Answer is no! But I will probably cave and let them put it up on 30th November! 🌲 but I'll know I'll want it down by Boxing Day!

Who in the name of god puts their tree up on the 23/24th dec ? What's the point

The people who work up to Christmas and for whom Christmas Eve is the start of 2 weeks of festivities.

Standin · 03/11/2024 18:25

Christmas Eve, we decorate it as a family when everyone arrives to stay for Christmas. Music on, mince pies…sherry😉.

We keep it up until 12th Night. I love the cosy, twinkly, lazy days after Christmas, when food is in, jobs are done and we can all relax with a good book or a film.

My DS is coming with DIL to stay on 24th December.

My Christmas tree will be dusted off the morning of the 24th and packed away when they've left on 28th. Probably about 9.30am!

RelativePitch · 03/11/2024 18:25

Mid-December as we have real tree and it would look sad by Christmas if up any earlier. The DCs can't bear it, everyone they know puts theirs up last weekend in November.

DancingLions · 03/11/2024 18:30

For years it was always mid December for me. But gradually it's becoming earlier. Main reason being it's so much bloody work and I just want to get it done and out the way!

I have a few new bits arriving in a week or so and will probably make a start then. The older I get the faster 1-24 dec goes and I've got to the stage where I want as much done as possible before then. I can't handle that frantic period just before anymore. Ideally everything christmas related will be done by Dec 1 and I can relax my way into christmas!

Etincelle · 03/11/2024 18:32

Early December to early Jan.

Growlybear83 · 03/11/2024 18:37

I put mine up on 23 or 24 December and take it down again on Twelfth Night.

I don’t think we’ll bother this year as we have new kittens and I think it’ll be a nightmare!

Agree with didn't bother the first Xmas we had kittens. They're two years old now so we are going to put a tree up this year.

Eager anticipation, Advent and excitement.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 03/11/2024 19:19

I normally put mine up on my birthday in the first week of dec and take it down the day before my daughters birthday in late December (her choice lol she doesn't want a joint Christmas/birthday) but I have been thinking about putting it up today because we have had 2 pretty shitty years tbh so I just wanna look at something pretty and sparkly lol

GiddyRobin · 03/11/2024 20:57

The 1st of December. I'd actually do it a bit later, but we're in Norway for the actual Christmas period so want to enjoy the decorations here first, so it doesn't matter if the tree goes a bit crispy! Then we go to Norway and put up another tree there. 😂 I love it though, and both days are so different. The kids get so excited about doing it twice!

ByMerryKoala · 03/11/2024 21:01

Usually the first or second weekend in December.

I always worked up to Christmas Eve and often back at work Stephen’s day in retail, still put my tree up in November 🤣

Grepes · 03/11/2024 21:03

Mid December. Surely the trees droop too much otherwise, especially if put up in November. I like it down before NYE so everything is nice and clean on NYD.

CalicoPusscat · 03/11/2024 21:03

It's up already I'm afraid, people.😁

FatOaf · 03/11/2024 21:15

This discussion happens here every year.

My tree will go up the weekend before Christmas, same as every year, and come down on twelfth night, same as every year.

TheTempest · 03/11/2024 21:27

Usually 1st December or thereabouts. But I’m thinking about getting the fake tree and some decs up earlier so in the next week or so and then the real tree when it arrives end of November. Honestly I’m feeling a bit flat and grey and want something to cheer me up!

weegiemum · 03/11/2024 23:58

Usually around 15/16 December as that's when we always did it as kids, just after my birthday (parents were very good at not mixing my birthday with Christmas).

Will come down 2nd probably before dh goes back to work.

But my neighbour (fondly referred to as mad Christmas man in our house) will have his outdoor decs up from last week in November and I'm sure you could see them from space! So we enjoy them. He's moving in the new year and so this is the last year after 12 years of vicariously enjoying them!

We get our tree in early December and it always lasts really well as long as we keep it standing in water. Our sitting room is pretty cold most of the time so I think that helps too.

echt · 06/11/2024 00:46

The tree and other decorations go up on Christmas Eve and down on Twelfth Night.

When is best to get a real tree please?!

Never had one before, so very excited. Have always put all decorations and fake tree up on Dec 1st, and will do so this year too, but thinking maybe real tree later so it survives?

I've got mine for the last 4 years from Send Me a Christmas Tree and have been really happy with them (apart from the year my friend convinced me to get a spruce and I fucking hated it, painful prickly needle-dropping nightmare). Last year my "Father Tom's Fir" arrived on 11 Dec and was still lovely when I took it down after Twelfth Night. Not too hot and water them well and they should last a while.

NotUnderMyUmbrella · 07/11/2024 14:53

We get a real tree so want it looking fresh on Christmas Day and 12 days of Christmas.
Up on 23rd Dec, down on 6th Jan.

But will buy it on or before12th/13th Dec and leave it in the garden as don’t want them to all sell out!
