Brighton - Less than 10 anti-immigration 'protesters' and about 1,500 counter-protesters with more arriving all the time. Jazz band playing. No violence observed or reported. A couple of buses had to stop for a few minutes to get through the crowd.

Hastings likewise - a handful of anti-immigrationists, and hundreds of counter protesters, chanting "say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here".

Unless the protestors are going round knocking on fellow rioter's doors they're going to rely on the internet / electric comms to organise any future protests. Hopefully the police will continue being forewarned.

@Muthaofcats Of course! My Grandmother was a dyed in the wool racist, hated the Pakistani communities in parts of Yorkshire for reasons she never quite managed to articulate.

Of course when her oncologist turned out to be from Pakistan that was different 🙄

Isn’t that exactly the point of the person asking why the Palestinian flag. Those counter protests shouldn’t be about divisive politics, they should be about standing up for what our country represents, democracy and tolerance. It’s inappropriate to be pushing an agenda in this context.

I think now some of the main online protagonists are both falling out between themselves and falling over themselves (metaphorically) to distance from the violence then there will be less coordinated action and less willingness of individuals to put their own lives on the line in terms of prison, jobs etc.
There have been fake videos circulating of events on my nearby city but as I drove through it was exceptionally quiet - places were shut in anticipation though so that helped ease normal congestion as well - but can confirm only anti racist peaceful presence as far as I could see.

I wasn't there but the response reminds me of somewhere I pass on my way to the office each time, Cable Street. When in 1936 people showed how the far right were not welcome.

There’s still around 1,000 people milling about in West St and Old Market and it’s become something of a party atmosphere with a mini sound system playing music and people sat around on the road chatting and laughing.

Quiet unlike Robert Jenrick who is selective who he condemns.

Went to the counter protest in Norwich today - probably 300/400 of us and maybe 30 far righters, who were also so so so young. There were some that must have only been 10/11.

That was very shocking to see. But glad we had so many of us and it was very peaceful and glad I went. Met some lovely people.
