Morning all.

Enjoy your trip @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia.

Hope your back is ok @WinterFrogs.

I haven’t achieved much this week so far. At least not all of the jobs on my list. But I’m chipping away at stuff. I have some things I need to sell but for some reason Vinted doesn’t seem to like me and I can’t manage to register. I am on Debop though so will attempt that. Failing that a friend has offered to put them on Vinted for me.

Today I have a facial booked for this morning so won’t get much else done. Need to fit my walk in before too. Have some laundry in the machine. Also need to do a towel wash. Need to sort the pile of bags for life that I uncovered in the under stairs cupboard at the weekend and just left on the floor.

I did manage to book myself a week away for next month. DH is invited but probably won’t come. So a week of sun, sand and lots of reading and walking and relaxing is the plan.

Hi all

Had an exhausting two days

Woke up at like 4 yesterday, didn't get to bed til 11ish!

My bed broke so it was replaced. Took me AGES to set the replacement up, dd was very cross with me for not paying her attention, but was happy when it was set up

The argos team wouldnt collect the old one as it wasnt packaged up properly, so ive got to store it in my hallway until Wednesday 🙄

Then today I woke up with dd at around 9 (alarm set for 5🙈) and took her to a cycle group for sen kids.

Shes gone from not being able to pedal forwards at all, to managing it quite well 😊. Still can't steer so need support but so proud of her

Then we went to the Sealife Aquarium. Even though i'm a born and raised londoner, I still act like a tourist when looking at the houses of Parliament 😄, i love seeing it up close

Dd liked the aquarium, I think i was more excited than her - we saw sharks, lots of fish, tiny seahorses. No octopuses though which was disappointing

Then I did some amazon returns and bought some polo shirts for school

Finally home and safely in bed, watching Chappell Roan at Reading and Leeds festival on the bbc iplayer. Got nothing planned for tomorrow, its gonna be great

Have a lovely weekend all ❤️

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 23/08/2025 16:41

Thanks all for the hugs and the moral support. things are moving sort of speedily along and we hope to have them settled in their new home by the end of the coming week. Then we can start the school year with a more regular routine....I sincerely hope. I've managed to keep on top of laundry though this week, and even do some extra tasks like ordering books online, and a new school cardi, and meeting a potential new babysitter.

Yesterday I made smug pasta topping for dinner - using a sad onion, two very sad mushrooms from the fridge, some sad frozen spinach, and some decidedly not sad and delicious pancetta cubes - really rather good!

Back to the PILs tomorrow and gearing up for the big task of saying goodbye to the neighbours and Closing Down The House. We'll no doubt be back in a couple of weeks to do more bits and pieces on it, but in the meantime we need to the basics like emptying fridge and freezer, shutting down the gas, clearing the pantry etc. I predict a lot of Olio in my future....

WinterFrogs · 23/08/2025 16:44

I am glad to see you posting again @mumofoneAloneandwell I tend to disappear when my mh is wobbly so I was hoping that you were ok!
@Peridot1 I recklessly sat at a desk for a full day which caused the back injury. It's getting better but am still mostly fuelled by anti inflammatories and voltarol gel. Years or working on my feet never injured me to this extent. I know it's my own fault for bad posture though 😔

I am glad things have calmed down for you @petalpower and that your parents are safe. My mother is living it up, but I'm seeing her get more confused every time I go. The staff are amazing and do a great job of orientating her so she feels more capable than she is ❤️

My car is full of grot again, and it's being serviced next week, so that's good motivation to clean it out. Time is flying and it's Saturday again which means DH is at football ( in August this feels all kinds of wrong to me - it should be cricket!) and I'm just chilling with the cat ( constant companion!) despite there being plenty I could be doing.

I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend 😊

Thank you @WinterFrogs 🥺🥰

It got bad for a bit. But life is for living and giving your opinion on random topics

This thread is truly a safe space x

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I think your day deserved bold and large font!

@mumofoneAloneandwell - welcome back. And @Aria999!

@mumofoneAloneandwell - your comment about not being thinner reminds me of going to see MIL’s mum (aged 100 or so but totally with it) and her comment to me was “oh hello lovely- you haven’t lost any weight - did you mean to?” 😃. MIL was mortified!

Sorry @Peridot1 i must've missed this as I was going through older pages!

