Oh I love your ritual with your Dcat @WinterFrogs . That's really sweet.

Loads to do here as well. Some of which DH has to do, really.

  • DH needs to fix the garden gate lock.
  • DH has to do final patch up of roof - he has put roof sealant on everything we think is leaking and has some roofing rubber to lay down at a few points where the slates are cracked. Hopefully it will hold for a bit.
  • water by hand (thanks hosepipe ban) all our pots

The house looks a total mess as we had a busy week so I need to bring some sort of order to it.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Peridot1 · 09/08/2025 08:56

Morning all.

The week disappeared somewhere. A few social events. One which was a daytime one so the whole day went.

I have done some jobs that needed doing. Took winter duvets to be washed and picked them up yesterday. Did a charity shop drop. And took foil pill packets and Brita filters to recycling. Did supermarket shop. Weeded half the gravel drive.

I have family visiting from Monday so need to get organised. Today’s tasks are laundry - I changed my bed yesterday. Change another bed. Clean kitchen especially under cooker and around dishwasher and clean dishwasher door etc. vacuum and wash downstairs floors. More laundry probably. A very small ironing pile. Dust furniture in hallway and sitting room.

Have a great Saturday all.

autumnangel · 09/08/2025 09:48

Hello, thank you to everyone who has asked after me, I'm doing ok. The house is a mess and I just can't seem to get on top of it. The to do list is a mile long and there's still lots of things floating around in my head that I need to put down on paper. However, today is not the day I'll be sorting any of that as I am taking my niece to a concert. It's a proper bucket list experience that normally I would be ecstatic about it but I can't be bothered.
Anyway...I won't have much time for anything else but I do need to buy a birthday card for my brother and I'd also like to message the local tattoo place to make an appointment.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/08/2025 13:43

Autumn, would you consider getting a cleaner in to help you out? It might be sensible to get a bit of help. Please don't let yourself get overwhelmed with house chores. You must have so much to do and so much on your mind, I can't imagine. I'm glad you popped in here, though. Baby steps. 🩷

autumnangel · 10/08/2025 10:33

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc my lovely SIL has offered to help me out with the house but I can't bear the thought of anyone touching DH's things so I'm going to try and ride it out myself. In the spirit of this thread I am going to concentrate on just one thing at a time. I think I've always been terrified of having nothing to do (even though I am a million miles away from this). I have always wrote lists and lists of things to do because I'm scared to just stop and be with my thoughts but that's maybe exactly what I need to do right now.
Todays task is to tidy the house. Not clean or dust or hoover just tidy - and not throw everything into bags!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2025 19:13

Autumn, I'm so glad you've got family support. 🩷

WinterFrogs · 11/08/2025 06:04

Just sending love @autumnangel ❤️

Got the lawm mown yesterday ( note I didn't say I did it!)

A pile of clothes and extra bedding away yesterday and cleaned the bath. It's not chaos here but it's not visitor friendly either. But it wouldn't take long. Got ahead of myself yesterday by hanging the washing out in the evening. I have some of mum's clothes which she doesn't want 'boil washed' and tumble dried, which the care home are inclined to do.

Typing is improving with a steady 25 words per minute which is faster than when I did it with one finger so I'm counting it as a win.
I'm learning to juggle too. Apparently it's good for the brain and I need all the help I can get!

I hope you all have a good day!

SpiritOfEdna · 11/08/2025 09:20

@autumnangel Flowers the funeral will have taken everything out of you, so take care.

I've had lots of posts I haven't finished last week but the list remains the same ! My car has been to the garage and back again (red engine light) and my purse is much lighter but the issue has returned.... I am so displeased (and fed up) but we go again.
@Mumtobabyhavoc I might ask around for a physio recommendation. My Snowdon walk has been cancelled as 5 people dropped out. We are debating not going now - still got a couple of days to decide.
Today

  • email garage re car
  • the heating element has drooped/dropped in the top oven and is dangerously close to the shelf. So need to research if that just the way it is and if there is an alternative. We've had a few close misses getting fingers burnt! Its been replaced once before for the same issue. Might just buy a toaster
  • I ordered some paint last week, I've had no receipt or delivery timescales so need to chase
  • I took a broken down wardrobe to the tip yesterday, but managed to leave a couple of rogue shelves left behind
  • lol, someone has just put a meeting in my diary for 7:30 tomorrow morning - must remember to put on an alarm reminder
  • must do a to do work list as everything is floating around in my head but not much getting done :-)
  • remove the brackets that were supporting the wardrobes to the wall
  • must remember to connect the printer up - I keep getting reminder emails from HP
That's all for today, a poor little list, but if I get my car sorted that would be a bonus, have a good one, SoE
WinterFrogs · 13/08/2025 05:58

A poor little list @SpiritOfEdna ?? You get so much done!
How old the heating element to sag? Must be a fault as it's happened before!
Have you decided about Snowdonia yet?

