What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

M&S prawn shells,
Royal Scot biscuits, but that was about 30 years ago.
San Pelegrino switching to sweeteners.

Hillier took over my local garden centre and the wonderful Christmas section has never been the same. I was actually thinking about it as I went to sleep last night.

I read that as ‘hitler’ took over your garden centre 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bang bang dip in M & S, where is it? Why get us hooked and then stop making it? This is not an ordinary rage....

I remember a crunchy caramel ice cream from the late 70s...where did it go?

I'm pretty sure they were always vegan, at least the last 30 years, as i was brought up vegetarian and they were one if the few sweets our family ate in the 90s. But the round ones in the roll have always been harder and yummier than the fruit shaped ones in the big sharing bags. Same with their fruit pastilles. Have they stopped doing the rolls of gums?

Edited

They may have been vegetarian friendly, but they became vegan friendly in 2022 and it totally ruined the texture. Believe me, I've spent way longer than any normal sane person would, trying to convince myself they're Ok, but they're really not. Removing gelatin was the worst thing they could have done!

Just remembered Ovaltine chocolate bars back in the early 1980s. They were so so good.

Someone has! And they're a Cadbury!

Go visit https://lovecocoa.com/pages/our-story

Yes it's expensive... but for a treat and trip down memory lane, worth it.

Oh wow this is amazing! Thanks for the link!

sugarrosepetal · 16/11/2024 23:44

80s/90s chocolate filled, stocking shaped selection boxes. One of those was easier to chuck into a kids stocking with a few small items for filling it up.

Onautopilot · 16/11/2024 23:51

Jovan 'Ginseng ' perfume...suited my acidic skin (didn't smell like fly spray as 75% do). Next best was the original 'Opium'

Cauldron sausages (vegetarian) the changed the recipe. Fortunately there was so many complaints, the changed it beck, then a few months later changed them again. Fortunately this time they're edible, but they're no where near as good as the originals. 😪😪😪

They're very chewy now.

I think it is the quality of the pork in them.

Oh how utterly hilarious...

Watching a baby woodpigeon slowly dying in my garden. I just couldn't do it. I took it to the vet and they said it had avian pox. They said they would send it to a pigeon enthusiast to be nursed back to health and I keep wondering how he is.

The pigeon parents have been having sex very frequently and conspicuously on my fence for years, which annoys me a bit. I realise that I am totally unable to keep a sensible head when their kids are in trouble. Who knew?

good grief

OMG! yes, miss this shop so much. It was my go to lunch venue on a Saturday shopping day

Iceland sell the Walkers BBQ crisps.

They aren’t the same😩

I’m talking about the original bbq rib one that were in a black packet at the time. Iv tried the new ones but they aren’t right

Highelf · 17/11/2024 00:09

Most of the fizzy pop, (not even the ones advertised as sugar free) being very light in sugar and loads of horrible sweetners. Apart from coke, which I'm not a huge fan of, everything has a horrible taste to me now

MrsMe1978 · 17/11/2024 00:12

I used to love the old milky ways, where the filling was brown not white…tasted so much nicer

I'm fed up of how most chocolate tastes these days, it's all greasy and too sweet.

I love Lidl's Way to Go Caramelised Almonds and Sea Salt. It's £2.69 for 180g which is pricey but it's excellent.

Chickdaft · 17/11/2024 00:14

Estée Lauder’s Red Door, wore it for years daily, now it’s a thick red bottle shaped like a panelled door as may as well be sold in a tin and relabelled as a body spray as lasts all of 5 mins and nothing like the original. Gutted.
Same re the white street lights as blind spots inbetween lights and I always worry that a child will step out in the road in dark colours (please buy bright coats or have a little reflective band or suchlike) as so hard to spot.
Cheese that melts and bubbles with a browned top (under the grill) instead of a gloopy oily mess that slides right off your toast.

Plastic on the chocs (think quality street types) you used to buy at Christmas and still had that unctuous but brittle snap of chocolate) and that tin was fab for sewing kits, buttons or first aid in every household as a child.

Still remember the smell of ponds cold cream that my mum had, pink label and as a teen I loved impulse ‘gypsy’

Cadbury’s chocolate. I still eat it but…it’s just a bit sadder

Yes what have they done to it? I actually don’t eat it now.

Red Raid works wonders on beasties....kills spiders in this house in about 30 seconds and flies almost instantly.

Oh no you don't kill spiders do you? Even my severely spider phobic daughter never did that. Mind you she got cured so now she picks them up (the smaller ones) and puts them outside The cure involved me catching and looking after numerous spiders over a few weeks and then letting them go one by one in the bathroom - she jumped in the bath. Such fun!

Drinks that used to have sugar in - you knew it was there and you took the risk. Now you really have to check that old favourites don't have mouth-drying, chemical-tasting sweeteners in there (or one of the sneaky misleading names for it).

This has really messed with my son as he has type 1 diabetes and would use lucozade when exercising or to treat a hypo. Since they fiddled with the sugar content he'd have to drink a gallon of the stuff to do anything.

Thankfully the mini coke cans still have 15g of carbs needed to treat a hypo & the fizz makes it work faster.

mrsbojangles2 · 17/11/2024 00:26

As a kid in the mid 80s I loved a dessert you made by whipping it with milk. NOT Instant Whip. It was yogurty and purple. They don't make it any more. Anyone remember the name? Also miss Findus Crispy Pancakes and Toast Toppers and chip shop chips like they used to taste

LemonadeSunshine · 17/11/2024 00:33

Garnier Ultralift cream, both day and night versions. in red tubs. The only creams I've found that had the perfect texture for my skin, didn't sheen, shine or sweat.
