What cosmetic procedures have you had done?

finchyyy · 19/12/2024 09:22

Just out of curiosity!
I'll go first. I'm 30.

Botox
Lip filler
Tear trough (this has to be one of my faves)
Nose filler
Composite bonded veneers (no shaving of teeth!)
Labiaplasty
Chin lipo
Gel nails
Individual lashes (no crazy spider lashes)
Tanning moisturiser every 2 weeks
Pedicure every 4.
Hair cut and highlighted every 3 months

Looking at that list I realise it's quite high maintenance. I'm curious as to what other posters have had done. And what has changed your life and can't live without?

Also, no need for the usual lot to come on and fall over themselves to tell us that they've had nothing done. I know it's not for everyone! :)

I have a veneer on a front tooth that needed a root canal.

i have taken to cutting my own hair so I can’t really count that.

so nothing really. I’m early 50s and reasonably happy with my appearance.

Disingenuous?

I'm sorry you're professionally offended by that. Would you prefer if I amended my title to CANCER PATIENT LABIAPLASTY? Would that help?

I am not “professionally offended”. I haven’t taken offence at all, I have pointed out that you have very carefully blurred the lines between procedures you have had to repair damage from cancer, and those that are just cosmetic enhancements, and then called out people being negative about the latter as BULLYING A CANCER PATIENT. It is disingenuous, intended to wrong foot people who disagree with your fundamental premise that cosmetic surgery is lovely and normal and positive and something to be universally celebrated without question.

nanodyne · 19/12/2024 14:04

@Over40Overdating oh thank you, I'll give that a try! I've had them since I was a teen (I frown when I concentrate or read) so I've made my peace with them existing, but if I can reduce their appearance non-invasively then I'm all for it!

'All I’m saying is I agree that it’s disingenuous to type out a laundry list of cosmetic procedures and enhancements, knowing full well it’s going to cause controversy, before doing a quick 180 to say “ACTUALLY this was all because I had cancer” to make people feel bad about commenting.

I mean vulvar cancer surgery and labiaplasty aren’t even the same procedure, so I’m starting to think that OP was on a wind up.

@Jellycats4life oh! The wind up comment. That took long, I'll scribble that off my bingo card.

I wasn't going to mention the cancer, and I have been pretty clear on which procedures I had done because of my cancer. I said it took volume from my lips and destroyed my teeth. I have also said now multiple times many on the list (labiaplasty for one) had fuck all to do with my cancer.

I've seen your username pop up on so many threads with snarky comments, looking for your 'gotcha!' Moment.

If it's not for you, it's not for you. But you don't need to be busy and comment on threads that don't interest you, making judgemental digs.

Go and be busy somewhere else.

I'm 53 and have had:

Front top 4 teeth veneered—because they sloped inwards like a shark.
I have my roots done every 4 weeks at the salon as i am dark brunette.
I have hair extensions to add thickness rather than length as Menopause made my hair thin.
I have BIAB nails done every 3 weeks.
I have had Inverted Nipple correction surgery.
I have had Upper Blephoroplasty for hooded eyelids.

I've never had injectables, but having recently lost 4 stone on Mounjaro I am seriously thinking about it as my face looks older suddenly.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's amazing!

I plucked my chin this morning, does that count as cosmetic?

finchyyy · 19/12/2024 14:11

Over40Overdating · 19/12/2024 13:46

@Jellycats4life OP hasn’t mentioned vulvar cancer that I can see, only labiaplasty. Which as you say are not the same so whoever is on a wind up, it’s not OP.

If people only feel bad for being a self righteous dick if it’s pointed out that a procedure was done after cancer rather than for the mortal sin of vanity, they still deserve to feel like a dick because it’s still not their business.

Thank you. 🙏🏻

Completely agree.

Where have I said anyone's bullying a cancer patient? ConfusedHmm

Christ, these cosmetic threads bring out some strange people.

Bizarre isn’t it….if cosmetic surgery wasn’t for me, and I saw a thread asking what procedures people had had, I’d just…..ignore it!

I do this, I find it quite satisfying and if I feel a sharp hair with my finger I cannot leave it alone until it's been removed!

christmasearly · 19/12/2024 14:27

Almost 38 and had Botox, lip filler, nails every 2/3 weeks, hair treatment in the salon every 4/6 weeks, hair cut every 4 (ish) months. Hair colour roughly every 8 weeks.

afaloren · 19/12/2024 14:29

I’m 42. I have my (very long) hair trimmed once or twice a year.

Brows and lash lift/tint every six weeks. I’ve had my brows done for decades but the lashes are new.

