I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Havoc lovely photos again, Vancouver looks a really pretty place.
Penguinsn safe journey to DH, it will be lovely to have DD home for a spell.
Death enjoy your book club meal and happy shopping
Dandy enjoy your dancing chicken/duck combo thing
IWandered thinking of you, hope Monday is ok
sprouts that alert was quite a shock! Didn’t know what it was at first, wandered round the house looking for a potential culprit then spotted my phone.

We survived the night unscathed, though it was very loud and it’s still really really windy. It was meant to be calming by 11 but no sign of that yet. Glad DH secured garden stuff. Our neighbour was not so lucky and lots of his fences are down. Ours came down a few years back in a similar storm and we replaced with walls.
A local measuring thing (on the coast but not far as the crow flies) recorded its second highest wind speed ever. We are up a hill a bit and it’s always windy here, even on a summers day, but it still is quite unnerving.
DH has just gone in to work to check if the building is still standing, managers cancelled the shift today after all the warnings.

sproutsandparsnips · 07/12/2024 12:37

So sorry @IWanderedLonely Flowers for you.

Penguinsn · 07/12/2024 12:40

Thanks Sprouts Hope the pool re-opens soon and the weather calms.

Thanks Shoes Hope weather improves soon.

DH has messaged to say has safely arrived in Oxford and all packed and said just waiting for DD to say goodbye to 4,587 new friends. 😂

MyrtleStrumpet · 07/12/2024 12:57

Thinking of everyone affected by the storm. We're in the east so it was a bit blowy. DSD and friend decided against their big trip today, which had been postponed from a previous storm, but they decided to go out in our local vicinity. We've been here three years and due to her SEN she doesn't work. It's lovely that she has a local friend. We worry about her being isolated. She lives on the top floor and mostly takes care of herself, but gets very tired and is hopeless with planning things.

I'm so sorry @IWanderedLonely that your mother has died. I hope the funeral is helpful.

I had a wonderful day with my friend and stayed out very late. It left me tired yesterday so we went for dinner locally but didn't stay long.

Today marks the beginning of the Christmas eating period. TOAST for breakfast! We lay off white carbs all year then starting now until the first weekend in January, we eat all the yummy things we eschew the rest of the time. January will be dry and carb-free until our anniversary in February.

This afternoon we are driving to a gig for a fabulous band from the 1990s and we're going to stay over in a hotel before driving back tomorrow afternoon.

Next week I am having a staycation where every day M-Th I will travel to a different craft class.

DandyDandylion · 07/12/2024 13:26

We are staying home and listening to the storm blowing around us. It has actually picked up as the day has gone on. There were trees down locally so the farmers were out with their chain saws first thing. Also lots of surface water floods reported to be making driving interesting. My favourite dcat is patting my face as I type this so stroking him with one hand is clearly not up to scratch.

HildaTablet · 07/12/2024 18:34

@IWanderedLonely I meant to send a message to you earlier. So sorry you’re facing this. It’s an awful thing at any time but when everyone's joyfully anticipating Christmas it’s even worse. My mum died 4 years ago in the run-up to Christmas and it was a surreal time. I was effectively her long-distance carer for over a decade so it was as if my life had fallen apart and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I still find myself thinking I’ll give her a ring. Sending you a handhold for Monday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/12/2024 19:17

Iwandered, so sorry about your mum. Forgive me if you previously mentioned and I forgot. Are you doing ok?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/12/2024 19:22

Watching the re-opening ceremony of Notre Dame. Organist was just going nuts playing. 😂 It was like a jam session of 1.

IWanderedLonely · 07/12/2024 19:54

Thank you all, especially Hilda . I live 2 minutes walk away and saw her almost every day. I did think I might start running again, but the weather hasn't been enticing so far.

Penguinsn · 07/12/2024 21:02

Running sounds like a good idea Iwandered or any exercise but yes weather is terrible at the moment. As DH says its perfect weather for an indoor pool. The gardens with Christmas lights are nice at the moment when the weather is a bit better.

