DCs want ours up now!!!!!
Answer is no! But I will probably cave and let them put it up on 30th November! 🌲 but I'll know I'll want it down by Boxing Day!

Weekend before Xmas as always. I know people who have had theirs up since Nov 1st. I go all Hyacinth Bucket, and look down my nose at them.

1st December down around 5/6th January

That's me

For me it's not so much that I judge those who take it down before New Year but I can't imagine doing it because it's so far removed from my own experience of the season.

The fact that I don't get much joy out of cleaning myself might be a factor though.

I have admit I give myself Christmas week off from cleaning. 😄Realise that would be harder if I had DC, though.

We collect our tree on 7th December so will probably put it up on the 8th after it's been standing in a bucket of water overnight.
Will take it down on 2nd January

strangeandfamiliar · 07/11/2024 18:04

We'll wait til dd's home from university, so probably around 15 Dec. Usually keep it up til Twelfth Night, but we always have a real one, so it's often looking a bit tired by then

DappledThings · 07/11/2024 16:01

Ideally about the 20th December but DH likes it up first weekend in December. I have managed to be away that weekend for the 2nd year running so I don't have to be involved.

It will stay up till Epiphany though. I mildly judge people who put it up early, but I massively judge those who bring it down early. And before Twelfth Night is early.

I massively judge people who can't work out that other people can live their lives in a way which suits them, and it really doesn't matter!

Around the weekend before Christmas as we always do. It stays up until Epiphany.

Three house gradually gets decorated starting with the advent calendars which are big, fabric hanging affairs then inner of our pictures gets replaced with a Christmas cross stitch, the Christmas bunting goes up, fairy lights get added to the living room for the dark evenings snuggling in.

But the final event of the tree is the last piece of Christmas prep. It means that school is finished, Dh has finished work and we get it up, decorated, presents appear from cupboards all wrapped up and get put under it and we await family and friends.

And then I keep going to work and ds who works in retail still goes to work. But the sentiment is there!

I really like this idea. I like getting into the Xmas spirit but the tree can be a bit much if it's up for too long. I'll start with lights and keep adding. Thanks for the idea!

Fair enough, you enjoy your judging, I'll enjoy mine.

It's mind boggling how odd some people are! 🤷‍♀️

I know. Randomly taking down their Christmas decorations halfway through Christmas. Crazy! 😂

In our house Christmas is over after Christmas Day. We don’t have a Boxing Day like the uk so shops and businesses are open again on 26 Dec and we get ready for NY.

Mistletoeandwinegums · 07/11/2024 18:49

I would happily put mine up now but DH has firmly said no 😭 ours will go up 1st December and go down the 4th or 5th of January before we are all back at work.

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/11/2024 18:49

23 Nov. Cant wait!

See whereas the first brew sat down after we've cleaned and sorted after Christmas is all the joy I need! That and I don't get much time off and it would erk me if they were still up when I went back to work, knowing they needed taking down and I hadn't got Christmas to look forward to anymore.

Again. Your Christmas. Mine and others have very much ended

TheNoodlesIncident · 07/11/2024 19:07

Ours will be in the first week of December, don't have an exact date in mind. But it's really an all-day kind of job so I don't want to be taking it down again too soon. But then again, I really really like our Christmas tree when it's decorated, I could gaze happily at it for hours. I don't get people who want to take theirs down as soon as they can, do they have boring trees that don't look nice?

I wouldn't want it to be up for months, that would retract some of the specialness of it. The tree and the coloured lights outside keep the doom of winter and cold at bay, I couldn't be without them. I'll put the outside lights out soon, although I won't switch them on until December.

Sure, you consider Christmas ended. It technically isn't but of course nobody has to observe the technicalities if they don't want to. Until I become dictator and mandate it as I say. Until that day I'll just stick to judging people for being wrong. Especially as it seems to annoy people so much.

Same as I'll issue hefty fines for anyone referring to all school holidays as half-term as opposed to just the ones that actually are half-term.

How would you explain to me as an atheist why Christmas doesn’t technically end when I choose it to?

Sinkterklass on 6 December is our main celebration.

I am a renounced Catholic. We don't follow any religion. We do Christmas for the fun and family and friend time. Nothing more. So nothing 'technical' about it. Our Christmas ends on NYE.

DoIHaveToRepeatMyself · 07/11/2024 19:18

When it's Christmas! It'll go up on Christmas Eve and come down a week later

Shouldbedoing · 07/11/2024 19:20

Mid December, depending on how the weekends land for dates. Tend to take it down before returning to work in New Year as I don't like coming home to a tree in a new year if waiting for 12th Night.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 07/11/2024 19:34

As late as possible and then down again as early as possible because this is the first year we've had a cat - still a kitten - and I don't know how it's going to work!

Tuaj · 07/11/2024 20:34

Mine went up today, as I said earlier in the thread normally first weekend of dec and down Boxing Day as that’s when I’m back to work normally, this year probably down early December before an operation I’m having, so wanting some Christmas cheer before that!

HiStevenItsClemFandango · 07/11/2024 23:07

Starting to decorate for Christmas this weekend.

I'm having three trees. I'm depressed and need some serotonin, dopamine or whatever it is I get from twinkling fairy lights.

My ds is an enabler and has been asking for the tree to go up all week.

All souls nearly destroyed me and remembrance Sunday is coming, I need to inject some sparkly joy so I can be a good Mum, wife, colleague, daughter etc.