Thank you, good to be back x

😭😭 at 100, you just dont hold back on your opinions do you - i bet you look good though, hope you didnt pay her any attention 🥰

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/08/2025 07:54

Ok. Got home from evening out with dc and vacuumed and put a load of laundry on which has now been hung up. My extra was to use a bit of dish washing soap on an oil stain (vinaigrette from my salad 😵‍💫) on the couch then put dish cloth and veggie scrub brush in a large bowl of dish soap and vinegar then fill with boiling water. Leaving that to soak over night. 🤗

Hello everyone, hope you are all ok, I've been reading along but haven't had the energy to post. I returned to work last week after being off for 10 weeks. I think it's a bit early but I know it will be better for my mental health.
Today's tasks are to sort out all the washing. I'm so out of routine and struggling to keep up with it even though it's only me. I also need to work out how to charge our ring camera (it's not a doorbell but an actual camera) and finish sorting out DH's phone number which has turned into a bigger hassle than I thought it would. I'm choosing one room a day this week to concentrate on so today is the spare room. I just want it to be clutter free and if I have time give it a dust and hoover.

Last week was my 40th birthday, an all round rubbish experience without DH. This, as well as returning to work and dealing with all the sadmin whilst grieving my best friend and soul mate and the future I thought we had has been a lot so number one thing on my list today is to try and sort some counselling. I know it's maybe a bit early but I know some of my thoughts have the potential to really take me to a scary place so I do need to speak with someone soon.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing ok ❤

petalpower · 25/08/2025 10:38

I’m sorry things are so tough for you @autumnangel . Please always reach out if you find you are having scary thoughts. There is always a listening ear on this thread. Have you spoken to your doctor? I had some counselling after my mum died and found it really helpful. There was no magic wand but it just gave me the space to say things I couldn’t say to friends and family. I had a face to face counsellor through Cruse ( a bereavement charity) but they also have a helpline which is 0808 808 1677 - it looks as if it is office hours rather than 24/7. Their website also has information about other local
support.

SpiritOfEdna · 25/08/2025 11:16

@autumnangel so sorry things are so tough at the moment. Not sure if you peak into other places on MN but there is a bereavement board and the top one is for MN-ers who have lost their spouse. But we are always here.

Am en route to France at the minute sitting at Gatwick with world’s most expensive disgusting breakfast 😂 in front of me thankfully it’s just been taken away. Will post some photos tomorrow when I start walking x have a great day, SoE

Peridot1 · 25/08/2025 13:51

Hello all.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - DD sounds like she is doing great with the cycling. Well done her! And I know just what you mean about still feeling like a tourist seeing the Houses of Parliament etc in London. I am the same. MIL’s mum was lovely and I didn’t take her comment to heart but she wasn’t wrong! I have however now lost quite a bit of weight so I think she’d be pleased.

@autumnangel - I think counselling is a really good idea and I don’t think it’s too soon at all. You have a lot to process. The circle of grief is real and doesn’t necessarily go in a neat straight line. You will be all over the place for a while. Having a professional to speak to will do you a lot of good. Especially as you will eventually get to a stage where you notice that everyone else seems to have moved on and wants you to also. Having a safe space to talk about how you are feeling will be invaluable.

@WinterFrogs - that was an interesting piece. And both true and helpful.

@SpiritOfEdna - have a fantastic time! I hope you enjoy it all and don’t get any blisters. Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

I am not sure where time is going. I think I say that a lot! Is it a sign of age I wonder? 🤔

Anyway. Today I have been for my walk. Should have gone earlier as was a sweaty mess when I got back but I enjoyed it. I have been really diligent about my walks for the last while and I’m feeling the benefit. And seeing results on the scale.

I have a load of washing done and ready to hang up which I will do shortly. Might potter on the patio for a bit although it’s quite hot. Or I might read my book for the afternoon in the shade.

We are having some work done both inside and outside over the next month. Outside won’t involve me much but inside is painting the kitchen/dining/sitting area so I need to pack a lot of things away as it starts just after I get back from my holiday. I feel a long list might be needed.

Have a great day all. Sorry that was so long!

WinterFrogs · 25/08/2025 16:22

I am thinking of you @autumnangel Bereavement counselling would give you space to say things you might worry about saying to friends and family, as yoh don't need to fear upsetting a therapist💔

Big loves to everyone ☕️ 🍰
@SpiritOfEdna have a great trip!
I hope our @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia is having a good time down under. You'll be wanting a name change soon 🍂

I shared that link on another thread where an overwhelmed mum was asking how to be tidy.
I thought I'd cracked it, but when we got busy with so much family stuff, plus a new job, I definitely came over all chaotic and I really need to take my own advice!

Right now I'm attempting to get a head start on tomorrow. I'd rather be reading!

Best wishes all round 💐

Hi all.

I have been all efficient this morning and sat down and did a brain dump list. And now my brain seems to think it’s all done and dealt with! Finding it hard to decide what to actually do.

I do need to make up my bed as I have stripped it and washed the bedding. Need nip to post a package to my sister but need to buy a post bag first. Also need to message electrician. And book some appointments and taxis to airport. That might be it for the day.

