Thanks for new thread MissC and good to hear your house clearance news.

Our 9 sacks were collected today. Have ordered pizza as the pizza van is at our village today and DH is just collecting them now.

DD has gone down to London for the day and meeting up with 2 girls she went to primary school with who are also off to university this summer.

Still doing checks for new job though at least I am catching up with lots of people I have not contacted for a while and getting their news.

mathanxiety · 24/08/2024 02:28

Thanks for the new thread, MissC.

I suspect the floor finishers used the oil based stain and seal and not the water-based. We left all the windows open as the workers advised us to do, and we set fans by our bedroom windows blowing clean air in, but I still had to use my inhaler last night before bed. They put down the second and final coat today, just sealer this time, and the smell has completely disappeared.

I made lasagna this evening as a DD is arriving tomorrow and staying for a few days. She loves lasagna more than life itself. I'm hoping we'll go through all the clothes and outerwear she left here and maybe fill up a few bags to donate.

We are bracing for a heatwave, hopefully summer's last hurrah.

PoopedAndScooped · 24/08/2024 02:35

Right now, laying in bed with the fan on me and scrolling through mumsnet 😂

GoFaster83 · 24/08/2024 03:44

I talk too much in class and over share my dull life with my children. On Friday in a speed writing activity a child wrote a story about my cat. I'm not just a boring middle aged lady obsessed with her pets- I've trained the next generation too!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/08/2024 04:36

Hello lovlies! I finished the last thread by posting pics from the Aquarium today.

MissConductUS · 24/08/2024 12:00

Welcome, @PoopedAndScooped and @GoFaster83, and thanks for sharing your mundane news. Gofaster, there are many of us on these threads who are cat servants owners. It's always fun to welcome new posters.

penguinsa, what is the pizza van? A day out in the big smoke sounds like fun for your daughter.

Math, I love lasagna but haven't made it in years. It would be a lot of leftovers with just the three of us to feed. I'm glad the smell of the stain has abated. It's supposed to warm up again here this weekend too.

Havoc, lovely pics and thanks for filling up the last thread.

For anyone new, we have posters from all over on this thread, but most the UK, the US and Canada. I'm from an area of New York called the Hudson Highlands. Feel free to tell us where you hail from if you like.

DC1 got GCSE results this week and did super well, v proud that the hard work paid off. They are off to 6th form to do A-levels next. DC3 starts gym camp next week, and then training returns as usual in September with a competition in early Nov to prep for. Silly season for swim galas also starts again next month. Plus I go back to work and DC to school so trying to sort last bits of summer to-do list…

The weather here has been utterly abysmal today, it has rained torrentially for much of the day with long rumbles of thunder thrown in. I’ve dusted and hoovered the whole house, including get up on a step ladder to reach the cobwebs in the vaulted ceiling. I’d be feeling more virtuous if I’d also managed a run, but I won’t run in an electrical storm!

DandyDandylion · 24/08/2024 17:07

We live rurally so no take aways or food delivered. There are a couple of nights per week where a food van will pull up on a local car park and serve that type of food often made to order so nice and fresh. We have the option of fish and chips on a Wednesday and pizza on a Friday. I suppose if you haven’t heard of a pizza van you might’ve ordered from a food truck at a festival?
I have had a boring day of cranking through the laundry and serving my feline overlords. We tend to have a quiet one when it is a bank holiday as even in our backwater the roads are ridiculously busy. There is a big music festival in the county so the motorways in particular are a no go.

Umanresources · 24/08/2024 19:04

I've had quite an interesting day today. Someone got in touch with me on an ancestry site. He bought the house where I grew up, from my mum, years ago and he's just found it that we are all related. His daughter and grandson still live in the house and I sometimes look at it on Google Maps, wondering what it looks like inside now. I'd love to go and look. I'm always envious when I see famous people going back to their childhood homes.