I hope everyone is ok 💐 I'm looking at a smeary bedroom window which i cleaned not long ago. Might do something about that today.

Mornings are pulling in. It's was still dark when I woke up just after 5am. I have done wordle and connections already.

I bought a medium sized jacket in cotton traders yesterday. It swamps me! Vanity sizing I think, because I'm really not small! So that must go back. I need to do some weeding in the garden today. The heat has made me a bit lethargic the last few days. I've only done what must be done.

Off to brush the cat!

Hello, I've been spending a lot of time out of the house recently but it's not doing me any good as there lots of things I've been avoiding doing that I should really stay home and deal with so now I'm feeling rather overwhelmed by it all. I haven't dealt with any sadmin at all other than go to the lawyers but today is the day I need to take control. I have booked DH's car in for an MOT today and I'm also going to get a tattoo but other than that I will be home doing things that need to be done. First up is going through DH's bank accounts and writing down all direct debit details. Whilst DH was here he treated me like a princess and he dealt with all the financial things which was great but now I haven't got a clue! I don't know who supplies our electricity or when our home insurance needs renewed etc.
I'll come back later when I've ticked this off the list.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/08/2025 11:00

hello we are very quiet. @WinterFrogs - it's a double oven with a top grill - it's the heating element in the grill which has dropped. We had it replaced about 18 months ago for the same reason, I had assumed it's just poor design as there is nothing to hold it up except where it is fitted at the back of the oven.

Today

  • emptied wardrobe looking for something now I have to put everything back
  • gym this morning and refpilates tonight so need to pick up so need to pick up some new kit at JL for C&C
  • I had to reschedule my garage appointment to today after yesterday's interview massively over ran - maybe that tipped me over the edge yesterday. I now have to reschedule today's appointment because.....drum roll.... interviews
  • cupboard drawers are looking very crumby so they need to be emptied out and hoovered.
  • I saw a dreaded fruit fly today so need to nip that in the bud 😃
  • I need to schedule in 10 hours of training on AI this week - Friday most of my team are out celebrating Independence Day - it might be quiet enough to do it then
  • We have a new tenant in a flat I co-own - it is a tiny student flat. It needs a clean and a paint refresh. The quote for cleaning is extortionate for what is basically three rooms - living room/kitchen diner, bathroom and bedroom so off we go on the merry ground of finding different cleaning quotes.
  • desk is a mess with empty cups, yoghurt pots and cold drink bottle 🙁
  • Find somewhere local to get a haircut (finally)
Right, off to interview someone, have a good day all, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2025 17:08

SoE, shouldn't there be a hook?

WinterFrogs · 14/08/2025 17:17

@autumnangel I highly recommend one small step at a time.
Not all people agree but I find the flylady website useful for overwhelm.
Sending you much love ( and sadly I live very far away from Glasgow or I'd help or at least give you a hug)

OP posts:
WinterFrogs · 14/08/2025 19:41

I meant to do another post but got waylaid!
I hope all of you are well. Another busy day for Edna!
I've lost track of where everyone is at. I'm trying to take my own advice regarding flylady and babysteps but I am falling short.
However, laundry is up to date ( I rarely iron so it doesn't take long) We had a wholesome dinner ( followed by some crisps) bins are empty and I ran the hoover round. I have very good habits around daily swish and swipe in the loo and bathroom so am happy with that. I also polished my black work shoes. And painted my toenails after I read somewhere on MN that nobody wants to see unpainted toes in sandals. I am easily influenced....

What else? 🤔

Early start tomorrow getting mother to an appointment. I have prepared clothing and I know where my keys are. So nothing wild, but on top of things....give or take.

I hope you've all had a good day!

