I always follow this thread although I rarely post, but it's nice to hear about the small wins when everything feels very overwhelming. My project for Sunday - in addition to 94 loads of post-holiday laundry - was to put back the string of solar lights on our balcony, which we had to take off last year when the freeholder was repainting it. Unfortunately I think the months they spent in a plastic bag on the kitchen windowsill have buggered them up as they didn't light up last night, but they are only a few quid on Amazon so I think I'll replace them as it does make the place look a bit more cheerful.

Actually, another project from yesterday was to clean the washing machine filter for the first time ever in...a while. Loads of water gushed out as I had just done a load Hmm and it was pretty gross but much easier to clean than I had expected. Huge difference straight away as the unpleasant smell which always hung around the machine has vanished Blush

Today's project has been to buy a kintsugi kit so I can repair a mug my friend gave me for my birthday which took a nosedive out of the cupboard a couple of weeks ago. I also have a favourite glass that's broken, but not sure if I can use the kit on that.

petalpower · 18/08/2025 19:56

Your time with your family sounds lovely @Peridot1 !
Welcome @SydneyCarton !
My cold is still lingering but today I’ve been for a routine blood test and have been out with my DD to do a trial drive to her uni placement location which starts in a couple if weeks - she’s not a very confident driver but did brilliantly today. Also managed a trip to JL to spend my birthday voucher and popped into Waitrose to buy some nice food as DH is away for a few days and it’s just me and DD.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/08/2025 20:23

@SydneyCarton I had to look up kintsugi. Sounds interesting! You will have to post before/after pics.
Petal, how are you feeling with dd going to uni?
Peridot, glad you had a nice visit. Sounds line you need to recover now! 😂

Nothing to report here except maintaining the basics. Still need to finish painting kitchen. 🙄 And a living room wall. 🙄🙄
Will start packing up some blankets and onesies for donation and put a few things in the dc's bins for keeping.
Must take a serious look at fall activities registration. I fear I am already late. 🤦‍♀️

petalpower · 18/08/2025 20:56

Thank you for asking about DD @Mumtobabyhavoc - she’s already been away to uni for her undergraduate degree (3years) and has then been back living at home working and going travelling. She’s now doing a 2 year masters at a more local uni and is living at home to save money. Her masters includes various placements which are very specific to her course. I’m very proud of how hard she has worked to get to this point and the career she has chosen to pursue.

How awesome Petal! Compmeting one degree is an achievement, but to continue is amazing! 👏

(I love school, btw). 🤓

Peridot1 · 19/08/2025 11:45

Good luck to DD @petalpower. It will be nice for you to have her around.

@SydneyCarton - I’ve never cleaned the washing machine filter. Might need to add it to the list! The detergent drawer needs doing too. And the utility room floor needs a good wash so maybe I’ll get two jobs done at once!

Well I didn’t get the kitchen cleaned yesterday. Did a bedroom instead. Changed bed, aired, dusted, vacuumed. Did quite a bit of laundry. Messaged someone about putting in an aircon/heating unit in the garden room we are putting in which will be a small home gym.

Today -

  • wash bedding from yesterday - done
  • DH laundry - on
  • dishwasher - dine
  • cancel chiropractor appointment- done
  • walk - done
  • clean kitchen - surfaces, sinks, cooker top
  • drive DH around the village as local MP is coming to see a few things and meet people and he can’t manage the walks. And no he still hasn’t been to a doctor. He managed to fall last week and buggered up the other knee. 🙄 He is beyond stubborn and frustrating.

My other plan for today is to start researching a week away for me next month. Needs to fit in between slab being laid for garden room and painting starting in kitchen/dining area on 22nd.

Have a good day all.

Aria999 · 19/08/2025 15:22

Hello all, sorry for long radio silence. Travel followed by a stinking cold that I am only just shaking off a week later.

@SydneyCarton I am also in the 94 loads of post trip laundry stage.

@autumnangel hugs, you are doing so well. A few small things at a time is a good approach.

got our letter from the IRS approving charity status for the school parents organization today, woop!

