DCs want ours up now!!!!!
Answer is no! But I will probably cave and let them put it up on 30th November! 🌲 but I'll know I'll want it down by Boxing Day!

Ours go up on the day after schools break up. Come down 12 th night.

Chipsahoy · 07/11/2024 16:55

First potted real tree goes up straight after Thanksgiving and then the rest a week later. Leave it all up until around 6th Jan.

K0OLA1D · 07/11/2024 16:57

We put ours up on the last weekend in November and down again before NYE.

I like going into the new year after a sort out and clean Christmas week and that includes the decs.

Not feeling Christmas this year ( probably still too early )
but dh and I yesterday discussed not bothering with a tree ( we haven't got teeny tinies ) .
We will still decorate with our other Christmas bits , but a tree . Hmmm ....

DappledThings · 07/11/2024 16:01

Ideally about the 20th December but DH likes it up first weekend in December. I have managed to be away that weekend for the 2nd year running so I don't have to be involved.

It will stay up till Epiphany though. I mildly judge people who put it up early, but I massively judge those who bring it down early. And before Twelfth Night is early.

Judge away

Our Christmas ends NYE. Yours doesn't.

I judge people who are sad enough to judge when people put up and take their Dec's down.

fitflopqueen · 07/11/2024 17:03

Around a week before Xmas day at most (real one) then it stays until 12th night.
Door wreath goes up earlier ( when I have been to the workshop) and the little living tree will be moved closer to the front door with its own lights
we have an Aussie house guest this year so feel the need to make it extra special for her first one away from home.

Snugglemonkey · 07/11/2024 17:08

1st December this year. First Sunday of the month.

jmh740 · 07/11/2024 17:14

I used to do up on the 6th(well closest weekend to it) and down on the 6th.
Probably 7th or 14th this year and down before everyone goes bk to school.

MyStylish40s · 07/11/2024 17:15

The first weekend in December

ChaosHol1 · 07/11/2024 17:16

Evening of Saturday 30th or Sunday 1st December but I can't wait to have it up.

KimberleyClark · 07/11/2024 17:18

Our tradition is to have it up in time for the Strictly final on the 14th, so 12-13th. And will stay up until 5/6 Jan. Went to my favourite coffee shop this afternoon and they already have a tree and decorations up, I think it’s far too early.

EvenLess · 07/11/2024 17:21

Soon. It's not what I would usually choose, but I start chemo in about 3 weeks and want the decorations up and sorted before that, to preserve a bit of normality and Christmas fun for my DD, who is only 4.

As is your perogative. We all have the little things we enjoy. Usually seems those who take it down early come across as the most defensive about it mind you.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 07/11/2024 17:29

1st Dec, can't wait

36and3 · 07/11/2024 17:31

1st dec, will take it down on 4th jan

I'm not the one openly admitting to judging someone for when they take their decorations down 😂

SleepingisanArt · 07/11/2024 17:35

20th December and down on 2nd January. I like the tree but not forever!

kikisparks · 07/11/2024 17:35

Up on 1st December, down on 5th January I think.

Those of you saying you want your tree down by boxing day, are you not still being christmassy then? Boxing day is round 2 surely? Family coming over for buffet, swapping more presents, Christmas music on?
And so on until new year? Sitting on the sofa reading your Christmas present books, eating chocolates , all by the light of the tree?

These are my thoughts too. Everyone has their own views on when Christmas is over, but for me it's definitely not until New Year's Day at the earliest! I tend to keep the decs up till Twelfth Night which I know is too long for many, but I could never dream of taking them down until New Year's. The 'in between' period a lot of people dislike is my favourite part of Christmas, all the stress over, time to relax. (I do realise I might feel differently if I wasn't lucky enough to be in a job where I could take Christmas off.)

Nor am I defending my judginess! I'm happily openly enjoying it 😄

Early December, probably weekend of 7/8th . Don't like it up too early, and we always leave it up until after new year

ruethewhirl · 07/11/2024 17:38

thebigbrownbear · 07/11/2024 16:06

regardless of when it goes up, I will make sure that ours is down as soon as possible once boxing day is done !

DH will push for it to go up xmas eve, DC will eat a lot earlier.

Not sure I read that correctly, are you saying your DH would want it up on Christmas Eve and down on Boxing Day? Or would he want it up longer?

WhatNoRaisins · 07/11/2024 17:39

For me it's not so much that I judge those who take it down before New Year but I can't imagine doing it because it's so far removed from my own experience of the season.

The fact that I don't get much joy out of cleaning myself might be a factor though.

Mirren22 · 07/11/2024 17:40

Probably first Sat in December. I enjoy all of the prep and decorating it, I'll put on some lovely Christmas carols, light some candles, pour a glass of fizz and soak it all up. I have no idea what colour of baubles to go for yet

Happyher · 07/11/2024 17:41

About a week before Christmas.