How’s your day been @autumnangel ? Don’t expect too much of yourself at this stage. Even little things ticked off the mental list are achievements.
How long until you go away @SpiritOfEdna ?
My laundry is up to date too @WinterFrogs but the ironing pile is enormous. I don’t know where it all comes from. A job for tomorrow I think.
Today I’ve:

  • had coffee with an old friend who I’d lost touch with for a while
  • picked up posters for my music group from the printers (hour round trip)
  • menu planned for next week and added to supermarket online shop for delivery
  • caught up on admin and replying to messages
  • lots of organising for our big family get together weekend which is coming up (we host about 20-30)
Hope everyone else is ok!
autumnangel · 15/08/2025 10:31

Yesterday I wrote down all DH's direct debits so now I at least know who I need to contact. Today I will phone one of them. I also have an appointment with his workplace to discuss his pension. I think it's going to upset me quite a bit so I'm going to try and get a few things done this morning so I can maybe just go for a walk and chill for a bit afterwards. Tonight I'm going out for a meal with my family. We do this for everyone's birthday so I'm not going to cancel but it'll be the first time without DH there so today will be a pretty rough day.
Yesterday I cleaned the bathroom which has been annoying me for weeks but I just didn't have the mental capacity to do it and now I feel like I'm a bit more together. This morning I have made cakes as it is always a birthday tradition and wrote a list of jobs to do. Number 1 thing is to change DH's phone number to my name as I just can't get rid of it right now. The car failed it's MOT so hopefully that will get sorted and I can get that back today and tick that off the list. I also need to sort out a couple of things to do with a flat DH rented out. I have no idea how to deal with it at all and I'm really hoping things will just fall into place. It was DH's first flat which he raised the deposit for himself when he was 21 and I can't let it go. He charged the tenant much much less than he could have and I don't want to cause any problems for the guy so although it is a bit of a headache I do want to keep it on for now.
Anyway if I get all this done this morning I will be pleased.

Hope everyone is ok

petalpower · 15/08/2025 22:16

You’re doing so well @autumnangel . I hope today has been ok for you. Flowers

autumnangel · 16/08/2025 12:31

Thank you @petalpower yesterday was ok. I met a lovely lady from DH's workplace and we chatted for over an hour, she was ever so kind and made me feel a lot better about things. I got DH's car back from the garage and that was the only thing I managed off my list but that's ok.
Today I'm going to MIL's for a bbq. I love going round there as we just chat about DH which is my favourite (and only!) topic of conversation. Before I go though I must sort out the pile of clean washing (4 washes!) lying on my bedroom floor before it ends up dirty again. I've also got 2 cards to write and post that have been sitting here for over a week and if I don't send them today they will start to lose their meaning so I best not avoid that any longer.
That's my list for today anything else is a bonus.

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday!

WinterFrogs · 16/08/2025 15:30

Lots of love to you @autumnangel ❤️ It must be so difficult 💐

How is everyone? I've had a lovely morning with some fairly new friends- a women's group which is lovely and full of laughter, tears and mutual support.

I am having my traditional Saturday afternoon of reading, underneath a cat. It's become a very nice weekend ritual.

Nothing else planned except to get the washing in and away, and get dinner on.

Best wishes to all ☕️ 🍰

Winter, you sound like you've got things under control. Hope your mum's appt went well. 🙂
Your Saturday with reading and cat and women's group sound very nice. 🩷
Autumn, bbq and chat sound nice and comforting.
🩷
Just scrolled back, Lobelia, is the leak fix holding? I was reminded to ask as is pouring rain here.
SoE, did you end up going to Snowdonia?
How is the walking going Peridot?

I bought a baby barbel of 24lbs to start doing squats and rows again. Been using it almost every day for 2 weeks. I do a set of squats, bent over rows and then overhead press which takes me 2m30s which is how long I put milk in the microwave for to make my latte. I've now got my coffee. 😄
No major tasks to report. I blitzed last night before bed with bleaching and washing towels, vacuuming and steam mopping floors. Extra was steam mopping some baseboards, a closet door and inside/outside the entrance door. Also washed and hung up a load of dc's clothes. Took Havoc to the last day of Play Land yesterday. It was pouring rain, so we had our full rain gear. We managed at least 6 rides and I caved and bought our pic from a roller coaster ride. I also bought Havoc's first candy apple. A few licks of it, baby too, laughter, pics and it's on a plate in the fridge. I know Havoc won't eat it. I think it was $8.45 with my pass discount. 🙄 Stopped for Japanese take-out on the way home as a treat since I was soaked and in no mood to cook. Two Cali rolls, a Dynamite roll, House roll, mixed tempura and seafood udon soup came to $71. I thought that was pricey. Plan for today is to take dc for a big walk. Making burgers and roasted veg for dinner.

