Congrats @WinterFrogs! I always wonder how it is that I spend my entire time tidying and yet the house is mostly still messy. I think it's because if I actually get it clean I relax a bit and it comes back at me!

sad news about your PILs @RunningKatieand @SingleThreadJoiner

i am also trying to nail the remaining unpacking @Peridot1, unfortunately I am down to kids bits and pieces which drive me crazy so am engaging in some serious high level procrastination during which I have tidied the living room and deployed the robot, and ordered a new steam cleaner...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/03/2025 17:11

Petal, you might want to check closely. Could be a deceased mouse. If not, the smell can signal ruptured/backed up pipes. Just worst case scenarios to check. Otherwise baking soda and very hot water usually does the trick. I had same in my kitchen once.
Jings, that's what my cold has become. It seems to have turned the corner as I've been doing the saline sinus rinse obsessively, really, and it has been very satisfying watching all the guck go down the drain. (File this under tmi). 😂

Working on toilet training Havoc. It has been a very slow process with a multitude of set-backs. Of late, Havoc has been diagnosed with "toddler's diarrhea" which I think is having the biggest impact, as you can imagine. We did the "bare bum at home all day" method yesterday and Havoc had a poo accident on the very long shag rug in the dining room. 😳 So, my cleaning project was that, which led to steam cleaning all the floors again since i had the cleaner out, cleaning the bathroom and the glass door to the deck. It's spring break, so we're heading out soon, possibly to the park and library.

WinterFrogs · 18/03/2025 18:19

Thank you @Aria999 #takes a bow! It has been a long time coming!
Hugs @Mumtobabyhavoc that is a lot to cope with when you're ill!
Cat's been booked in, and I have made a couple of tricky work calls so I'm quite pleased with myself.
Apologies if I sound smug but I am the world's biggest procrastinator and I'm just over the moon that I've accomplished some things these last few days. It's been a difficult year but I'm hoping we're coming out the other side.

Eight weeks till our newest family member arrives 🙏 His mummy is still being sick 😞
I am still contemplating making smug soup. But not today.
Hugs all round with all the things you're all dealing with 💕

Ps @Aria999 getting rid of a lot of clutter has really, really helped.
In my next life I will not have children with a borderline hoarder, and I will not accept all the kindly-meant bags of passed on clothes and toys. I will be discerning about what comes into my home. And I will tidy up every evening once my beautifully behaved children are quietly asleep in bed ( which of course will be by 7.30pm)
😆 🤣 😂

Nothing too exciting here today, but I did spontaneously get ride of some items from my cupboard that I don't think I've ever used. (Glass dish w lid, glass dessert set w tray and a serving plate). Quite proud I didn't decide to mull it over first.

Peridot1 · 19/03/2025 09:18

Morning all.

Hope you and Havoc are feeling better @Mumtobabyhavoc. I think I would hold off on the potty training for now. Sometimes they are not ready one month and miraculously get it a few weeks later. Especially if they have tummy problems just now.

Well I didn’t get much achieved yesterday for some reason. So yesterday’s list is today’s list with the addition of getting ready for the cleaner. And maybe some ironing.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/03/2025 11:53

Morning, a few difficult meetings done so am looking round at what needs doing.

  • dishes! New dishwasher will be ordered today after some procrastination
  • have been hoovering up sand randomly this morning. Took SpiritDoggo to the beach yesterday to find that roadworks had switched lanes on the way back and no-one would let me filter in - all looking determinedly ahead! I drove to the front of the queue and a kind lorry driver let me in, but don't fancy repeating the experience today. Will be better at weekend when less traffic on dock road.
  • prep for an interview - last week's interview I was not prepared for I thought it was a discussion of cvs with HR, so that was a shocker
  • recycling of coffee pods
  • I am planning my Camino Way trip; I'll be travelling by train a lot to get there and back - unless I get over nervousness about flying (I can fly, I just don't like it)
  • new washing pole arrived for drying stuff outside. Very giddy
  • my bedroom is a tip, it needs emptying and decorating and then sorting (and the bed stripping and re-finishing....) but I'll be happy today with books of the floor, clothes in the wardrobe) Dirty laundry in the machine
Have a good one, SoE
RunningKatie · 19/03/2025 12:12

