DCs want ours up now!!!!!
Answer is no! But I will probably cave and let them put it up on 30th November! 🌲 but I'll know I'll want it down by Boxing Day!

We are having a party on the 21st Dec, so it’ll be a day or so before that. I can think of nothing worse than decorating the house when it’s still so many weeks away. Takes away all the specialness, Also, we have real trees (one in sitting room and one in kitchen area) and foliage. They’d be twigs if we did them 7 weeks early!

Ours usually come down on Jan 1st or 2nd - Boxing Day is really joyless.

So why take them down for Boxing Day which is still peak Christmas period imo? If they put them up early surely they’re into Christmas, if they’ve dragged it out from November? 🤷‍♀️

I mean, the second post in the thread puts up on 20 Dec and then down on Boxing Day. So it's not just the early ones.

If a Boxing Day person hasn't given a reason in their post, why not ask them, as I can't answer for them! 🤷‍♀️

We're nowhere near Advent yet- a whole other season to do.

Our tree goes up the weekend before 25th December.

I reckon the people who put them up early actually like them up for longer, so aren't sick of them (the whole point of putting it up early!).

I love having the decorations up for 4 weeks. I like the brightness and cheerfulness in the middle of the cold and dark evenings.

Me too. It feels dead dark when they're taken down!

The first weekend in December. Last year I thought we’d leave it later as the kids are at uni now, but the only trees left at our local garden centre on Dec 15 were
all going bald and looked really straggly. They always have a lovely selection of healthy trees at the beginning of the month so I’m going back to my usual system this year. I do love decorating the tree - I’ve been collecting tree decorations all my adult life and I’ve got my favourites from my late mother’s tree now too. Just love it.

LisaJohnsonsFacebookMole · 03/11/2024 17:13

Never. I've quit Christmas this year.

Hoglet70 · 03/11/2024 17:16

1st December. I'm done with it by 27th but DH likes it up until New Year.

atiaofthejulii · 03/11/2024 17:17

I've just ordered its delivery actually (real one) for 9th December (just after my birthday - have only once or twice put it up before then). Looking at the calendar, will probably decorate on the 11th. Stays up till Epiphany.

Fireworknight · 03/11/2024 17:17

Weekend of 14/15 December.

Those of you saying you want your tree down by boxing day, are you not still being christmassy then? Boxing day is round 2 surely? Family coming over for buffet, swapping more presents, Christmas music on?
And so on until new year? Sitting on the sofa reading your Christmas present books, eating chocolates , all by the light of the tree?

Nope.
No family around to come over for buffet etc, and I live alone.
Not sure if I will even put it up this year as mum dying.

Webbb · 03/11/2024 18:00

When is best to get a real tree please?!

Never had one before, so very excited. Have always put all decorations and fake tree up on Dec 1st, and will do so this year too, but thinking maybe real tree later so it survives?

LyndaSnellsSniff · 03/11/2024 18:12

We'll probably go and buy it on the Saturday 7th and I'll decorate through that weekend.

Today I have been messing about with Christmas Day dining table ideas. Or, as the dickheads cool folks say, tablescaping.

Luxemblerg · 03/11/2024 15:16

First Saturday of December!

Yup. We'll go and chop our tree on that day :)

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 03/11/2024 18:14

First year sans doggo so we are going for a real one. Will decorate first weekend December but the tree will be around the 15th.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 03/11/2024 18:18

Two weeks today! Then down on 1st/2nd January.

I just love Christmas and the sparkly decorations and pretty lights.

applebee33 · 03/11/2024 18:20

Who in the name of god puts their tree up on the 23/24th dec ? What's the point

Tuaj · 03/11/2024 18:21

Normally goes up first week of Christmas, this year probably mid November, I’m having an operation dec and I’d like some of the Christmas cheer when I’m not recovering and feeling like shit!

DramaAlpaca · 03/11/2024 18:22

We have a real tree, which goes up about a week before Christmas, and down on 6th January.

LoobyDoop2 · 03/11/2024 18:22

The weekend of the 14/15th. Not going to do it any sooner because I don’t want it to dry out and look crispy by Christmas.

Ruthietuthie · 03/11/2024 18:23

Sunday 1st December. Usually, I would wait a week later, but this year we are going to a forest with our neighbors to chop down our trees. Their son is home from university for the Thanksgiving break, so going a little earlier means he can come too. My parents HATED Christmas and were such scrooges, really disparaging of any kind of decorating, gifts, or expense. I decided as an adult that I would do exactly as I liked. Decorating the Christmas tree with the ornaments that I have collected over the years is perhaps my favorite day of the year. This year, in Barcelona, I bought a gorgeous velvet embroidered ornament of the geese in the cathedra. We also love going to our local "Miracle on 34th Street," where a local street of terraced houses started a tradition of all-out (slightly tacky but extremely celebratory) decorations, walking the cold street while drinking hot chocolates. www.christmasstreet.com
My mum felt superior by not doing all this unnecessary Christmas stuff. I hated her snobbery and negativity as a child and now, in my own house with my own family, I enjoy every minute.