Yes, how dare anyone discuss potential issues with cosmetic surgery
with a culture that encourages women to devote more and more time and energy and money on their bodies
with social media algorithms feeding the perception that this is normal
with Only Fans blurring the lines between modelling and influencing and exploitation
with the explosion in hatred, violence and abuse directed at women
It’s all choice, and if you don’t choose it, just stroll on by, there’s nothing to see and nothing to concern yourself with
Just ignore the boring old weird old feminists, they’re extreme and weird and probably just jealous anyway
You do you, hunni, don’t listen

I replaced the light bulb in the bathroom with a brighter one the other day. OMG I was embarrassed by what I could see!

The title of the thread is ‘What cosmetic procedures have you had done?’

Not ‘let’s discuss potential issues with cosmetic surgery with a culture that encourages women to devote more and more time and energy and money on their bodies with social media algorithms feeding the perception that this is normal with Only Fans blurring the lines between modelling and influencing and exploitation with the explosion in hatred, violence and abuse directed at women’.

This might not be the thread for you, that’s fine, a thread about ‘let’s discuss potential…..’ wouldn’t be for me either, and that’s ok. Maybe you should start a new thread for the type of discussion you’re after? It sounds like a few others would be keen to join in with you.

Terrifying thread.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/12/2024 14:42

Gel nails but they ruin my nails so not very often.
Balayage once or twice a year. I'm lazy

doublec · 19/12/2024 14:44

OP, wishing you well and thrilled you're in remission.

Am surprisingly low maintenance. A few veneers and a bridge, but that's about it in terms of tweakments/work. These alone were the greatest money I have ever spent. In terms of other things - pedicure once a month. Two to three times a year for a haircut, but that's on hold as I am regrowing my hair having lost it due to chemo. Stopped colouring during the pandemic, but prior to that, a colour whenever I had my hair cut. The odd facial, but mostly do them myself at home. Dental hygienist every six months. Still regrowing my eyebrows and eyelashes, but currently wearing glasses so that hide any patchiness. I wear contacts usually (and definitely pre-cancer) so couldn't have lash lengthening anyway.

I do worry chemo is accelerated ageing but at the same time, had had a premature menopause anyway, so at the very least, was spared the horror of a medical one too. I'm also totally flat-chested having had a double mastectomy. No plans or desire to have implants or reconstruction. Really happy with my new v. v. v. v. flat chest. It makes every piece of clothing ultra chic and can now wear backless and mega low-cut tops, things I could not wear pre cancer.

Interestingly, having been through chemo, having a change of body shape thrust upon me has made me far more confident in myself pre-cancer. Maybe it's because I'm older, or maybe it's just I don't care? I don't know, I feel much more content in myself. To be honest, I found losing my hair far harder than not having any hair, and although my hair is regrowing, it looks dreadful, but in six months time, it will be fine again, so that's something to look forward to. Like I said, I don't know. Cancer has changed me in ways I hadn't imagined and am thankful for.

Jaehee · 19/12/2024 14:46

Balayage once a year

Haircut 2-3 times a year

Septorhinoplasty, not for cosmetic reasons but because my nose had to be reconstructed after a very bad break. I did get some say in how I wanted it to look though. Horrific recovery.

No, I’m not going to do that, because as I’ve explained, I feel that the existence of this thread is (dishonestly) attempting to normalise cosmetic procedures. I feel strongly that that is bad for women as a group, and it’s important to me not to let that slide, and to present the opposite perspective. On this thread, where people who might not read the one you proposed will see it. And I can do that, because this is a public discussion forum, not the OP’s personal Instagram.

StarlightLady · 19/12/2024 14:52

Unless you count regular Hollywood waxes and dental crowns, zero.

louisl8 · 19/12/2024 14:58

I'm 39

I've had

Botox twice.
Under eye skin boosters
Skin boosters
Lip filler once
Gel nails
Eyebrows
Occasionally get my lashes done but like twice a year!

I love the Botox and especially the skin boosters! I have quite oily skin and that helps with ageing.

Currently pregnant so can't wait till I can have as skin booster Smile

Over40Overdating · 19/12/2024 15:01

@LoobyDoop2 there’s nothing so feminist as attacking women who spend their own time and money on cosmetic treatments as vacuous and accusing them of participating in the commodification of porn for having Botox or veneers, or in OPs case having medical procedures to improve quality of life or fix side effects of medical treatment.

Even more feminist to throw what you think are scathing insults on intelligence based on a male propagated stereotype of the type of women who have cosmetic procedures.

In case you missed the memo, even women you don’t approve of can have an informed and nuanced opinion on societal beauty standards whilst having personal aesthetic preferences. To equate someone’s intelligence and ability to understand issues as well as someone as important and clever as you, with their appearance, is giving good old fashioned handmaidening dressed up as feminism, hunni.

SingingSands · 19/12/2024 15:03

Nothing for me so far - I'm 45.

BUT... I'm considering aligners next year to straighten my teeth and my already thin eyebrows seem to be thinning more now so I might need to look into something for them. I get confused by options though!
