What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Got all excited, I can see I'm late to the party. Sorry!

I just want Body Shop to bring back Ananya.

The last Christmas gift I ever got from my step-mum was an Ananya gifts set. She died on Christmas Eve but had already been shopping before she went into hospital. I was devastated when it was discontinued - the smell always made me think of her.

Black Midget Gems that are "blackcurrant " flavour, instead of glorious liquorice

If you find out let me know! This was my go-to as well, nothing sat better on my skin 😭😭😭

I used that too - now I use the L’Oréal bb cream - seems thick going on at first as SPF 30, but similar coverage and good for skin 👍

Danielle9891 · 16/11/2024 20:36

The stupid bottle lids that are attached onto the bottle.

Dymaxion · 16/11/2024 20:45

Waitrose own brand toilet rolls went from being brilliant to absolutely shit, so not a small change really !

There used to be a biscuit called Cafe Noir. A bit like a party ring but coffee flavoured icing.

I think of them often.

My favoirite! You used to only get them in larger Waitrose stores in London. McVities made them.

At least you have lights. Our council switch ours at 11pm until 6am now. Not fun walking home alone.

Get yourself a torch like us country bumpkins Grin

Nandos mushroom and Halloumi burger, the proper one in a Portuguese roll. Not a pitta!

Yes! This! I got all the components last week to make my own but it wasn’t the same

80smonster · 16/11/2024 20:58

Lucozade. My hangover cure has been destroyed.

Where have hint of lime Doritos gone??

Yoonimum · 16/11/2024 21:02

M&S did a range of puddings that were in whatever was their equivalent of Finest/Best Of that have completely disappeared - so disappointed....

Roundup. Use with extreme caution. I use gloves and very targetted attacks.

Is that as an alternative to Quality Street or for period pain?

Mantissatopower4 · 16/11/2024 21:10

Tesco “intense” dark chocolate. All the Tesco dark chocolate. Used to buy several bars a week. Now buy Coop dark chocolate.

Removing Worchester sauce french fries. To be honest that broke my heart and Im still not over it.

I literally bought these a few shops ago, are they ending them now?!

Addled1 · 16/11/2024 21:21

Sweeteners being added to just about every soft drink in the UK. Ribena and Lilt are the saddest.
Oh and changing twiglets so they taste bitter and burnt

Ap42 · 16/11/2024 21:21

Sainsburys own tinned spaghetti, called noodle doodles... i mean, they discontinued them at least 20 years ago, but I'm still not over it!

The closure of Patisserie Valerie on Old Compton St. Also the closure of the Stockpot, on the same street. Been going there since I was an undergraduate in the very early 80s.

Agreed.

Edited

They’re still available in America (Tostitos). I had to crush a bag and bring it back in my suitcase for my son. He loves them

hareinthemoon · 16/11/2024 21:25

Agreed.

Wow, I remember Stockpot! What a blast from the past. I'd forgotten all about it. Went there often in the late 80s when I was working in Marylebone in my early 20s. It was an institution.

GeminiGiggles · 16/11/2024 21:32

Hard agreed with wtf ever happened to the punk smelly germolene that stung like a bitch but you knew it was doing the job. The white paste we have now is now where near as good.

Can never find any Doritos sour cream and chive dip. What happened to it?

Why are twix so small or even worse a single bar?

Bring back tropics!

So many things not tasting the same even since the 90s.

Comedy series aren't as funny as they used to be.

Yeah... I have a few...

I was, and continue to be, gutted that Rowntrees took the decision to only produce vegan friendly Fruit Gums. It means the sweets are now mush and don't have that chewy texture that I loved about them. I can't understand why (and I know I'm not alone in this opinion) they have gone with a 'softer chew' - honestly, this was what I loved about them, that they took longer to eat! They're horrible now and they've lost me as a customer.

I'm pretty sure they were always vegan, at least the last 30 years, as i was brought up vegetarian and they were one if the few sweets our family ate in the 90s. But the round ones in the roll have always been harder and yummier than the fruit shaped ones in the big sharing bags. Same with their fruit pastilles. Have they stopped doing the rolls of gums?

Zebedee999 · 16/11/2024 21:38

Walnut Whips - Decades ago they changed the cream to some feeble inferior stuff. Then they changed the chocolate to some inferior stuff. Then the walnut half became a fragment or mini half.
Loved them as a kid, don't bother with them anymore.

And they halved in size.

Incompletely agree with you.

@WahWahWahs I felt the exact same way when I opened a tin of Quality Street the other day. Everything seemed to have hint of orange and the purple one was gone Easter Sad.

QS been going downhill since they stopped the tin containers and went for plastic.
