I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Had a biggish food delivery today .
Then realised...this is my last "normal " monthly shop till next year !😲😂.

This is food/meal plan/prep which should last us till Christmas...barring of course the normal fresh weekly stuff.

Have ordered some oil stuff from Amazon to wipe over the new banister.
I know I am going to mess it up ...but at the same time ..I know I am going to ruin the wood if I don't treat it soon !

bizzey · 05/12/2024 00:13

Going to experiment with a new pudding tomorrow.

Brandy cherry crumble .

😂

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 05/12/2024 00:47

I am about to have a shower then watch Man on the Inside. Had soup and bread for dinner.

It’s quite cold here and I’m wearing an orange hat when I go walking because of deer hunters. I was overtaken while walking today by a jogger wearing a high vis vest, which reminded me of these threads in MN, hence here I am.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 05/12/2024 00:48

Also I think it’s time to start making mince pies and maybe a boiled fruit cake. And get some good strong cheddar - maybe something from Vermont.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2024 06:28

Hi ZZ! Nice to see you again. ☺️
Bizzey, you sound very organized! 😄
Myrtle, online social is a good idea! 😊

How thick I, you ask? Well, I booked another event in Langley. It took 90 mins to get there in rush hour which must begin around 2 and last until 7.
Anyway... took Havoc to Martini Town. It's a movie set where Hallmark Channel movies are filmed, among others, apparently. It was gorgeous. Shop windows, streets, alleys, houses etc. Worth the drive. It was first day and arrived at 4:30pm, so not terribly busy, especially since mid-week. There was a singing trio on the steps of a "mansion", carollers in period costume on a street corner, Santa and Mrs, Claus for pictures, a giant sleigh and reindeer, food trucks, hot chocolate/apple cider. a small market of handmade/cottage goods, and lots of decos and Christmas music. I'll try and post pics and the link.

Watch the promo video here to see the "town" before the Christmas decos:

The Martini Town backlot offers a New York brownstone theme, including entrances to houses, a small movie theatre, a coffee shop and an urban alleyway.

Penguinsa, how nice your dd will be home for a good amount of time. Your swimming is pretty great for having taken a chunk of time off. Must've felt fantastic to get back in the pool. 😄

Let's see which pucs load...

I took a lot of pics of the shop windows. The newspaper was cute. 😊

There was quite a bit of detail. Houses has Christmas trees in their windows; balconies were decorated above shops and an alley was filled with various displays (that pic won't load). And it was "snowing" on two streets.

That looks so charming, @Mumtobabyhavoc!

The online social was an interview with a very famous actor who I won't name because it might out me.

I drank white wine and ate sweet and salty popcorn and chocolate covered ginger biscuits. DH came home very drunk but sweet and slept in this morning, so i was up first.

Arrived on time at the dentist but he was 35 minutes late so I was very anxious in case I missed my train.

Fortunately I had 20 minutes to put on some makeup while DH made me coffee, then he drove me to the station. He will pick me up later.

As I was numb from anaesthetic and wearing some lovely clothes, drinking the coffee was a careful endeavour! However, I managed not to spill a drop.

Good news on the teeth front. An intermittent pain in one of my molars is apparently normal for the age of the filling. There is no decay, so he will check to see if I need a root canal at my next check up in six months. My teeth were badly filled in the 1970s and 80s, and these are gradually failing and being professionally repaired.

Lunch with a dear friend today and dinner out tomorrow night.

Pics are gorgeous, Penguinsa. But,
I got a very chilled out webchat person who told me always be happy and just chill and enjoy life but couldn't solve it.
I would likely see red, reach through the phone and slap them silly

That would have been much more helpful!!!!!

Deathraystare · 05/12/2024 11:41

@M@Mumtobabyhavoc

It always looks good around your way. Well yours and @MissConductUS !s

Deathraystare · 05/12/2024 11:45

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Wow that sounds great re the Hallmark studio. I am only half ashamed to admit I love those uber cheesey Christmas movies! Did not get to watch them this time as I now have no tv (living in temp accommodation) > Rumour has it I also love the DebbieMComber/ Robin Carr romance books about small town romances. But keep it quiet ok???