Kids both have a week off school and it's too hot to do anything outdoors (that's my excuse anyway) so there will be a lot of telly watching and general bouncing off the walls. DD starts kindergarten (aka P1) next week 🥰

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2025 18:30

Woke up. Fed baby. Got dc sorted bathroom etc. Stripped bed and put bedding in wash. Made oatmeal for everyone. Fed baby a brioche bun with butter and jam first. (No judgment. Low weight) Fed baby oatmeal. Folded and put away yesterday's washing. Put sheets in dryer and a load of clothes on to wash. Put last 4 croissants in oven to bake. Fed baby. Checked croissants. Gave milk and watermelon for Havoc. Gave baby milk - first time would drink it!!! Checked croissants. Burnt. Threw away. 🤬 Tidied kitchen. Wiped microwave, side of fridge, front of a cupboard, counters, floor. Drinking shake. Watching pvr'd chat show. Completed a survey. Emailed trying to track down a custom hoody of Havoc's lost yesterday. 🙄

To do: baby to Pediatrician in an hour.

Last night:
washed floors after Havoc did both #1 and #2 on the floor despite me saying THREE TIMES to go to the toilet. 🤬
cleaned bathroom

Aria, nice to see you back. ☺️ How are you feeling with dc going to kindergarten?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2025 18:34

Strangely, my post is showing in giant and bold font. 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2025 18:42

Oh, also cleaned out a kitchen cupboard last night which was very satisfying. Had a lot of expired things in there. I think I will throw away some old dishes today.

WinterFrogs · 19/08/2025 19:08

Once again, with feeling, @Mumtobabyhavoc 😆

Hello everyone! Good to catch up with you all 😊

I've had a productive day! Some of it on the phone, on hold, but achieved what I set out to do.

I cleaned kitchen and bathroom windowsills.

I have managed to accumulate piles of papers so that's been filed or shredded.

Took brother to an appointment ( and left him there - he's a big boy) Bought my mother some bamboo socks because she can only tolerate very soft ones.

Living the high life 😎

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2025 20:47

Winter, 😂. Ikr?! Shredding is another satisfying job. 🩷
Mumofone, glad to see you pop in Saw you on another thread and wondered if it was you. Glad you are having a good summer. ☺️
Peridot, it's amazing how days fly by with the things we do.

Baby's appt went well. Progressing on growth chart at own rate of taller and skinnier than most.

Peridot1 · 19/08/2025 21:51

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I think your day deserved bold and large font!

@mumofoneAloneandwell - welcome back. And @Aria999!

@mumofoneAloneandwell - your comment about not being thinner reminds me of going to see MIL’s mum (aged 100 or so but totally with it) and her comment to me was “oh hello lovely- you haven’t lost any weight - did you mean to?” 😃. MIL was mortified!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 19/08/2025 22:08

I'm back! I'm still very much on the fence about MN and there are many things about it that make me properly angry. But I was reading through this thread and was reminded how nice everyone is on it and supportive in difficult times and decided to give it another go.

@autumnangel I am so sorry you are going through this and I can't even begin to imagine. It is good to hear you have a close relationship with your DH's family and can share in the happy memories.

I am mostly here for the virtual hugs - the past two months have been HARD with multiple medical emergencies with the in laws, who are four hours away, and H away to see to them most of the time (he is an only child, as are they). Most holidays and work trips cancelled though H managed to be around for D's end of year dance show and her birthday party. Luckily my home country is a holiday destination type of place so I managed a few days of vacation when visiting my parents. We are sincerely hoping that we can get PILs into a care home nearby in the next couple of weeks (they can come together - one has poor physical health, the other dementia). It is, as most of you are sadly only too aware, a more sudden change than anyone would have liked but it is the best course of action for keeping them safe and looked after especially in light of FIL's limited life expectancy and MIL's mental state.

I have been calling in ALL the favours from my friends in these months of juggling everything, though my work has really suffered.