To calm myself I've spent time folding laundry. It's worked 😁

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/08/2024 22:44

It's interesting that so many seem to live so rurally there. 🤔
I don't go out to cafes or to eat much, but I like knowing everything is close by. I used to work downtown and went out almost every day for lunch and for drinks on Fridays. I sort of miss it, but, tbh, I much prefer doing it all at home. 🤷‍♀️
I don't mind a run in the rain/snow, but haven't during lightning... I have been caught out on the water though and navigated water spouts and lightning. 😅🫣😬
Congrats on exams and good luck on A levels!
I also keep in touch with the owner of the family property of one of my parents.

Havoc's last soccer session was this morning. Made pancakes for brunch. Baby had two small pieces and a couple bites of cantaloupe. Rain has stopped. Watching a movie: Yesterday. Anyone seen it? I think I'll go get some ice cream. 🤠

Penguinsa · 24/08/2024 22:44

Homemade lasagne sounds great Math

Lovely pics Havoc

MissC The pizza van has a wood fired pizza oven and goes round villages, maybe it's food truck in the US.

Congratulations on DC1s GCSE results Helena

Yes we are the same Dandy though we have a Chinese in the village.

Sounds interesting Uman

Went to a party at our neighbours today with lots of other neighbours and some of her friends. I was the youngest by quite a bit. Was nice. Everyone brought homemade food and we had Pimm's and lemonade. She had made two big jugs of what looked like water, but some people got a shock when they took the one jug as it was ginger cordial with a very strong taste. I liked it but some others abandoned after one mouthful. 😆

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/08/2024 22:47

Cross posted Penguinsa! Party sounds so fun! Pimm's...😋😋😋 A very civilised summer drink. 👍
Yes, food truck/van. 👍

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/08/2024 22:55

This one is from Granville Isle last weekend, but is stationed on Burrard by the Sutton Place Hotel daily.

I got a little carried away with the m&m's... blueberries&cream froyo, m&m's, cherries and syrup. 💁‍♀️

@ZZTopGuitarSolo @HelenaJustina good to hear from you.
@Mumtobabyhavoc we really enjoyed the aquarium and they were quite accommodating to us changing our booked time of entry.
@DandyDandylion I wish I could get organised to cold water swim as then I could justify buying a dry robe!
@Penguinsa does DD have to do training of a rest before punting?
Went to watch DS play in first rugby game for 2 years today in Llandeilo. It was lovely and he did very well considering he hasn't played for so long.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/08/2024 23:26

Sorry not acknowledged any posts on new thread as couldn't work out why I couldn't post on the last one and so copied and pasted my reply.
I wish Mumsnet would let you know why you can't post instead of suggesting logging out and in again!

sproutsandparsnips · 24/08/2024 23:28

@Penguinsa should read 'or a test' !!

Penguinsa · 25/08/2024 04:30

Pancakes sound lovely Havoc Yes it was a van similar to that.

Yes Spouts she had 3 days paid training at the start on how to punt and history of the town and had a test at the end and there's an annual retest.

Today we have a Sainsbury's click and collect, largely as DSs favourite conditioner is half price and he uses so much of it and then in the afternoon we are going to Elton Hall and gardens which is included with our Historic Houses cards.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/08/2024 04:33

Picked blueberries in the garden a short while ago!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/08/2024 04:53

I like the looks of Goldsborough Hall, Penguinsa!

DandyDandylion · 25/08/2024 10:51

I hadn’t heard of historic houses, near us there are national trust and English heritage properties. Is it mainly houses or do any of them have gardens and grounds to explore?

Penguinsa · 25/08/2024 10:54

Thanks Havoc

They mostly have gardens to explore as well Dandy I never knew it existed for years as well. Though its more random when they are open.

Penguinsa · 25/08/2024 10:58

We also are members of RHS and can get into their gardens with a membership for 1 person and they have lots of partner gardens though generally partner gardens second person pays entry. Some are members of Historic Houses as well and generally find Historic Houses has more included.
