What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Fly spray that actually killed flies.

Red Raid works wonders on beasties....kills spiders in this house in about 30 seconds and flies almost instantly.

M&S gastropub sausage and mash. Now sausage and lentil gravy. Sausages are 90% meat. There is a normal range sausage and mash, sausages just 78% meat

Heinz tomato soup, used to love it, now cant stand it.

Not everyone’s favourite but I miss Heinz Toast Toppers used to love the chicken and mushroom one for lunch.

I’m sure I’ve seen these around,

Happily driving along at a perfectly safe speed of 30mph and having to drop down to 20mph and feel a fool as grannies walking along the pavement are faster than you!

Do you want to go back to higher numbers of injuries and deaths?

The thread was about small things, not road deaths.

AuntieJoyce · 15/11/2024 05:55

Quilted toilet paper. Brand after bloody brand is becoming like using sandpaper on my fadge.

I don’t mind paying more for toilet roll as long as it feels nice. I apparently I am in a minority

Ditto kitchen roll. Although I only use that on my worktops

That was you. You were the one who made it about Road deaths.

There used to be a Nestle cereal in a light brown box, the cereal was a bit like thin bran flakes and it had small lumps of crushed nuts in a crispy sugar coating, and sliced almonds. Loved it.

Farmgoose · 15/11/2024 05:58

When my local shop stopped selling Loxley Farm cottage cheese. Really hard to find in the big supermarkets. It’s how cottage cheese should taste. The other brands are thin or gritty and sour.

The speed limit change was made to cut road deaths.

It's a contentious issue, highly political topic.

Mlanket · 15/11/2024 06:05

20mph roads don’t bother me, very common in London.

However not being able to get a normal coke in some places does my head in, I will pay extra for it. There used be a frozen yoghurt brand I loved which you can no longer get & I haven’t found a replacement.

cryinglaughing · 15/11/2024 06:05

The plastic used for squeezy bottles - mayo, tomato sauce etc.
It is so rigid that quite a lot of product just can't be squeezed from the bottle.

Harassedevictee · 15/11/2024 06:09

Germolene ointment. The thick pink ointment in round tins not the new recipe ping cream.

A good bakery that makes almond danish with custard and cream. I miss Coombs the bakers.

Saviu · 15/11/2024 06:09

Since they changed the Percy Pig recipe they are revolting.

Mlanket · 15/11/2024 06:11

@cryinglaughing Oh yes, I use my long skinny figures. It’s expensive now so I want every drop!

Please don’t kill spiders.
They keep the fly population down for you.

I'm fed up of how most chocolate tastes these days, it's all greasy and too sweet.

Yup, greasy chocolate. Its disgusting now. You have to be so careful to not buy the greasy tasting stuff. Otoh I'm eating way less chocolate which has got to be a good thing.

If you didn’t kill the spiders they’d kill the flies for you and you wouldn’t need to spray poison inside your home.

Some of my favourite presenters and newsreaders from Radio 4 don't do it any more... Their voices were so familiar and soothing.

I used to listen to Radio 4 for a lot of the day.
But with all the changes there's hardly a programme I want to listen to so ended up listening to Radio 3 instead.
Now they've started changing Radio 3 and not for the better either.
Don't know what I'll do when that becomes unlistenable as well. Probably just listen to audio books.

Purplewarrior · 15/11/2024 06:20

Mine are perfume gripes.

Estee Lauder Spellbound smells completely different, like a shadow of its former self. So disappointing.

Givenchy Eau de Givenchy discontinued but xyz is the same…. No. It isn’t.

Waystation · 15/11/2024 06:20

How I was really enjoying this thread until someone lost the lighthearted theme….

Chillinvibes · 15/11/2024 06:23

Weedkiller that actually kills weeds which various brands I’ve tried don’t.

Years ago Feminax tablets changed their formula which then didn’t work on my period pain and I had to then take cocodamol which made me feel sick and I usually had to go to bed. Menopaused now but I was really outraged at the time.

Our street lights are now white on taller columns which means they don’t really light up the pavements and therefore feel less safe.

Don’t get me started on quality street and roses it’s an abomination, when one tin lasted well into January 😥
