A lyft driver refuses a plus size woman in his car

Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 19:21

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

People Back Driver Who Refused To Let Plus-Size Woman In His Car As She Sues Lyft: “Common Sense”

“I've been in cars smaller than that ... It hurt my feelings,” said the woman after the Lyft driver refused to let her enter his Mercedes-Benz.

It’s a fact. Why do you consider it rude?

Referring to her as "that" then doing some weird "edit"

She weighs five times a healthy woman!

And?

This is like the regular threads on here about heavy people sitting on sofas, a sofa can handle 3 people, but not in one seat space, so someone weighing 30 stone is likely to damage a sofa that wouldnt be as damaged by 3 people weighing 10 stone each sitting on it

This. ^ Like when I went on a balloon flight, when I booked it they asked me my weight. Apparently you couldn't be more than 17 stone. Even though the balloon basket could take 120 stone (or so) you can only have 17 stone maximum in each section.

Some people weighed much less, so it was balanced. Eg, someone who weighs nearly 17 stone would be counterbalanced against 2 people who weight 8 stone each. I was 10 stone, so was counterbalanced with a woman who was 7 stone. But nobody could be more than 17 stone.

She weighs the same as 3 entire people 😱

Hysteria much! He probably has enough seats in the car to carry 3/4 people at a time so weight wise what’s the difference?

As pp said it’s the weight distribution.

Because, as people have said, the weight of three people weighing 10 stone over three seats won’t do the same damage as one person weighing 30 stone sitting in one spot.

Nah sorry america is full of big people, he saw an opportunity to be nasty and took it

The tires will not collapse 🙄

If she was wearing black and covered up her stomach, she'd look like a typical American

Oh fgs.

She is 35 fucking stone. Him turning down the job can affect his review rating and he will also lose money for that particular lift.

He's allowed to deny a service to anyone he sees fit (no pun intended.)

Not everyone is out to shoot down obese people.

I couldn’t give a shite how fat she is, she can knock herself out. But she can’t expect everyone else to pander to her.

Oh, come on. Pander?

Lentilweaver · 29/01/2025 20:46

Isnt this an influenza type thing to get clicks?

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2025 20:46

Serious question, why is it so bad to point out that someone is extremely overweight/super morbidly obese? Why are some posters getting salty and angry at people just pointing out cold hard facts?! No-one is being 'rude,' people are stating facts. Maybe some people are feeling touchy because some other posters are hitting a raw nerve.

The distribution of the weight. That weight in one seat will affect the suspension and handling of the vehicle.

He's not the only one who saw an opportunity to be nasty and jumped at it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2025 20:47

Then you would say, "Them." But, I think you know that, don't you?

Mingenious · 29/01/2025 20:01

i’m not sure I’d want her in my car either tbh. That’s like the weight of 3 people on one seat.

I wouldn’t ruin my car by letting someone that big get in it. Especially when my job replied on having a car.
It’s like letting someone too small for a fairground ride go on it anyway. It’s risky.

I can't believe a grown adult had to ask that question! Confused

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2025 20:46

Oh, come on. Pander?

Yes pander. You think he should just say ‘oh yes come on in love, fuck my suspension and my livelihood, your feelings are much more important’.

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2025 20:48

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2025 20:46

Oh, come on. Pander?

Yes, pander. That's what the woman is expecting people to do. Pander to her. Glad the man made a stand.

StormingNorman · 29/01/2025 20:48

She’d have fucked his suspension. You can feel a car tilt and sink when someone “heavy” gets in the other side.

VotingForYourself · 29/01/2025 20:48

sometimesmovingforwards · 29/01/2025 20:46

I don’t want to presume pronouns.

The article refers to her as she/her through out. If you really wanted to be gender neutral about it then "they/them" is the standard default not "that". "That" is for objects.

Nobody knows this woman and everyone is entitled to an opinion about her body?
also, many comments in this thread have been body shaming her and and not treating her like a human that deserves respect because the scales says a number that according to them is not ideal.

Maybe people should stop talking about other people’s bodies

I once posted on here for advice after a neighbour who weighed 34 stone asked me to give him and his wife a lift. I was worried about the weight on the axle of my car.

I got absolutely flamed, I was accused of fat shaming etc. Almost all the responses were vile towards me. It's interesting to see that there's a different response on this thread.

Edited

I remember that and I agreed with you.

I think this one is a political thread though - could everyone be careful agreeing with it. It's sort of Trumpest....

I think with threads like that it totally depends on the tone of the first few replies. Everyone takes their cue. I remember a thread where the OP didn't want to give a colleague a lift for this same reason, and 90% agreed with her.

Oh come off it, you must think we're daft. If you were trying to use neutral pronouns you'd have said "they" rather than "that". Own it, stop your pathetic backpedalling.

mitogoshigg · 29/01/2025 20:50

Surely the car can take 3 people so as long as she physically can fit into the vehicle what is the problem. Dh and i combined do not weigh that much less Blush we travel in small cars without issue
