DCs want ours up now!!!!!
Answer is no! But I will probably cave and let them put it up on 30th November! 🌲 but I'll know I'll want it down by Boxing Day!

I normally put ours up the first weekend in December but this year has been a bit difficult health wise and I feel putting the tree up early might give me a nice lift.

I have family visiting on 21st Nov so might get the tree up for then. All presents for further away family are going this weekend so I can relax a bit in the lead up to Christmas without being swamped.

I've a nagging feeling that it's just too early so maybe I just need permission from MN??

Floralnomad · 07/11/2024 15:16

Go for it @TabbyBeast , that’s hardly early at all 🎄

cheezncrackers · 07/11/2024 15:18

We always put ours up in early December. Looking at the calendar for this year it's likely to be the weekend of 7-8th.

When I get the Christmas feelz/panic

Topsy44 · 07/11/2024 15:57

1st December. We have got a real tree for the past few years but I think I may go back to artificial this year.

DappledThings · 07/11/2024 16:01

Ideally about the 20th December but DH likes it up first weekend in December. I have managed to be away that weekend for the 2nd year running so I don't have to be involved.

It will stay up till Epiphany though. I mildly judge people who put it up early, but I massively judge those who bring it down early. And before Twelfth Night is early.

Who in the name of god puts their tree up on the 23/24th dec ? What's the point

My mum always did. Decorations were up for the twelve days of Christmas. No more, no less. The point being to celebrate the actual season at the time of the season. Not 6 weeks before and clear it up on day 2 of 12.

thebigbrownbear · 07/11/2024 16:06

regardless of when it goes up, I will make sure that ours is down as soon as possible once boxing day is done !

DH will push for it to go up xmas eve, DC will eat a lot earlier.

12th night isn’t early when it has no relevance to our Christmas celebrations

I'll still judge you. You can't stop me!

When I become an authoritarian and yet cheerfully eccentric dictator it will literally be illegal.

Floralnomad · 07/11/2024 16:12

For me , as an atheist , Christmas is over on New Years Eve and the New Year begins so our trees comedown then and everything is clean and tidy for the New Year .

LeopardsANeutral · 07/11/2024 16:14

We always put ours up the first weekend in December. Having the living room decorated the last week of November and some new furniture to build, so hoping it will all be done on time to get the decorations up for the 1st.

I 100% judge those who don’t accept that others have their own family traditions. We’re atheists so Christmas is party time, good food and drink, visiting family and Christmas Day competition for our pj’s. Perfect and without any mention of religion.

The Christmas tree needs to come down to give the house a good clean for a NYE party.

Overtheatlantic · 07/11/2024 16:18

Tree on the weekend of the 14 Dec but I’m decorating the house this weekend because I need some cheering up. 🎅🏼🤶

Fair enough. We can cheerfully judge each other then!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/11/2024 16:20

Tree and decs go up around the time school breaks up. When my kids were children we used to make a 'thing' of buying the tree and decorating it on the first day of the Christmas holidays, and I worked in a school for years after they were grown up, so it's just sort of stuck with me to do it then. All down on Twelfth Night ready to get into the drabness of January/February.

Oneblindmouse · 07/11/2024 16:22

20th or 21st December. It will be down on New Year's Day as the festive season is over by then as far as I am concerned.
I live alone and have Christmas Day at my son's house so don't bother much with decorating mine for Christmas.

Manchesterbythesea · 07/11/2024 16:24

Ours is going up on the 4th. Dd has a day off so we’ll do it together. Also the Late late toy show is the 6th and ds11 thinks we need it for that!

Fluffyc1ouds · 07/11/2024 16:24

We always aim for a Saturday in mid-December, so this year it's looking like 14th. Last year I caved and went a week earlier but was bored of looking at it by Christmas day.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2024 16:39

18th or 19th December. I'll buy it the weekend before (fresh tree) and let it sit outside in water for a few days.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 07/11/2024 16:45

With young children the build up to Christmas is more enjoyable/exciting than the time between Christmas and New Year imo, so we put it up early, this year will be last day of November, and always put it down sometime between the 27th and NYE. I feel Christmas is ‘done’ after Boxing Day.

lovelysunshine22 · 07/11/2024 16:46

I would have done it this weekend but im having building work done so it will be when thats finished! I love Christmas and all the twinkling lights and decorations!

Thank you Floralnomad I'm grabbing that permission and running with it!

shellyleppard · 07/11/2024 16:47

Always always the last weekend in November/first week of December. Then everything packed away and the house has a deep clean before new year eve. Following in my mum's traditions

GroovyChick87 · 07/11/2024 16:48

We have a family birthday at the end of November so once that's out the way the tree will be going up. I used to wait till the 1st December but the earlier the better.