Glorious sunshine here today, ddog and I have been for a good long walk around the lake and he's now sunbathing.
I've got a duvet day from work today, complete bliss - I've got permission to do nothing at all. I'm either going to read a book or have a power nap after lunch and before the dc arrive home.
Thanks for all the good wishes for PIL. DH and DBIL are shuttling MIL back and forth, I'm hopeful that the spring will give her a boost as she can potter in the garden and not just have hospital visits as her sole focus.
Much sympathies on the potty training @Mumtobabyhavoc - although the rug story made me laugh, we had similar on a bean bag. Got to love them!
Good luck for your interview SoE.
Waves to everyone else!

petalpower · 19/03/2025 14:54

Beautiful sunshine again here. It makes me feel all productive and want to get on with jobs! Thanks for the drain advice @Mumtobabyhavoc . It’s a guest bathroom that isn’t often used and I think may be to do with that. Today I’ve put down caustic soda crystals and have let the hot water run for a long time. In better news the ants have gone from the kitchen which is a relief.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/03/2025 19:05

Winter, how exciting that the baby will arrive soon! I feel for your daughter, though. 💐
Petal, glad to know it's sorted - especially the ants! 😅
Katie, sounds like a great day for you! 😄
I just finished cleaning 💩 off the floor in 2 places and 😱 at the 💩 all over the toilet. Poor Havoc was lying on a towel I had placed over the bath mat for changing diapers and legs covered in 💩 and very quiet. 😥
I praised Havoc for trying and to next time call mummy to help. Needless to say it's another bare bum day.

So, washed floor in two places, scrubbed toilet and sink and gave Havoc a thorough bath. I'll call those my extras for the morning!

SoE, interviews are such shite, really. I don't think they are an indication of how well someone can do a job. 💐
Peridot, very good advice. Thanks. 💕 Toddler diarrhoea can last to age 4-6.... fruit sugar, digestive system adapting, fluid intake... a lot of reasons. I'm going to ask for a Paed referral for some help as Havoc is over 3 now. But, big success today with Havoc trying and seems to have good bladder control.

Aria999 · 19/03/2025 19:52

@Mumtobabyhavoc not sure it's much consolation but DS failed to potty train until he was nearly 4 (we tried on and off for a year and a half). He got it suddenly when he started preschool and everyone else was doing it. (DD on the other hand just started in underwear one day when we ran out of diapers and had very few accidents). I think when they are ready, it happens.

I appreciate that. 😊
I've been getting Havoc on the toilet at diaper changes and that has been successful, too. There has been resistance, but just normal level, I think. Going fairly well now and getting on toilet most times without prompting most times. It's the loose 💩 that is the barrier coupled with natural uncertainty about toilet use for 💩. I'm just concerned the diarrhoea is having a psychological impact and want to nip that in the bud.
(I've never used the 💩 emoji so much! )😊

Aria999 · 19/03/2025 21:07

I thought we were getting somewhere at one point and then a stomach bug put us back to square one, it does make it hard.

The whole thing has also left DS with a lasting hatred of M&Ms after I tried using them as bribes for a while...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/03/2025 22:19

Aria, good to know! Maybe that's the way to keep 'em off candy? 🤣

I spent a good hour or so doing a bit of painting in the kitchen. I'm using the slow, but sure method. 😁
Will post pics before/after once this bit is done. I also popped around and used the bit of paint left in the tray to do touch-ups to scuffs on baseboards, corners, etc.
I finished and cleaned up just before Havoc woke up from a nap, so it all worked out perfectly! 🥳

You're heading to bed and I'm just about to take the dc out for an after dinner walk. 😂

WinterFrogs · 20/03/2025 11:21

Hello! 💩 has featured quite highly in my life too @Mumtobabyhavoc Grew up on farm, four children, worked in elderly care. And only last week DH had the trots and he was quite gleeful about telling me exactly what his bowels were up to 😂 Poor Havoc. I hope it settles down for both your sakes!