autumnangel · 17/08/2025 11:51

@WinterFrogs - your Saturday sounds perfect.
@Mumtobabyhavoc - well done getting your exercises in

The bbq was lovely yesterday, we sat outside and chatted about DH for hours which was really nice. I didn't manage to get to the Post Office but will go tomorrow. I've got a washing out on the line now since it's a glorious day. I've mopped about a bit this morning and now I feel a bit sluggish and sad which is fine but I don't want to feel like this all day so I need to get up and get things done. I've wrote myself a list that I know I won't complete, I've put it in order though of priorities rather than just choosing the things I want to do and leaving the rest. On the list today:

  • Wash my hair
  • Text DH's uncle
  • Text DH's tenant
  • Write cards
  • Email letting agency
  • Empty the bags I've filled over the last few weeks - it's just clutter that needs to be put away, even if it gets shoved in the right drawer it'll be better than how things currently are.

I've got my eye on a beautiful necklace with DH's initial, it's not expensive and I've told myself I can buy it today if I complete my list. I'm giving myself until 4pm then I'm going to go to the phone shop and sort DH's contract then I'm meeting SIL to go to the spiritualist church this evening.

Thank you so much to all of you for welcoming me here and allowing me to get some of my thoughts down, you will never know how much this is helping me ❤

WinterFrogs · 17/08/2025 12:39

You are very welcome here @autumnangel We've often commented on the coffee house feel of this thread
Loving your post @Mumtobabyhavoc You do make me smile!
I'm being lazy again! I do have some work to do this afternoon but I'm keen to finish my book ( which is an early Peter James for anyone interested, and it has quite a Stephen King feel)
Yesterday's washing is still on the line 😳

I intend to get my act together and get clothing and menus prepared for the week.

I hope you are all enjoying summer sunshine ☀️

I am sitting in front of the Tv in pyjamas watching some Swedish cop thing with subtitles. SpiritDoggo is sparko next to me. Been to the beach this morning to do a Pilates/yoga session. They added on a sound bath session at the end which I couldn’t wait to end 🤣 I need to hoover up the sand the SpiritDoggo has shed since we got back.
My trip is a week tomorrow 😂 I’m not ready but I guess all I need to do is put one foot in front of the other.
I need a list otherwise I shall stay like this all day!

  • hoover sand
  • mini shop at MandS
  • dry bedding and make bed
  • pray SpiritDoggo doesn’t want another walk 🙏🙏
Where has the weekend gone? SoE
petalpower · 17/08/2025 17:02

I’m never sure about sound baths @SpiritOfEdna . I haven’t tried one but am not sure it’s my thing.
Chez Petal has been the house of pestilence this week - one by one we’ve all come down with the same cold. I was last to get it. Should have been staying with friends for the weekend but we cancelled as I didn’t want to pass on the germs so I’ve had a bit more time at home than I expected. I’ve cleaned out the fridge, posted a birthday card to my sister in law and done a bit of admin today. It’s not very sunny here @WinterFrogs - really overcast now and not that warm. Your bbq sounds lovely @autumnangel and how nice that your were able to chat about your DH.

Peridot1 · 18/08/2025 10:42

Hello all.

@autumnangel - glad you feel the thread is helping. It is a lovely corner of MN. A necklace with your DH’s initial is a lovely idea.

I’m just going to wave at everyone else and say I have read posts and you are all doing really well and getting lots done. Even when full of cold @petalpower.

I have just about recovered from having my sister and BIL and niece and nephew here last week. They left on Saturday. Lovely to have them here as always but it’s busy and we always drink too much. We had some lovely evenings in the garden with the fire pit lit and we had some nice meals out and went up to London and did a boat trip to Greenwich.

House is in a bit of a state so task today is to do the kitchen which needs a good clean, wash floors in kitchen and dining area and do lots of laundry. My ironing pile is building up again too so might add in a bit of that. And change a bed. And read my book for at least 30 minutes.

I’m quite pleased that I managed to keep my walks going each morning when sis etc was here. Even the mornings when I really didn’t feel like it I managed at least 20 minutes. Slightly dreading getting on the scales though!

Have a great day all.
