Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 19:21

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

People Back Driver Who Refused To Let Plus-Size Woman In His Car As She Sues Lyft: “Common Sense”

“I've been in cars smaller than that ... It hurt my feelings,” said the woman after the Lyft driver refused to let her enter his Mercedes-Benz.

Seems to me like this driver is on the wrong end of something seized on as a publicity stunt.

I agree. She's trying to destroy someone's livelihood for a bit of online attention. Vile.

KittenPause · 29/01/2025 22:54

How on earth is it discrimination

She is clearly physically to large to fit in some cars without causing damage

Agree. She calls herself the PHAT Queen. She wears minimal amounts of Lycra. And she wants to sell music and make a name as a rapper. Her image and her money come from being fat.

This little PR stunt is bang on brand. It’s worked well so kudos! I’d never heard of her before tonight.

Do you know that over eating is not the only reason for being obese or morbid obese? That there are illnesses that can cause morbid obesity?

The lady in the article may have got fat from illness or too much food, we don’t know. Either way she knows she’s morbidly obese and she needed to order a larger cab. Ruining this man’s reputation and livelihood is not on.

It’s an insane weight. I’m 57kg and 6 foot 2. She is 222kg. I cannot comprehend anyone justifying this blight on the health system.

You're 6ft 2 and weigh 8.9 stone? You've got health issues of your own in that case!

Mamaghanouch · 29/01/2025 23:11

Yes if choosing the standard size you may get a bigger car, but if you order an XL, which is what this person needs to travel safely, then you would get the appropriate car. She chose to order the standard car and risk getting a car that is too small to accommodate her. If have cancelled the ride and ordered the correct size ie XL.

No idea of course of she did it on purpose AND I think it was her error as she didnt order correctly.

verityveritas · 29/01/2025 23:13

Hmmm, I disagree with his argument about tyres (of the car), but the merc. Sedan is a low slung car, so I think going over a pot hole or speed bump, would probably be a problem for the exhaust and suspension.
I feel sorry for the rapper though, her legs must be so uncomfortable. Obesity is a disease (there is generally a significant psychological reason behind it, just as there are psychological reasons for alcoholism, drug taking, smoking, and a whole host of other human 'vices'). It's a shame psychological illness leading to maladaptive behaviours doesn't get more empathy compared to physical illness. I sometimes think fear of mental illness has been so deeply ingrained and misunderstood over generations that it's going to take much more tolerance, research and medical advances before we really understand the mechanisms of the brain. I think psychology and psychiatry are still very much in their infancy in terms of aetiology and treatment, here's hoping for some major breakthroughs in research for the next few decades, as we unravel more mysteries of the brain....

Agree with this, @werideatdawnn. I’m 5ft 8. I lost a great deal of weight quickly some years ago, not through choice. My lowest weight was 61kg and I looked skeletal. Please see your GP.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 29/01/2025 23:18

Re; Fat Shaming and talking about other peoples bodies. There is a big difference between making negative judgements and sharing opinions, and saying you cant accommodate someone because of their size. Like the influencer who was offended because a nurse called for extra help to move her. As long as the tone was not rude, and there was no derogatory language used, its not fat shaming for the nurse to take this action. although I can imagine it may be embarrassing. I posted earlier about my very obese cousin and commented that she was at the level where her weight impaired her mobility. That is not a judgement, it is a fact. I am not commenting on whether she should be the size that she is, or why, just reflecting the fact it was hard to get her into my car because of her size.

It's a pity she doesn't have more empathy for the taxi driver. Trying to destroy his life because he was worried about damage to his car? You know, the car he relies on to do his job? It's vile behaviour, she's not the victim here.

When I was massive I dreaded sitting next to people on planes because I knew that wasnt right and how I would impact on them

I also remember sharing the back of a car once with 2 people, I was mortified that they were impacted by me, all squashed up. People are kidding themselves if they dont think they're going to be viewed as inconvenient and a nuisance to other people physically.

Of all the posts, this is the one I respect the most. Total self-awareness and humility. It's impressive, rare and brave, because I'm sure it hurts to realise others can be negatively impacted by your weight and I'm sure it's often embarrassing, which is hard as well.

By contrast, the lady suing and uploading to social media footage designed expressly to shame the driver - is completely self absorbed with zero awareness or she'd not be so entitled.

WhatNoRaisins · 30/01/2025 06:35

I'm always cynical about people that film these things. This is obviously a case of a person picking a fight for a publicity stunt.

Tilly915 · 30/01/2025 07:30

I'm waiting for someone the same size as her to make a video trying to fit in a MB Sedan and post it online 👀

Lentilweaver · 30/01/2025 08:31

I never trust anything influencers looking for clicks say and this is no exception.

EasterIssland · 29/01/2025 20:43

And?

Being fat isn’t good and shouldn’t be pandered to. It’s not healthy or attractive.

DurbevillesGirl2 · 30/01/2025 09:11

Being fat isn’t good and shouldn’t be pandered to. It’s not healthy or attractive.

But it’s her body so what gives you a right to talk about her body and give an opinion about her? Do you know this person and the reason why she’s 5 times a healthy woman? Also, what is a healthy woman?

according the you she’s 5 times a healthy woman. 220/5 is 44kg. Is it really 44kg a healthy woman?? So many factors that I’d not say what a healthy woman is

Frequency · 30/01/2025 09:24

Being overweight to that extent is not healthy but whether or not she is attractive depends on who is looking.

Don't like it, don't look.

She seems quite happy with how she looks.

SerendipityJane · 30/01/2025 09:33

gamerchick · 29/01/2025 20:03

He didn't refuse. He suggested she would be more comfortable in a bigger car, let her try and get in his and she didn't fit. She deliberately ordered something she knew she wouldn't fit in.

Was she going to collect a wedding cake ?

WhatNoRaisins · 30/01/2025 09:35

As for her size, I don't care how someone looks or how big they are, that's their business. Safety has to come first though and it's right to refuse service if the service can't be done safely.

She is about 3 x the average or healthy weight for a woman, but that aside, do we give no opinion about any one elses self harming behaviour, what about drug or alcohol addicts? What about people that mutilate themselves?

BanjoKnickers · 01/02/2025 14:25

Not really the point of this, but I guess the best solution for anyone finding themselves in the situation that the driver found himself in is to refuse to engage (or let her in the car) until she stops filming. That would dodge publicity stunts, and refusing to take her because you don't want her filming rather than because she's too fat would I'm guessing not lead to litigation even in the US.

justasking111 · 01/02/2025 14:33

The driver should go to the Trump lot.

Letlooseonthedanse · 01/02/2025 14:34

fanaticalfairy · 29/01/2025 19:55

She weighs the same as 3 entire people 😱

And 3 people can easily ride in the back of a car. He was a prick.

Pandered to by being allowed to use a taxi service?? FFS.
