Brighton - Less than 10 anti-immigration 'protesters' and about 1,500 counter-protesters with more arriving all the time. Jazz band playing. No violence observed or reported. A couple of buses had to stop for a few minutes to get through the crowd.

Hastings likewise - a handful of anti-immigrationists, and hundreds of counter protesters, chanting "say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here".

I thought it wasn’t starting till 8 so give it time, hopefully still nothing

From what I'm seeing on Twitter, none of the fascist twats are going to be able to get anywhere near the 'target' immigration centres due to counter-protesters filling the streets. It's very cheering.

Obviously it's good to see that there's no far right protesters and riots so far tonight...I hope that continues.

Very confused as to why there are so many Free Palestine placards and flags at the counter protests though.....

Let's hope watching their hard mates crying in courts up and down the country and being remanded and jailed has out them back in their box.

And a massive plea for the counter protesters to remain calm and a strong silent deterrent too

The slaughter happening right now in Gaza is still uppermost in people's minds, whether you like it or not.

I know they are not exactly gifted but if I were an EDL-type protestor I would save it for a night when the police hadn't been so forewarned.

Does anyone else think that whoever came up with the idea for an 'anti immigration protest' (or whatever they're calling it) in Brighton must know sod all about Britain and its culture?

We've been fed bullshit that stopping the war in the middle east are 'hate marches' by the same people telling us thugs throwing bricks at mosque, shouting 'P* out' and setting up roadblocks for non-white or English people just need to be understood about their anger....fucks sake.

Its this 14 years of gaslighting that's given us this division, racist rhetoric normalised and non-white and asylum seekers seen as sub-human .

I've nothing against peaceful protest for less immigration , stopping the boats or whatever, but last week was animal behaviour, scum who need to be locked up.

My aunt lives in Portsmouth and they had an anti-immigration rally in the main square, no arrests, very peaceful, no police attacked , not hotels burnt down or mosques bricked.

The counterprotestors are a mix of ages, many older folk, some younger. A few may be ready for trouble, but the vast vast majority just calmly standing up to be counted. A bit of chanting, several bands playing.