SydneyCarton · 26/08/2025 15:47

I have cleared out a random bowl in the kitchen which has become cluttered up with old sweets, hairbands, bits of Lego etc. Now it only has a few bits of emergency needle and thread, a pencil and a couple of safety pins which feels much more manageable and actually useful.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/08/2025 16:18

Good morning everyone. 🩷
Just maintaining things here. 🤷‍♀️
The weather app on my phone shows sun and mid-high 20's temps for the next 10 days, so plans are to get the dc out a lot. School for them is still a month away, Kindy and up begins after Labour Day here.
My mind has been going to my horror storage closet and finishing painting. 🙄 I'm doing laundry every other day. My extra yesterday was tidying the cutlery drawer and switching everything around.

@autumnangel Sending love and support. 💐🩷
@SpiritOfEdna hoping your trip is off to a great start
@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia i love Australia! Hope it's amazing for you. 😊
@Peridot1 good for you re fitness routine! 🤗
I think it's worth noting that it is also a part of life organization. 👏

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/08/2025 18:11

I just thought id pop on and share this with you 🤭🤭

Took dd to the beach today - i knew she'd love it as she loves swimming. 2 hour drive each way, not too bad

She had the time of her life! Thankfully it started raining so I manged to get her to walk back to the car without much fuss, although she did throw her ice cream (£3.90 for a 99!!!) on the floor

We're finally home and in bed, i'm set to relax with mumsnet and eastenders while she has a bagel and watches Hey Duggee on her tablet

She has other plans. Shes put on a long sleeved top, inside out, and her crocs, winnie the pooh style, and is trying to get me to take her back to the beach 😭😭😭😭😭

She's only got a few words but is saying 'car' - 'beesh'' and pulling me 😄 - i'm like 'its bedtime!'

Day 1 pictures. No beautiful mountain pictures as it was a cold misty day 😂 But there’s always a MAMIL. Managed to lose my sodding map so think ending up walking 16 miles today instead of 15 (boo). Tomorrow is another 15 miler but with more places to stop. Legs and feet are aching but hopefully a night’s sleep will sort them out 😂

Looks gorgeous @mumofoneAloneandwell
Stay safe @SpiritOfEdna

Since last post laundry finished and I hung it up. I then sanded the bit of wall above counter and behind sink that needs to be painted after dings etc filled.
I have taken dc to spray pRk/playground for an hour, returned, bathed us all and plan to be out the door in 15 mins for a med appt about 30 mins drive away. Need to leave 45 mins before appt to account for parking and walking. 🤞

petalpower · 26/08/2025 20:49

You've all been so busy! Lovely beach and walk photos too.
We had a big family gathering over the BH weekend (we host every year) and had 20-30 people here each day, most staying so I’ve been doing lots of laundry and post get together sorting out over the past couple of days.
Today’s extra jobs have been:

  • deep cleaning the downstairs bathroom
  • sorting all the post party recycling
  • cleaning the dresser which had a beer explode on it (the top of the can literally exploded off!)
  • many, many loads of laundry and the resulting ironing
  • decluttering lots of leftover food from the fridge (yum yum)
Peridot1 · 26/08/2025 21:46

Oh bless DD @mumofoneAloneandwell. Lovely day for the beach.

@SpiritOfEdna - how did you lose your map?! A fairly essential item I’d have thought! Hope you stay on the right path!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - sounds busy!

@petalpower - sounds like a great weekend- other than the clearing up afterwards!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/08/2025 07:24

Took dc to the beach for the sunset and a drive after that. Got home, got us all washed, threw a load of beach laundry in/hung up/put in dryer and cleaned most of bathroom (all but tub and mirror). Now scrolling and contemplating eating some ice cream straight out of the carrin. 🤔

Daily Project round 7
Daily Project round 7
Peridot1 · 27/08/2025 10:19

Lovely photos @Mumtobabyhavoc. Definitely have the ice cream!

I actually got a few things off my brain dump list done yesterday - booked my taxis to and from airport, arranged a meeting with decorator about paint colours, messaged electrician, rearranged dental hygiene appointment, booked hair appointment, and pedicure. Also vacuumed kitchen and sitting areas and washed the floors and cleaned the downstairs cloakroom. And did two loads of laundry and changed my bed.

Today’s list:

  • walk - done
  • strip spare bed - done
  • wash bedding
  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • post office/supermarket trip
  • organise someone to come and cut back vegetation along our drive as DH can’t yet - met a nice gardener on Sunday who used to do the gardens either side of us. Our house is an in-fill build on what was a sheep paddock.
  • vacuum and wash dining area floor
  • maybe something in the garden depending on rain

Have a good day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/08/2025 14:17

(I ate the ice cream straight from the carton.) 🤭
