A lyft driver refuses a plus size woman in his car

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

People Back Driver Who Refused To Let Plus-Size Woman In His Car As She Sues Lyft: “Common Sense”

“I've been in cars smaller than that ... It hurt my feelings,” said the woman after the Lyft driver refused to let her enter his Mercedes-Benz.

What a horrible thread. I'm not expressing an opinion regarding the Lyft situation but some of you are not even attempting to disguise your disgust of overweight people. Have a think about the effect that might have on some people who are reading this thread.

I'd like to echo this

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 29/01/2025 19:27

Nah sorry america is full of big people, he saw an opportunity to be nasty and took it

The tires will not collapse 🙄

If she was wearing black and covered up her stomach, she'd look like a typical American

What a very rude comment.

The irony of you saying HE said something nasty, and then coming out with THAT!

I wouldn't have let her into my car either.

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/01/2025 20:33

VotingForYourself · 29/01/2025 20:29

Because she's used standard size before presumably

Presumably? That's an assumption on your part.

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 20:32

In the car?

Well the owner and driver says she cant, not for her to decide really is it?

Yes I understand that but she's booked it thinking she can fit in it. So it's not silly for her to have booked it and not an XL unless there's size/weight limits online

I would assume at some point she as got in a taxi before

Tbf there’s overweight and there’s overweight 😳

Ollybob · 29/01/2025 20:35

Presuming if it was a standard seat belt she couldn't wear one, therefore if they crashed she would likely kill him as not secure (and herself I'm guessing)
Anyone remember the TV ad where the school boy kills his mum as he wasn't wearing a belt in the back?

"The rapper said she could fit in his car and has had no problem riding in vehicles of a similar size."

cant thank your comment enough. Some of the comments body shaming a woman are disgusting In this thread.

Rowgtfc72 · 29/01/2025 20:36

I'm 16st, dh is 6ft 6 and heavier. Dd is 6ft 1 and not small. We distribute our weight evenly. Even with our weight and long limbs, our car survives.
30st over one wheel could easily be damaging.
I'm officially obese- I know my limits- being overweight is going to cause some people issues, this is not a time for offence to be taken. I'm with the driver.

Tbf there’s overweight and there’s overweight 😳

And ? They’re both a person the overweight and the “there is overweight” they both deserve to be respected. Do you know this person to know exactly why their weight is not up to your liking?

I'm reading the disgust for someone who set out to deliberately rip someone off, using their weight as an excuse to claim victimisation. That's pretty disgusting IMO too.

Yes, but the point is there's no need to be hateful and rude.

AnotherWeekAnotherUsername · 29/01/2025 20:38

It’s the entitlement that gets me. If a taxi driver said he wouldn’t let me in his cab because I was too huge I think I’d die of embarrassment, not flipping sue him.

Edited

You think this is hateful and rude, you ought to see the comments people are putting on social media. Such as “she didn’t need a lyft, she needed a forklyft”

Where does it say in the t&c that people over a weight are not allowed to use a type of car?

VotingForYourself · 29/01/2025 20:39

sometimesmovingforwards · 29/01/2025 20:10

I wouldn’t want that in my car.

edit: I wouldn’t want all that weight in my car.

Why are you being so rude?

She weighs five times a healthy woman!

AnotherWeekAnotherUsername · 29/01/2025 20:35

Tbf there’s overweight and there’s overweight 😳

So what are you saying? That it should be open season on really overweight people? They don't deserve any respect or care?

More than one person on this thread has referred to the woman in question as "that". As if she's not human. It's disgusting.

VotingForYourself · 29/01/2025 20:39

What's the magic weight that makes someone overweight with a silly emoji and what - therefore a valid target???

Letsseeshallwe · 29/01/2025 20:42

But the car can handle the weight of 3 people surely?

In one spot? No

I couldn’t give a shite how fat she is, she can knock herself out. But she can’t expect everyone else to pander to her.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 29/01/2025 20:43

I once posted on here for advice after a neighbour who weighed 34 stone asked me to give him and his wife a lift. I was worried about the weight on the axle of my car.

I got absolutely flamed, I was accused of fat shaming etc. Almost all the responses were vile towards me. It's interesting to see that there's a different response on this thread.