@RunningKatie I do hope you enjoyed your duvet day! @SpiritOfEdna to your sand I raise you a car full of dried mud! I made it to the recycling centre. Pleased with that. Paid some bills for my mother.
Tee shirt weather today! I cleaned the insides of windows last week and the window cleaner has been, so I can't even complain about sun showing the dirt.

I have peaked though. Normal service has resumed around the house, and I'm starting to suspect that the wilted veg are not going to make it into a soup.
I am contemplating sorting out the coats and shoes in the hall.
Pleased you got the ants sorted @petalpower @Peridot1 I'm not sure if I said I admired your charity shop find. It looks lovely!
I do hope you all have a happy and productive day.

Morning folks. I'm crawling back and catching up after having a couple of really off days due to the sinus issues. The laundry is still sitting unfolded but this morning I took a deliberate walk around the block to drop off glass in the local recycling container. We probably still need a couple trips to get it cleared from the front door's vestibule. The bed has also been made.

@SpiritOfEdna I feel you on the bedroom being a bit of a tip. The window sill has been cleared but the top of our drawers still needs a lot of help. Good luck with your next round of interviews!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope little Havoc is okay and not feeling ashamed or anything. (Probably not because kids that age have very little inhibitions 😂).

@WinterFrogs you've powered through the week, so Thursday's a good day to take a break. 🙂

@petalpower yes to the sunny days making me want to do things and get the house cleaned and sorted!

@RunningKatie how was your duvet day yesterday. Hopefully it was restful.

SpiritOfEdna · 20/03/2025 11:37

Morning

  • puppy sitting for me; big difference from last time when he was ferociously wanting attention now he is snoozing behind me on the chair and I’m clinging on to the edge 🐕‍🦺 we’ll have a quick walk once my next meeting is done and a longer walk later with both dogs together #chaos
  • Pilates tonight so need to check clean gym kit when I pop home later. I face planted the machine on Monday so a bit nervous today!
  • I’ve mentally shelved the bedroom till the next long weekend. Sibling will be away so house to myself and I’ll tackle everything then. (Or lie on the sofa and read books)
Not much projecteering for me today, have a good one, SoE
Aria999 · 20/03/2025 14:38

Procrastination continues. Today's job is the tax return, I just spent half an hour creating a nice automated index for my enormous tax calculation excel spreadsheet... also have DS's twice postponed teacher meeting today, I promised to bring her a coffee as she is doing it in her lunch break. Might bring donuts too!

Peridot1 · 20/03/2025 15:41

Coffee and doughnuts sounds great @Aria999! Tax return not so much……

@JingsMahBucket - hope you are feeling on the mend. Hate sinus infections.

@WinterFrogs - I wouldn’t say you have peaked - more that you are taking stock of your achievements and contemplating the next stage! And thanks - very happy with my charity shop purchase! I had spotted it before I went away but didn’t buy it. Couldn’t believe it was still there when I got back! It was obviously meant to be.

I got quite a lot done yesterday including a big tidy and sort out and change bed in DS’s room. Cleaner was in and did all upstairs bathrooms plus DH’s bedroom. I did lots of laundry. And various other things.

Today was PT session at the gym at 9. Some laundry - gorgeous day so first lot actually hung outside this year. I was going to do some ironing but when I went to get the ironing board out of the cupboard various items fell over so I decided to do a bit of a sort out and vacuum. So that’s today’s extra task. Cupboard is now clean and tidy. Ironing has moved to tomorrow’s list.

SingleThreadJoiner · 20/03/2025 19:46

Hello all. Sorry to hear about the poo @Mumtobabyhavoc - I do not look back at potty training days with fondness. I definitely ended up binning a few pants and trousers...

House is looking almost decent at the moment as the cleaners came today, but it will be a disaster zone by the weekend of course. Yesterday I managed a small but important extra task of ordering the leaving present for our babysitter - she's going back to our home country after two and a half years and will be sorely missed!!

Today I spilled a generous amount of calpol on my daughter's carpet 🙄🙄🙄 so H and I discovered how to use the cleaning kit that came with the new carpet... I think it worked? But can't tell for sure, as the carpet itself is purplish pink. Very handy 🤣
