Morning mumsnet 💐 has you can tell im bored today.
As title says do you believe in any of it.
Afterlife.
Past lifes.
Next life.
I was raised to think that we live we die we are reborn in the next life.
What we do in this life will follow us to the next.
As an adult i dont believe this but its nice to think so.

No. It's nonsense. Sorry!

pearbottomjeans · 07/02/2025 11:52

I think no one will know for sure so it’s fun to muse.

Personally I contradict myself because

  1. I think that when you die, it’s probably like it was before you were born - pure nothingness

  2. I am sure DS2 has been here before, he’s an old soul with funny stories from his past life

  3. I am a brand new soul to this earth, and WISH I was like my old-soul friends. Which is SUCH an infuriatingly babyish new-soul thing to say!

joysexreno · 07/02/2025 11:53

I don't believe in any of it, but wish there were more! And am interested in knowing what others think.

I wish it were true (and I’m a big fan of the Good Place as a result) but no, I can’t say I truly believe.

VegLedge · 07/02/2025 12:02

I don’t think I believe in past lives because nobody (most) can remember them, so I can’t see a purpose or reason for that to be a thing.

I think the afterlife exists though. I have seen ghosts. I think some people are more sensitive to seeing them than others (sixth sense?). I think most spirits go elsewhere ( but not in a heaven/hell sense), and I think some get stuck here for whatever reason which is why only a few are seen.

VenusClapTrap · 07/02/2025 12:06

I believe in reincarnation and past lives. I can’t offer any proof or any good reasons, beyond having a strong gut feeling that some people I know have been here before.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 07/02/2025 12:07

Don't believe in any of it. Every bit as much nonsense as tooth fairies, leprechauns, and the late Queen Elizabeth being a shape-shifting lizard.

Some people like to believe though.

I don't believe in any of it but I also think the brain is more complex and capable of things that we don't understand yet.

I'm kinda there with the possibility of inherited memory to explain "past lives". Birds and other creatures remember stuff (spawning grounds etc) that are otherwise impossible for them to know/have experience of, so I'm on board with the thought that as beings with advanced brains, we might also inherit some memories from past generations.

ItGhoul · 07/02/2025 12:17

I don’t believe in any of it.

AuntieMarys · 07/02/2025 12:18

No. Don't believe any of it or indeed anything woo

Eyesopenwideawake · 07/02/2025 12:24

Nope. You've got one life, live it the best way you can.

jotex · 07/02/2025 13:21

I was raised Catholic, so like to let the idea of heaven comfort me, but I try not to think too much into it..

user7421908523 · 07/02/2025 13:26

I do sometimes wonder if we are here until we have learnt something or been the lesson for someone else.
It’d explain why some of us live till a great age and others die so young. Not the slightest afraid of dying - I think it'll be like being asleep and thats one of my favourite pastimes!

I’ve been in a coma and I think if there really isn’t anything beyond that’s probably what death is like - and that was complete nothingness. One minute I was awake, the next I was being woken up (though obviously there will be no waking up when we are dead) I had no concept of any time passing during the coma or all of the tests that had been run on me. It was like it hadn’t happened. And I suppose that’s what death will be like - like our life never happened. Sobering thought.

plinkyblonk · 07/02/2025 18:36

I would love to think there is something more to it all, and hope there is.

zigzaggiraffe · 07/02/2025 18:40

I've just had an operation and I was put sleep obviously but for me during that time there was just nothing and if I hadn't been brought round then I believe that's all it would have been, a complete nothing with no awareness of anything ever again.
A bit like before we were born. It also felt like no time passed while I was under, like it just all stopped.

Christmasbear1 · 07/02/2025 18:46

Yes as Hindus we believe in reincarnation

This is really interesting, I've never thought of this before but I like this idea.

Suntob · 07/02/2025 19:08

I believe in all three…honestly ,if anyone can accept a belief in god, I don’t see why believing in past lives or an afterlife is anything special! It makes far more sense to me that our spirits need to come back and learn some more life lessons rather than head straight for the afterlife.

IWanderedLonely · 07/02/2025 19:21

Yes I believe in it.

BadSil · 07/02/2025 19:30

I believe we are in a simulation and repeat our lives over again until we win the game (reach enlightenment). 😁

I don't really believe that. I am agnostic and curious and love hearing theories but I have never been told anything that I have "faith" in.

AlteredStater · 07/02/2025 19:46

No past lives. Afterlife, yes. I'm a Christian so believe in life after death.

Butterflies complete migration on a sort of relay race basis over 6 or so generations, how the hell they die and then the next generation know which way they are going is a complete mystery, I can't even find my way around the local town without a sat nav.

shortoedtreecreeper · 07/02/2025 19:56

I believe that it's possibly all

planned before hand.
I know I dreamed of a something that happened to me 20.years later. It was a recurring dream I used to jave as a child..So.either it was predestined, or I had been there before. It was something I.found at a certain place, and saw there.Sorry don't want tosay more.
It was a very creepy experience.
