What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Vice Versas. They were a mid 90s product. Half of them white chocolate with milk chocolate and the other half were vice versa of them (milk chocolate with white chocolate shell)

Walkers Toasted Cheese crisps. Very cheesy.

I loved Vice Versas!

PorridgeEater · 16/11/2024 22:31

Waitrose stopped stocking my favourite Dorset Cereals cherry porridge - tragedy.

All perfumes last 5 minutes🥲
Used to be able to smell some perfumes on clothes for days after you sprayed. Now nothing. All new versions are just a shadow
i have to reapply a few times a day to smell anything

Fragrant Earth do some amazing, long lasting ones, but they only have a few locations so getting to smell them is tricky. as far as I know, their locations are all westcountry.

perfume oils are also a good way to go for longer lasting. I love Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. they do a LOT of incredible scents.

Start cereal it was my absolute favourite 😭

100% this! No one I know remembers it but it was amazing.

CheeryOtter · 16/11/2024 22:44

The Sara Lee chocolate danish you could get in the 90s, it was so good. I'm still searching for a substitute.

Pusheen467 · 16/11/2024 22:45

Lee Stafford hair products changing the scent 😭😭😭 The products are average imo and I only bought them for the amazing smell.

JetskiSkyJumper · 16/11/2024 22:49

I'm sure Maynard's wine gums changed a while back. I won't buy them anymore.

I’ve remembered another one- Cadbury’s Animal Biscuits used to be made with the same white sort of biscuit that you get in a cadburys finger.
Now they’ve changed it to this darker, bland biscuit and they are absolutely disgusting.

They have ruined them completely.

I’m sad about this too. Animal Biscuits were delicious back in the day and underwhelming now.

Fruitbatdancer · 16/11/2024 22:53

1990’s Sainsbury’s onion ring crisps. I’d pay serious cash for some and nothing since tastes same. No doubt they were full of MSG..

also, M&S individual packed slice of chocolate fudge cake. It was dreamy. From same time period. Everything they do now is too sweet!

Creosote. Oh, the smell.

Yes! The smell of summer back in the 70's down my street. Just a wonderful smell.

Rina66 · 16/11/2024 23:00

The lemon hand wipes you used to get from Kentucky Fried Chicken

When 'hot crumbly' was discontinued!

Oh my God, I was just trying to remember the name and thinking noone ever mentions it. Hot Crumbly was the best!!

Quality Street changing the lovely, Christmassy shiny foil wrappers to those dull papery ones. We used to have lots of fun making sun catchers/crafts with the shiny ones when we were little and peeking through the wrappers, so the room changed colours.

Yes, yes, I know the new ones are better for the environment, but they look rubbish and don’t feel as special.

Edited

This! This with a million bells on!

SmudgeButt · 16/11/2024 23:07

That they stopped making Sweet Maries. Obviously I'm likely to be the only person in the UK that has been affected by this.

Miss Dior perfume changing completely. It’s my smell. And it reminds me of times when my mum was still here and my ex was still here and I was really happy and I cannot face running out of the 30 sprays max that I have left in the bottle.

You can often get unused wrapped versions of discontinued perfumes on e bay

Thank you for that ❤️ I’m going to go and have a look.

@PrinnyPree I don't know if it's the same formulation but Superdrug stock Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation.

I've bought it and it's not quite the same one as the serum formula. Thankyou though @Blackcountryexile ! xx

Honu · 16/11/2024 23:13

I can't find who sent it but thank you so much to the poster who told me Perky Blenders coffee is on sale in B&M. Have just bought 12 tins!

eastegg · 16/11/2024 23:14

Hrtft, so someone may have already said this, but Terry’s chocolate orange/mint. It was a mint one I got but I guess it would be the same with the orange one. It was the most shocking example of shrinkflation I’ve seen so far. The segments have been sort of cut into on each side so there’s virtually nothing to them, but from the outside of the whole orange it looks normal. They’ve taken it too far, to the point where I just won’t buy one again, which when I think about it I’m sad about.

nitromors paint stripper. used to be bloody vicious-woe betide you if you got any on your hands-stung to blazers. about 5 years ago they fucked with the formula and I reckon you could probably drink it now.

This is wonderful and made me (& miserable DH) snort with laughter!! Thank you

vincettenoir · 16/11/2024 23:16

Smashbox discontinued their electric pink lipstick and I have never found anything else as good.

100% this! No one I know remembers it but it was amazing.

I thought it smelt like horse feed, but my primary aged DS used to shovel a big bowl of the stinking stuff down with hot milk every school morning! He still looks for it when he shops and he’s 40 soon!

Agree about the London driving and sweeteners in drinks. Yuck for both taste and health reasons.
Also, they changed the scent of Pears soap, whyyyy? Apart from being a super smell, it used to remind me of my mother, who always used Pears.

Oh no this is a gutter, not Pears!

totally agree with everyone on sweetener and palm oil. It’s made most snacks taste disgusting. I just pay more and eat more expensive chocolate bars now … but some stuff is irreplaceable, like irn bru or sprite

Actually but my one is elf powder blush. It was soooo good, lightly shimmery and just really nice colours 🥹

Try Blackstrap Molasses... I bought the Meridian brand...

I didn’t realise anyone except Tate & Lyle made treacle!

Meanwhile33 · 16/11/2024 23:34

Full fat Philadelphia cream cheese - the low fat ones were always horrible but I recently bought a full fat one for the first time in ages, it tasted of NOTHING and was all thin and wet and sad. So disappointing and has ruined all cream cheese frosting recipes.