DD is home now and lovely to have her home. Glad DH and her got back safely.

We are having aubergine parmigiana for dinner.

Have a lovely time at the gig Myrtle

mathanxiety · 08/12/2024 03:39

I Wandered you're in my thoughts. I hope you'll be able to get some rest after the funeral.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/12/2024 07:48

Iwandered, sometimes getting out in the rain is good tonic. iykwim A good walk/run without a set plan can be very cathartic. I've had some good cries out in the elements and a hot bath or shower after.
I lost my dad at holiday time (a long time ago now, he was young, though) and my bff at Christmas, and it isn't fair. It's trite, but try and be kind to yourself. I hope some happy memories of your mum will bring some comfort in time. 💕

Sending love and support to all who need it here. ❤️
This can be such a difficult time of year in many ways.
Also, thinking of our dear Tilly and Prok and hoping their families and friends have found some comfort.

Deathraystare · 08/12/2024 09:10

@Penguinsn

Your poor husband! But perhaps he does sound like a cat being strangled?? That would not go down well with the mighty Floof

@bizzey (I think it was you???)

We have some snacks first but I have really cut down on them, then the dinner and a few hours later we have cheese and biscuits!

I listened to the howling wind last night. I do love it although I know if you are out in it it can be dangerous. One year I was in Hastings walking along opposite the beach and a gust of wind nearly had me in the road. It didn't help that I had a cape on - almost like a bell tent!

I tried to tell mum what happened to me but she was just worried about my brother!

My blasted trolley broke. I am fed up with bus drivers who won't put the thing down so you don't bash your trolley into the kerb getting off. This happened to me last night so I have to go and get a new one!

Deathraystare · 08/12/2024 09:12

@HildaTablet

Sorry! It was you not bizzy! Sorry!.

Deathraystare · 08/12/2024 09:16

@HildaTablet

5 in our book club - all women. We thought the dynamics would change if a man came in although we don't read just 'chick flics' in fact hardly at all. Two of us love sci fi.

My current trolley has a tendency to damaged wheels, but luckily I can get replacements from Amazon.

HildaTablet · 08/12/2024 09:58

That sounds amazing re the bookclub food @Deathraystare! but 5 is quite a small number, luckily, so you can treat it like a dinner-party, I suppose. We normally have more than 10, and men as well 😂

MyrtleStrumpet · 08/12/2024 12:48

The gig was amazing! Being in the same room hearing them live was brilliant and they sounded like the album versions.

It was a bit annoying at times as it was a standing venue but I didn't realise I could have booked a chair in the disabled area - it only said wheelchairs. Next time I will call ahead and ask venues what they can do for those of us who don't use a wheelchair and can walk but can't stand for long. Anyway we found a comfy bench at the back and had a good line of sight until lots of people kept filling up the gangway about an hour into the main band. Where did they come from?! And every time my DH went to the bar or the loo, someone would assume the space was free! So I had to say, please don't stand there, it's for my husband.

But it was brilliant and they played a song during the encore that I had completely forgotten about but is one of my favourites. Home now and tired, but it was a fantastic evening.

Umanresources · 08/12/2024 16:50

@IWanderedLonely I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s so difficult at any time of year, but so poignant at Christmas. You’ve been in my thoughts and prayers every day, as I lost my mum at this time of year and we had to wait for the funeral until after the holidays. I’ll be thinking about you tomorrow and hope you get some comfort and peace. Take care of yourself. ❤

@MyrtleStrumpet the last gig I went to was a Monkees Reunion. Oh my goodness I loved it.

@Mumtobabyhavoc i love seeing all your pictures. Last night I dreamt that I’d gone back to Canada. I had made one shortbread biscuit and it needed baking. The lady I was with in a hotel said that the people knew her there so she would take me to the kitchen and get it baked. I woke up before it happened, but we had walked through the hotel for ages!