MissConductUS · 05/12/2024 16:58

@Deathraystare, they had the tree lighting in Rockefeller Center in NYC last night. I believe they got this year's tree from somewhere in Canada. We haven't put our tree up yet at home. Perhaps this weekend, we'll do that.

There's not much new here. Our new Bosch dishwasher is coming tomorrow, and the plumber is coming over to look at our gas piping. Apparently, the furnace is not getting enough gas pressure as the pipes they put in when the house was built in the 1980s were too small. We now have a gas water heater, gas stove, and gas clothes dryer in addition to the furnace. So that's another home improvement project that's coming up.

DH chatted yesterday with his manager about getting a pay rise due to the organization offering more money for a similar role in another department. According to DH, it went well. They didn't say no. I think they'll have to do something as they know he's retiring next year and need him to hire and train his replacement.

@MyrtleStrumpet, my DH also works in IT but doesn't do software development.

It's lovely to see you, @ZZTopGuitarSolo, I'm so glad you found the thread.

I'm glad the new job is going well, @Penguinsn and that you're back to swimming.

I'm so pleased I did the trial for Britbox. There are several seasons of Sherlock available that I haven't seen before, and a Britbox comedy series called The Change is about a 50-year-old woman who leaves her husband and kids to live in a caravan in the woods. It's quite funny.

We are having a bitterly cold day today after a wind warning last night. I filled the bird feeder and the squirrels have been pilfering it all afternoon. I hope they give the birds a chance too.

I made a turkey pot pie for dinner and an apple crumble for dessert. The kitchen is nice and warm now.

MyrtleStrumpet · 05/12/2024 23:10

@Deathraystare never be embarrassed by "guilty pleasures". They are pleasure, pure and simple. And to be honest the authors/screenwriters/playwrights are giving people what they want.

Have had a marvellous afternoon/evening with my beloved friend. My DH has actually stayed up past 10pm to drive me home. It is a 6 minute walk, though I have severe osteoarthritis so a lift is gratefully received.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 05/12/2024 23:26

Thank you for the welcome. Mathanxiety - DD is home from Chicago and is very glad not to be there right now. Here it’s 32F and trying to snow but not really managing.

I just went to the hairdresser to get my hair cut only to find the appointment is actually next week. So I came home again.

bizzey · 06/12/2024 00:06

I am getting very excited to know that a new oven cleaner I have ordered has been shipped !

It claims that all I have to do is ...
Spray , wait and wipe and I will have a sparkling like new oven 😀 😀 😀...

Must remember to do a before and after photo shoot of the oven 😂.

Private use only though 😂😂😂😂!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/12/2024 05:17

I gotta clean mine, too 😒 Bizzey. Just gonna use good old skool Easy-Off tho. 🤷‍♀️

sueelleker · 06/12/2024 11:37

I had laser treatment to remove film from one of my cataract replacements lenses five weeks ago. They like to leave at least 4 weeks before doing the other eye, so I phoned them this morning; and I've got an appointment for next week!

Sorry to hear of your Osteoarthritis. I had Still disease (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) as a child. I now seem to have the adult version - just like the prime minister's wife!

Deathraystare · 06/12/2024 13:45

@MissConductUS
Sounds exciting (sort of) to have a new dishwasher. I bet if I had one I would forget and still wash by hand!!! Mind you i was happy when mum got one!

That doesn't sound pleasant at all!

I broke my ankle five years ago and the cartilage between the tibia and the talus has worn away. Very painful but I will get an ankle fusion in two years.

Annoyingly I was placed on the waiting list about four weeks ago and they referred me for a steroid injection in the ankle. They said I wouldn't be able have the surgery within six months of the injection. Had the injection the following week (which was very quick, I had expected to wait a few months). Two days later they called to offer me a cancellation to have the fusion the next week and could income into hospital for tests. Sadly I had just had the injection so I'm back in the list.

WearyAuldWumman · 06/12/2024 14:14

I'm still in the process of deep cleaning my cooker. I can't figure out how my baking trays got into such a state.

The shelves are nice and sparkly and the hobs look okay. I'm trying to understand what I did to the top oven/grill seal. It's improving, but I've lost count as to how many times I've scrubbed it.
