Morning mumsnet 💐 has you can tell im bored today.
As title says do you believe in any of it.
Afterlife.
Past lifes.
Next life.
I was raised to think that we live we die we are reborn in the next life.
What we do in this life will follow us to the next.
As an adult i dont believe this but its nice to think so.

Some people like to believe though.

Some people like to believe the world is flat. It ain’t!

Well flat earthers are nuts and i dont believe them or that the world is flat.
Also this thread is not about that.

I believe in generational trauma.

As for ghosts, I think it’s us having glimpses into the past, rather than them coming back.

But, who knows…

No, I don't. But a part of me wishes I could. I'd like to think I'd have a next life.

But I'm afraid it's bollocks. Our "souls" are just the electrical pulses of the brain.

VenusStarr · 07/02/2025 20:09

My dad is on end of life care and he believes in rebirth. It is giving him comfort and I'm glad he has something that brings him peace at the end of his life.

shortoedtreecreeper · 07/02/2025 19:56

I believe that it's possibly all

planned before hand.
I know I dreamed of a something that happened to me 20.years later. It was a recurring dream I used to jave as a child..So.either it was predestined, or I had been there before. It was something I.found at a certain place, and saw there.Sorry don't want tosay more.
It was a very creepy experience.

This is interesting. Can you tell us more? How did you feel when the thing that you'd dreamed so many times came to pass?

MarkingBad · 07/02/2025 20:09

If life is energy and in physics energy can neither be created or destroyed the possibility of an afterlife is very real. We don't know what form it takes though.

I do believe we continue on in some way, I don't believe it is a life lessons carried on tied to desire and suffering and eventally nothingness though. I could be on board with the idea that we are the universe experincing itself in various ways. But being a snake in the next life if we are arseholes in this one is to have a superior attitude over other species, what's wrong with being a snake, they have their role in the environment too.

I have met people I feel I have known all my life and been places I have never been and yet felt I knew. I don't dismiss it although I understand others don't feel that way. It's a fascinating subject.

Well I went to peel wall paper off a wall to help someone.Under the wall paper was a painted picture of something I used to dream of as a kid.I was some how involved in the picture it was very specific. There was a child dressed a certain way in this picture.Sorry I know it sounds like bo....This did happen to me, I don't take drugs.I felt very creeped out, I had a recurring dream of this picture .When I was younger I sometimes dreamed of places before I got there and situations.
This doesn't happen to me anymore.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 07/02/2025 20:20

I would like it to be so for the sake of some very sweet people I have known who didn't really get a fair crack of the whip in their lifetime but obviously I can't wish it into existence. Many people like to think they know it is childish nonsense because being a debunker is seen as the smarter stance these days. But, really, who knows for sure?

LionalRichTea · 07/02/2025 20:28

I am still on the fence and a scientist so don't really think there is anything, however, the comments about children who are "old souls" is interesting- my Dad died before I had my two sons and one of them is very, very like him in personality and other traits- it makes me chuckle, when he was really little some have joked that "he's been here before" 🤣

Eightdayz · 07/02/2025 20:35

It's a nice idea. And makes for great stories. But that's all they are. An ancient idea by religion to control the masses. Nonsense!

Don't even get me started on ghosts. The very idea of them breaks several of the unbreakable rules of the universe.

Chuchoter · 07/02/2025 20:56

Reincarnation is the belief that a person's soul or consciousness is reborn into a new body after death.
The soul remains the same, but takes on a new physical form and a person's actions in previous lives determine their future existence.

The problem I have in believing that is there would have to be an entity who determines what is a good or bad action.

God?

How does that work when different cultures have different beliefs about some things that are right or wrong, good or bad?

As much as I would like to believe I could come back as someone else, I just can't believe it.

On the other hand I have on quite a few occasions experienced a strong De ja vu and have had instant gut reactions (good and bad) to people I have just met.

Have I really been to those places before? Have I really met that person before?

Cynic17 · 07/02/2025 20:57

No.
No.
And no.
Nothing before we're born and nothing after we die.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 07/02/2025 20:58

Read a book years ago called 'Past Lives Future Lives' I think it was called by Jenny Cockell (?). Was a fascinating read whether or not you belive.

LostittoBostik · 07/02/2025 21:05

@shortoedtreecreeper That's fascinating. I don't believe in part/future lives or an afterlife in the religious sense, but also know that we do not really understand time.
Our human understanding of it doesn't reflect the reality of time as a physical entity (for example, we know that it bends - but to our human brains, wtf does that mean).
So the linear way we (usually) experience things is very limited.

I2amonlyhereforTheBeer · 07/02/2025 21:07

I really don't want to be reborn. The thought of coming back as someone else without my lovely DH from former life is horrifying. Also, I'm kind of done with people so not that mad about being thrown back in the mix again.

zigzaggiraffe · 07/02/2025 21:09

As Rodney puts it, if there is such thing as reincarnation knowing my luck I'd come back as me!

I have a friend who believes that a person's soul or consciousness is reborn into a new body after death.

But we have population growth, so where do all the extra souls come from? And if the population were to decline, where would they go?

It's all complete nonsense of course.

Icanflyhigh · 07/02/2025 21:22

I'll tell you next week! I'm quietly a sceptical believer.

A medium who is a friend of a friend has requested to read for me next week - I've never met this person, we have no connection in real life, just the one mutual friend.

I'm curious to know what she wants to tell me.

She knew me by my name and she described me to my friend - I have some blatant characteristics which can't be confused with someone else of the same name.

I'll come back and let you know!

It's incredible the amount of disbelievers in this thread. I'm assuming if you don't believe in afterlife then you also don't believe in a god. Look how complex a human body is, the heart the brain, the way a human is created in the womb, nature, etc, you really think that came into existence from nothing?

Cars and houses don't just appear, they have to be made by man, so why would something with life not require a creator.

Yes, women made everyone. Amazing, awesome women.

The creator was the Big Bang. Countless atoms, molecules, gases appearing, then a planet and water and a tiny thing that turned into a fish and, eventually, a human. Our DNA can be traced back to fish. We can't find life on other planets so far because the conditions are inhospitable to life as we know it. If we could find intelligent life on another planet, there is no guarantee they have any concept of God. My cat didn't either.

So what caused the big bang. What was there before the big bang? What is the universe expanded into?

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but I don't believe that something ethereal that looked like a man (eons before men existed) caused it. If God is a feature or an element like water, thunder, mountains, air etc, then that makes more sense to me. Also, if you look at images from the James Webb Space Telescope, you're looking at dying stars etc that happened billions of years ago. I think it's more about time than death or afterlife.

JudgeBread · 07/02/2025 22:21

God I bloody hope not, once has been more than enough.