@bizzey I have lovely wooden handrails up my staircase and some chrome ones in the bathroom, which are essential for me at the moment.

It’s been very windy overnight, but thankfully it’s calming down at the moment. I think everything seems to be OK in the garden. I’ve had a lovely afternoon painting a picture, while The Holiday has been playing on the television.

Having a quiet lazy birthday here today !

Weather still in the miserable side.

DS bought me a scratch card as a joke ...
I won £15 😂😂😂!!

He is mumbling something about splitting profits 😲😲😂😂!!
Ds 2 is popping in later....
And db 1 is taking me out tomorrow!!!???

Ds1 gf sent me some special biscuits in the post !

Delivery person did not knock very hard on door and the box was a bit sodden when ds went out ...and found them on the doorstep!

But luckily..it was a well packaged box , so the inside was all ok .

Will wait for ds2 to get here and have one each !

MyrtleStrumpet · 08/12/2024 18:45

What a lovely birthday, @bizzey.

I've had a dreadful year starting with my DB dying in February and a lot of awfulness that I won't go into. So my DH has said I should find some joy and hit Christmas on a high so that 2025 will be better. So we had the gig last night, we're having a Thai takeaway tonight and I have a week of craft classes next week.

Then our neighbour knocked on our door to tell us that the storm had caused a tree to fall onto the front path from our teeny tiny front garden. We didn't see it as we came home this morning round the back. DH has cleverly pulled the tree back into the garden with some bungy cords, so hopefully it will reroot.

IWanderedLonely · 08/12/2024 18:54

Thank you all. Myrtle I hope 2025 is a better year for you.
I went for a run this morning. I used to run, but have barely done any for 2 years. Did 1.5 miles, so feel I've achieved something.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/12/2024 19:34

Myrtle, good plan for December and starting '25 off! 💕
Bizzey, a very happy birthday to you! 🥳
Uman, nice to see you! Funny dream. What would Freud say about, One Shortbread? 🤔
Hilda, Surprisingly, there's a lot to see. It's great for the littles and I'm happy we're outdoors and moving. I don't mind driving too much, but I get a bit of anxiety going out to suburbs I'm unfamiliar with at night. So, I tend to study google maps and keep phone on the charger with it when driving. 😂

Last night was a drive out to Steveston. I've mentioned it and posted pics before. Enjoyed a bit of carolling in a garden area, walked around looking at decorated shop windows, one restaurant was fully decorated (a courthouse orig), took dc to dinner 😬 in a sort of pub/restaurant which went well despite Havoc vomiting. I had baby on my lap, but somehow managed to open napkins and catch it and wrap it up without mess. 💁‍♀️
Wandered over just in time to catch a Santa parade that had wound it's way around the neighbourhood. It's traditionally done Christmas Eve, so unsure why it was last night. It's the high school band, a few classic cars, flatbed truck with Santa sitting atop and a fire truck decked out in lights. Also drove to Burnaby for one house that goes OTT with decos. I likely posted about it last year.

@Mumtobabyhavoc it's so charming! Like magic!

Penguinsn · 08/12/2024 21:06

Well done on the run Iwandered and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Happy birthday Bizzey

Hope 2025 is a good year for you Myrtle and sorry 2024 has been so difficult. Enjoy your Thai takeaway, I love Thai Takeaway.

Sorry your trolley broke Death

Been swimming tonight again, now 11.5 weeks post DIEP operation and managed 63 lengths of the 15m pool, and went in sauna and jacuzzi. Stomach still feels very tight like its full of wires but rest of me is OK.

Had roast turkey with pigs in blankets, cabbage, carrots, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce and then homemade apple crumble and custard.

Had a power cut last night and shouted for the cat to make sure he was OK and DD shouted out my cat. He was with her all night catching up on missed time.
