Morning mumsnet 💐 has you can tell im bored today.
As title says do you believe in any of it.
Afterlife.
Past lifes.
Next life.
I was raised to think that we live we die we are reborn in the next life.
What we do in this life will follow us to the next.
As an adult i dont believe this but its nice to think so.

My dad is on end of life care and he believes in rebirth. It is giving him comfort and I'm glad he has something that brings him peace at the end of his life.

It wouldn't give me peace, quite the reverse. Once is plenty for me and I've no desire to trudge through it again.

My dad has faced a lot of adversity, discrimination and judgement in his life and I'm glad he's not bitter and can see there is beauty in life.

He has hope in his own life on this earth coming to an end and I don't think that's a terrible thing.

Even facing his own death, he can show and feel compassion. Which is more than can be said for some.

Perhaps when you're weeks away from death, you'll feel differently.

Elissaisnotmyname · 07/02/2025 22:34

I definitely believe in reincarnation and have visited places that seem familiar to me. Years ago I visited Jersey and I knew exactly where to go even though I had never been there before. I gave directions to an old windmill which had been turned into a pub. It really freaked me out because I recognised so many places. This was before the internet so had not googled any places before visiting.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but I don't believe that something ethereal that looked like a man (eons before men existed) caused it. If God is a feature or an element like water, thunder, mountains, air etc, then that makes more sense to me. Also, if you look at images from the James Webb Space Telescope, you're looking at dying stars etc that happened billions of years ago. I think it's more about time than death or afterlife.

I agree with you that there isn't a bearded old guy waving a magic wand. My agnosticism means I don't believe that we can ever know the origins of reality and life as we know it. I do find it fascinating that due to the structure and design of our eyes, ears, brains etc we can only perceived certain colours, sounds, and things. Which makes me wonder what the world REALLY looks like and if there could be other beings or entities among us that we can not perceive. I also think the theory that our brain is a "filter" of information and doesn't "create" information is fascinating. And yes.... Time is utterly mind boggling.

BadSil · 07/02/2025 22:52

I promise I'm not a student at a house party who's had their first joint even if that last post made it seem that way! 🤣

We are Muslims and we believe that there's an after life where there'll be heaven and hell.

When you say "we believe", do YOU actually believe in heaven and hell or do you mean you are taught that?

Minnie59 · 07/02/2025 23:06

We do believe fully because it's there in the Quran, the holy words of God.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 07/02/2025 23:16

Yes and no.

Everything that makes us has existed for billions of years and possibly some parts since the big bang. When we die the elements that make us will go on to form other things.
In this sense, we re enternal. We have always existed, we will always exist.

Was I once cleopatra? No.

Ferrazzuoli · 07/02/2025 23:17

I don't believe in any of these personally.

I'll tell you next week! I'm quietly a sceptical believer.

A medium who is a friend of a friend has requested to read for me next week - I've never met this person, we have no connection in real life, just the one mutual friend.

I'm curious to know what she wants to tell me.

She knew me by my name and she described me to my friend - I have some blatant characteristics which can't be confused with someone else of the same name.

I'll come back and let you know!

Are these characteristics not quite easily decipherable via an afternoon's internet research - the type you'd do on someone before/after going on a promising date?

This woman is a charlatan.

That, or the obvious explanation is more likely to be the mutual friend than Madame Zerelda’s crystal ball.

Some people like to believe though.

You can believe what you want as long as it doesn't impact on me.

Well obviously not. I was Cleopatra.

Minnie59 · 07/02/2025 23:41

I truly believe that there's hell and heaven after death.

Ubugly · 07/02/2025 23:50

What happens in heaven etc?

if you been married and say lost 2 husbands you loved, are they both waiting for you?

if you die as a baby do you stay a baby or old or disabled?

are the Neanderthals and everyone else there?

FlatErica · 07/02/2025 23:53

No, it's all made up.

FlatErica · 07/02/2025 23:54

No, I was Cleopatra!

It's incredible the amount of disbelievers in this thread. I'm assuming if you don't believe in afterlife then you also don't believe in a god. Look how complex a human body is, the heart the brain, the way a human is created in the womb, nature, etc, you really think that came into existence from nothing?

Cars and houses don't just appear, they have to be made by man, so why would something with life not require a creator.

You're not a fan of science and evidence then?

SophieGee · 08/02/2025 03:01

If there is an afterlife, I need WiFi.

Also, do you get a chance to go out out in the afterlife as a ghost? That would be good. I’ve got a few people I wouldn’t mind spooking. Or is it like in Ghosts, where you wait to be ‘sucked off’?

HoppingPavlova · 08/02/2025 03:52

I used to be open to past lives, but it seems the vast majority of people who claim to know about them are all Cleopatra, Joan of Arc or Napoleon or similar. You very rarely hear people say they recall they were a shitkicker peasant named Ned who died of a tooth infection aged 17, or similar. Instead we seem to have a thousand Cleopatra’s, so …..

shortoedtreecreeper · 08/02/2025 03:59

Wanted to say my father also experienced something similar, he dreamed as a child of a building, that only existed 20 to 25 years after he was dreaming about it. The buildingg being a landmark near where we lived.Yes I wish I understood physics a bit more and these ideas about time.
I also find it hard to believe in past, lives. How would say my dog qualify in buddhism or Hinduism to be born in a better life?
He is very sweet probably a better being than me and who decides who is good enough?
I'd like to believe in one of these religions by zhe way.
I also think though sometimes we have less choice than we think we do.

Do you just blindly believe, or do you think we all know deep down ?
