sure it all got mopped up 😂

Peridot1 · 23/03/2025 09:56

Sorry more people seem to have the lurgy.

@SpiritOfEdna - I’d say a day off Pilates wouldn’t hurt if you are coming down with something.

Hope you had a lovely catch up @petalpower. It is hard clearing out things with memories. I was quite tough when we were clearing my parent’s house - partly as it would have been hard to get some things back to UK. My sisters took quite a bit but lots either went to charity shops or into a skip.

MIL’s house will be a nightmare as she has so much stuff. Thankfully it won’t be our responsibility (she is DH’s stepmother and he doesn’t really feel responsible for her for various reasons). Her nieces and nephew will end up doing it although I will offer to go and help. She is in a nursing home so the house will have to be sold but she refuses to discuss it.

I didn’t do all I’d planned yesterday but I did start the ironing. And booked my flights. Will do some more ironing today and order lamp shades.

Have a good Sunday all.

petalpower · 23/03/2025 10:03

Really lovely lunch yesterday - lots of food, wine and catching up. The time just flew by. We’ve known each other for 35 years now!
A bit of a win yesterday (although not strictly projecteering) was that I’m seeing another friend for lunch later this week (a bit of a theme developing!) and she works at a charity shop. She’s happy for me to pass on some of my dad’s bits and pieces so in the next few days I’m going to be a bit ruthless with some less sentimental things and get them out of the house.
What a nuisance about the open fridge door @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia . I had that a few years ago with our extra freezer in the garage.

petalpower · 23/03/2025 10:07

Cross posted there @Peridot1 . We cleared out the family home when dad moved in with my stepmother a few years ago. It’s a bit complicated with a blended family situation and who owns what in the house. Stepmother is also now in a care home with dementia and the house that she lived in with dad (which was hers) will need to be sold at some point.

JingsMahBucket · 23/03/2025 13:42

Happy Sunday everyone! Just catching up on the thread now. @Peridot1 @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia @Mumtobabyhavoc sorry everyone's gone down with some sort of lurgy this past week. My sinuses are still giving me a bit of trouble regarding dizziness. I've done a few household tasks today:

  • Sorted dirty laundry into piles
  • Put on a load of laundry
  • Stripped the bed
  • Aerated the bedroom and bathroom (and the bed)
  • Folded the clean laundry

I'm taking a break to do actual work now and catch up on MN threads. I want to do some batch cooking later this evening to make life a bit easier this week.

Aria999 · 23/03/2025 20:29

I am a terrible host of play dates. It's so stressful. When the kids are entertaining themselves it's fine but being responsible for someone else's kid when they are possibly not having fun is stressful.

today has been weird as we ended up with 2 overlapping play dates for DS, the kids migrated a few times between our house and one of the others who are near us, and DD's friend is probably a no show.

Peridot1 · 24/03/2025 09:05

@petalpower - blended families definitely adds to the complications. Thankfully we didn’t have that on my side. But MIL had her house before she married DH’s dad so it is all hers pretty much. A few things of his Dad’s.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and all lurgies are on the way out.

I did some more ironing yesterday. So the pile is decreasing slowly. Contemplating putting all the linen through a quick wash and ironing it all while damp. Why did I buy so much linen when I hate ironing it!

I also ordered lampshades for two lamps. And a lamp for the top of a bookshelf.

Today’s list:

  • change my bed - already stripped and some in washing machine
  • clean kitchen
  • clean downstairs cloakroom
  • vacuum and wash hall floor
  • start a sort out of clothes in my room - it’s all a bit out of control
  • look at links for a new stove that DH sent me

Have a great day all.