Anyway. Sorry for the mega long post. Thanks for all still being there 💐

Aria999 · 19/08/2025 23:12

Wow @SingleThreadJoiner2 that sounds very intense and not very sustainable. Hope you can sort out a nearby retirement home. My MIL is also seriously losing it with dementia and we feel a bit guilty it falls so much on DH brothers and their wives who are nearby. Not sure what will happen next.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/08/2025 00:25

Oh, God Peridot! Let's chalk that comment up to deme tia, shall we? 🤨🤦‍♀️
Single, welcome back. Virtual hug from me. 🩷

Spent last hour or so at spray park with dc. Got bloody bitten by mosquitoes. One on my ear (ffs!) and five on my legs. I'm already covered with 9 from last Thurs night. 🤬🤬🤬

Peridot1 · 20/08/2025 09:27

Welcome back @SingleThreadJoiner2. Sounds like a very stressful time. I hope you can move them into a home close to you. Definitely sounds like the sensible option.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I’ve been bitten loads this year which I never get in the UK usually. I saw someone recommend a battery operated zapper thingie (technical term!) that kills the itch in the bites and I spotted it in Costco and got one and it’s been great. It’s by Beurer.

petalpower · 20/08/2025 17:17

Nice to see you @mumofoneAloneandwell . Glad you are having a good summer.
Loved your big, bold post @Mumtobabyhavoc !
Good to see you again too @Aria999 .
I’m so glad you came back @SingleThreadJoiner2 . Your life sounds exactly like mine was last year. Elderly parents several hours away, dementia in the mix, cancelling holidays etc. My dad and stepmother both have dementia (different types). They both moved into care homes last year, initially the same one then different ones when it became clear the first one wasn’t set up to cope with my dad’s needs. The relief of knowing they were both safe and well cared for when they were finally in the care homes was huge.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/08/2025 22:58

Oh, Peridot I think I saw that in Costco last night! I'll check it out next shop. I'm not convinced two of the bites are mozzies... I'm thinking black fly for one and tick for the other particularly as the one is much redder and larger today. 😳
I'm a bit paranoid, too, I think as I have had a tick bite that carried lime and had the bullseye rash and striations up and down my leg.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/08/2025 23:51

Lyme, not lime. 🙄 Big difference. 😂

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 21/08/2025 03:55

Hello all- just dropping in- we went for our summer holiday to australia and I simply could not get into wife here. Now at a pub and managed to get in. I may not post properly for a week or so but wanted to say I have noit vanished. :) see you soon!

Love to you all.xx

WinterFrogs · 21/08/2025 06:20

Hello! All the hugs here for those who need them ☕️ 🍰
Welcome back everyone, with or without new user names. I too get overwhelmed with MN sometimes but this is a very peaceful corner.
@SydneyCarton I remember you 👋
No time to get involved here this morning. Just waiting for painkillers to kick in from the tweaked back I did on Monday and then off out.
About to put a wash on, must book vet for cat's vaccination and annual check up.
A quick sweep round to safety check the house for littlies coming later.
A daily project thing 🤔 Give the microwave a clean I think, and get rid of some crumbs that accumulated under it.
Bye for now. Lovely to 'see' you all!

Hi everyone

Woke up at half four this morning! Heard actual birdsong, which was lovely
Took dd's mattress to the car to be taken to the dump. Saving to buy her a new bigger bed, she sleeps in with me for now

Need to vacuum the stairs, deep clean the kitchen and bathroom

Then take dd out somewhere to tire her out - fingers crossed for an early night 🥱

I'm catching up on the thread, i'm currently in June! If you see a like from back then, it's just me 🤭

@WinterFrogs sorry to see that your brother was unwell, hope he is okay now 🥺 x

Have a good day all xxx

SydneyCarton · 21/08/2025 08:19

Transferred my work stuff to a new backpack, which I’ve had hanging around for a while. One of the straps on the old one is really starting to fray so I thought I’d better do it now before everything went crashing down on the commute!

Spent two hours (!) going through the DCs bedroom last night and filled five carrier bags with clothes. Two for trying to sell on Vinted (four down already!), one for the charity shop, one for recycling and one for the PTA second hand uniform shop. Still need to get them out of the house which is always the hardest part…..
