Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 19:21

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

People Back Driver Who Refused To Let Plus-Size Woman In His Car As She Sues Lyft: “Common Sense”

“I've been in cars smaller than that ... It hurt my feelings,” said the woman after the Lyft driver refused to let her enter his Mercedes-Benz.

I agree. She’s not just a bit overweight.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 29/01/2025 19:27

Nah sorry america is full of big people, he saw an opportunity to be nasty and took it

The tires will not collapse 🙄

If she was wearing black and covered up her stomach, she'd look like a typical American

AwaitingFreedom · 29/01/2025 19:45

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights has revealed on its website that they have the “authority” to “accept complaints based on unlawful consideration of religion, race, color, national origin, arrest record, genetic information, sex, age, height, weight, marital status and disability.”

Arrest record... 😳

Generalising much??

fanaticalfairy · 29/01/2025 19:55

Omg she's 35 stone. Fucking hell.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 29/01/2025 19:22

I agree. She’s not just a bit overweight.

She weighs the same as 3 entire people 😱

Gatekeeper · 29/01/2025 19:56

Bloody hell, she's huge!

howsthehair · 29/01/2025 19:58

But the car can handle the weight of 3 people surely?

But it’s the distribution. 500lbs on a seat on one side is going to affect the car.

Lovelysummerdays · 29/01/2025 20:00

I’m not convinced my seat belts have that much in them. I think lyft like Uber has self employed drivers with their own cars so they are responsible for the maintenance etc. I think they should be able to decline a passenger for whatever reason tbh.

Mingenious · 29/01/2025 20:01

i’m not sure I’d want her in my car either tbh. That’s like the weight of 3 people on one seat.

howsthehair · 29/01/2025 20:01

@Blue278 you're right, I'm very tired and only realised after I'd posted.

The car sounds like it’s on its last legs

gamerchick · 29/01/2025 20:03

He didn't refuse. He suggested she would be more comfortable in a bigger car, let her try and get in his and she didn't fit. She deliberately ordered something she knew she wouldn't fit in.

Ineffable23 · 29/01/2025 20:04

Blue278 · 29/01/2025 19:59

I have a friend who's 16-17 stone. Now that weight is not a problem, I've weighed nearly 14, but she also used to get into the car by just sort of releasing her muscles and dropping into the seat, instead of lowering herself using her core and thigh muscles. Even at that weight you could feel the suspension being fed up. So I agree that weigh distribution could be a serious risk to the car with a person who's more than double that weight.

Edited for typo.

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 20:04

Lol, hurts her feelings. What about his suspension?

Some people drive older cars! even newer cars aren’t designed to have the weight of 3
people on one wheel.

Imagine sitting next to her on a plane 😬

Justcallmebebes · 29/01/2025 20:05

Sorry, but I'm with the driver on this one and no way would I have her in my car

rainythursdayontheavenue · 29/01/2025 20:05

Bloody hell, I wouldn't have let her get in my car either. That's not plus size, that's super morbidly obese.

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 20:06

howsthehair · 29/01/2025 19:58

This is like the regular threads on here about heavy people sitting on sofas, a sofa can handle 3 people, but not in one seat space, so someone weighing 30 stone is likely to damage a sofa that wouldnt be as damaged by 3 people weighing 10 stone each sitting on it

BobbiJo · 29/01/2025 20:07

I used to drive a Smart car.

... I'm glad she didn't ask me for a lift..

greencrab · 29/01/2025 20:08

I think driver had right to decline, probably wasn't in his best interest to be honest. He didn't want the wear and tear ot possible damage to his car which is his livelihood.

I don't know the weight and size seat belts are tested to but if there was an accident would she be safely restrained? Or risk harming or killing the driver as if she was unrestrained?

Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 20:08

rainythursdayontheavenue · 29/01/2025 20:05

It seems to be a thing with certain overweight influencers. They take pride on being the weight they are (fair to them!), but they then expect the world to cater to them, such as bigger airline seats or at least a free second seat.

I even read a story once, where a woman complained because a nurse got people to help turn her. She was morbidly obese and the nurse obviously didn’t want to risk injury to herself!

I've a 19 year old mini cooper. When I picked up son and friends from somewhere all skinny so say 30 stone. My poor car would feel it.

My rugby prop forward son, when he gets in it drops.

I have sat next to someone really overweight on a plane. It was so uncomfortable, they were in the middle seat and I was squished into window as they bulged under and over the arm rest. Flight was full so I was just stuck there. Really long flight too from Sydney to LA.
