I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

What I hate about this weather is that the forecast is for rain, so the washing stays inside. it doesn't rain. In fact the sun comes out and it's almost pleasant. So, next batch of washing, I say "eff it" and put the washing outside. Baaaaadooosh! It pisses down.

But I was talking to an American colleague the other day about what I was planning to wear to a memorial service at 5pm on 10 June. I have a suit lined up. But what if it should be warm? Think I was trying to talk myself into a linen dress.

She said "don't forget that's right in the middle of the hottest part of the day" and "remember, flaming June.". I realised I was being silly. We had a hot June a few years ago, but then the British weather remembered itself and went back to bloody miserable.

Girlwithapple · 31/05/2024 09:34

@fieldsofbutterflies that's it, I am moving to Cumbria! (Gorgeous part of the country!) It's still raining here. I've got a quiet day with it being half term but guess what time the real heavy rain is coming? Right when I am out walking 😫

yellowsmileyface · 31/05/2024 09:44

@Kittensat36 Yes, it's so hard to dress for this weather! I have a few events coming up in June and I feel like I can't plan my outfits because who knows what the weather will be like. Could get lucky and have a nice day, or it could be torrential rain. Or the day could start out sunny and turn miserable by the afternoon.

Normally around this time of year I'd be packing away my winter clothes, but feel like that would probably be tempting fate, especially as I was in a knitted jumper just yesterday ffs.

wendycupcakes · 31/05/2024 09:45

Been heavy rain and wind all night and still is here.
And I love it.

PanicAttax · 31/05/2024 09:46

I've got to take the dog out before we meet people in town. Really suffering with tiredness (medical stuff) and the rain is making me procrastinate even more which is causing anxiety because of the time limit. Gah.

Yes, so do I - from December to February, not from 2023 to 2024. Ffs.

notanothernana · 31/05/2024 09:51

Beautiful and sunny here today.

fieldsofbutterflies · 31/05/2024 10:03

@Girlwithapple this time last year I was doing early walks and visits to avoid the heat 😂 it's crazy how different this year has been!

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 10:08

wendycupcakes · 31/05/2024 09:52

Everyone is different.

What is it you love about months and months of torrential rain and wind?

Dozycuntlaters · 31/05/2024 10:10

I'm bloody sick of it. Fed up of wet rain dog walks, its just so depressing. We had a nice weekend a couple of weeks ago, I got all the garden done, scrubbed my patio getting it lovely for the summer.....but I think that weekend was our summer. Mind you, I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks in July so the UK will probably have a heatwave then and go back to raining once I get home.

I just like it same as winter my favourite time of the year.
Thunder storms fog frost rough winds hailstones dark damp wet cloudy days.
Also find it more peaceful.
Always have always will like it.
I've never been a fan of summer or bright hot sunny days.
Not everyone is a sunny sun fan.

CordylineCapybara · 31/05/2024 10:21

We're in Scarborough for half term and it has rained every day 😥

Mozzarellaballs · 31/05/2024 10:34

@wendycupcakes gaaaahhhhhh!! So what if you love it. Fine if it is cold and wet in the Winter months but it is supposed to be nice now and it is not! It's not helpful saying you love it, let us have our turn! Imagine it was boiling hot through Winter which you would hate. well that's what it is like for us in Summer. I actually feel so foggy from it

😂certainly is!!

@wendycupcakes interestingly I am not a 'sunny sun' fan either. We've always had large dogs, which generally, tend to find high temperatures harder to deal with than smaller dogs. Plus outdoor animals that need keeping cool. As @fieldsofbutterflies has mentioned, in our job high temperatures make things difficult as you need to rearrange, adapt and even cancel walks as it is not fair or safe for the dog (or us).

I do think there is a happy medium to be had though between the summer we had a couple of years ago with 40°c heat, no rain and no breeze even and having a summer with temperatures mid teens °c with torrential downpours and howling winds more days than not......

zingally · 31/05/2024 10:39

I went out early-ish Wednesday morning, about 7:45, and I could see my breath as I walked to my car!
I mean, come on, it's the end of May, not November!

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 31/05/2024 10:48

Honestly can't remember what the sun looks like.

The cats are doing my head in as they want to go outside, they take one look and then back off and end up pestering me instead.

I want to wear my lovely summer dresses and shorts. I want to sit and work in the garden whilst struggling to see the laptop screen and cursing the neighbour playing loud music. I want to sit and have lunch/dinner outside. I most of all want to ditch the jeans and bloody thick jumpers.

It's so bloody depressing, and I know it isn't helping my mood at the moment.

Theunamedcat · 31/05/2024 10:54

I'm intolerant to the sun and even I'm hating this weather I just want dry feet!! I honestly don't mind hiding indoors watching people enjoying the weather most the time and suncream long sleeves fix the issue the rest of the time

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/05/2024 11:00

Like a PP, I'm intolerant of the sun, but I bloody hate rain.

My conservatory leaks, so I'm constantly emptying containers and checking for any new leaks springing up.

I've not yet been able to wear my new flip flops.

The only saving grace is that we've been able to time our daily walks between showers, and the evenings have been pleasantly cool. When we got back last night though, I had to pit the heating on and it felt like Autumn.

It's June tomorrow!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/05/2024 11:01

Oh, and the garden has gone berserk. Lawn, hedges and shrubs are just taking over like a bloody jungle!

The people who love the rain?

Do they have jobs, kids or any responsibilities that they need to leave the house for?

Or are they ones that stay home nice and safe and warm and dry?

It's an odd sort of mean to read posts, "halt term away with the kids and it's rained everyday" to follow up with "I love the rain I like it when people can't use their gardens". On a thread like this it's just mean isn't it? Like odd mean taking pleasure in other people's misery type thing, the more and younger the better. It's odd.

Actually it's probably best they stay home warm and safe.

LlynTegid · 31/05/2024 11:40

It will be warmer and better next week as schools are back.

I've lived in Ireland for nearly 2 decades now and been coming here for holidays and to visit relations all my life but God help us, this last year has been a washout even by Irish standards, plus it's been so cold some days I've had to light the stove1 I had to buy a bag of blocks or eco logs the last few days and the price of them has nearly doubled this last year. Apparently it's supposed to be ok this weekend but sure, the Irish weather? Anything could happen!
I'm a bit shocked to learn that ye have had it so bad over in England, it's usually a fair bit dryer over there than here!

North west here. Nicely insulated house. Had to light a log fire two nights ago.

Last night I pondered putting the underfloor heating back on.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/05/2024 11:43

It’s blowing a gale here this morning, too. Heavy rain yesterday (outer SW London.)

Weather seems to be weird all over ATM. Was talking the other day to a sister who lives in Cape Cod (NE US) she said it’s been a lot colder and wetter than usual there, too.

OTOH according to the news yesterday, poor old Delhi is suffering a nearly 50 deg. heatwave.
