Rain again

spanieleyes22 · 30/05/2024 12:58

I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

OP posts:

Agree @ZipZapZoom

I would also suggest that if you’re going to ignore a perfectly reasonable request by the OP then at least have some really sound reasons for loving something that has a significant and detrimental affect on so many people, services and the economy. A continuous ‘I just do’ is so tone deaf.

thinkingfood · 31/05/2024 15:29

ZipZapZoom · 31/05/2024 15:25

Well it's also wrong and not kind to post on a thread where it's very clear what kind of discussion the OP is starting. I mean she couldn't have been more clear. Don't you think?

I read clear and i read other comments clear but why the pile on a random poster because of a comment a few others have said the same thats rude to pick out one person to pile on.

So thats what 3-4 posters piling on one because she likes the rain again others have said the same.

I said in my first response to you probably because people got fed up of all the people saying how great the rain was, nothing personal. If that poster hadn't continued to post about how we're all wrong and the rain is amazing then people wouldn't have continued to reply to them. It's no ruder to respond than it is to hijack a thread with a very clear objective and continually argue that it's all a mindset problem and those posting are wrong.

Seriously why not instead just start your own thread about liking the rain?

nomailtodaythankyou · 31/05/2024 15:37

Im with you @wendycupcakes We just have to get on with it.
Im not keen on hot bright days either.
All this because you like rain just ignore the comments their making their selfs look silly.

Sux2buthen · 31/05/2024 15:38

If you start a thread about the cooler wet weather the sun worshippers appear to rant about it 🤣.
As I've seen so many times parroted out on here; it's an open forum and people can respond any way they like within talk guidelines.
As for tone deaf, you could apply that in any conversation because there's always something worse going on somewhere.
Not everyone hates damp weather and that's fine .
Not everyone hates hot weather, that's also fine,

No-one was piling on - they were pointing out the detrimental impacts of endless months of rain. The continuous replies from that poster in turn invited replies.

Picking up on @ZipZapZoom ’s point - what exactly is the point of posting something that the OP has specifically requested you don’t post?

Sorry i dont want to get involved but you were all pilling on @wendycupcakes.

We called our UK half term camping trip short. Too wet, too windy and too cold. We always camp this week and this is by far the worst we have had in a very long time. Have had enough now. Plants not thriving in the garden (my happy place at home) and I am seriously considering popping the heating on this evening.

So fed up.

Yep, and in turn they (rightly) get taken to task when they rant about it when they’ve been asked not to.

I think the weather as made some mumnetters a little unkind today lol😆

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 15:48

I agree - the sunshine has obviously disappointed the posters who prefer the rain.

Sux2buthen · 31/05/2024 15:53

Ah, happily there is no sunshine ☔️

It's all the same poster

I must admit it seems like they have very similar writing styles, same typos etc and suspiciously when one starts the previous poster magically stopped replying...

Oh what a shame. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your viewpoint obviously) the weather forecast today is showing widespread dry weather across the UK.

Sux2buthen · 31/05/2024 16:34

Dry, not sunny or hot Grin
Perfect 👌🏻

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 16:36

As long as it’s not raining, sleeting, pelting hailstones or snowing as per the last 5/6 months then great!

PlayBo · 31/05/2024 16:37

Oooo I love a weather thread!

It was 50°C in Delhi, India the other day. Just saying…

PiranhaPeaches · 31/05/2024 16:38

Love it or loathe it, the weather doesn't care what you think. Nor does the earth's rotation and the seasons and the length of the days / nights. It will do what it will do and short of hugely changing our lifestyles so we have much less of a climate impact, it will keep on doing what it will do.

So you can either wind yourself up and give yourself stress getting annoyed at a natural phenomenon, or you can change your plans and try to do what you can. Which is better for you?

GingerPirate · 31/05/2024 16:40

I can't stand cozy hot chocolate, however,
I'm a person who has been depressed in Spring and Summer 🏝️ 🌞 since childhood.
It pisses me off I cannot do much work around the house in this weather, but otherwise I'm okay with it.
Just for a laugh - I'm not sure I got used to the Summer time, yet. Seriously.

You know what? Both are perfectly possible.

We can come onto MN, have a good rant, acknowledge that a particular type of weather for months on end is not great for a multitude of reasons, recognise that all emotions are valid and that it’s ok to be pissed off because you can’t do X, Y or Z, be very aware of the wider impact of endless rain or endless dry weather, look at ways we can do our bit to reduce the effects of climate change, and make alternative plans wherever possible.

Timeturnerplease · 31/05/2024 17:29

I don’t care about the temperature but the rain can do one. DDs are 5 and almost 3, so we’ve been outside every day this half term week but it’s just miserable with rain driving in your face, regardless of how well kitted out you are. We definitely haven’t enjoyed the farms, adventure parks etc we’ve saved up to go to as much as if it had been dry.

Only positive is that I no longer give one shiny shit what anyone thinks about the dry robe style coat I purchased from Vinted. It’s been worth its weight in gold this week.

There as been a few on here that have said the same thing they like.

If you like being soaked and prefer damp tepid environments why not just stand in the shower and sit around in your damp mouldy smelling rain gear, sorted. Most rational people realise that prolonged periods of rain without any sun has an effect on mental health, farming, tourism, increase of mould spores that trigger asthma and allergies and effects our immune systems.

I have Middle Eastern heritage, in dry super hot weather I'm bouncing around playing tennis at 12 noon when most people are breaking into pools of sweat standing still. Whilst I'd love 104 degrees all year round I'm acutely aware of the fact that for many people life would be miserable because they may not adapt to it.

Extreme weather maybe should include prolonged rain fall because it is altering our environment. I see ferns growing now out between the pavement on the chalk soil of our market town on the south downs. I see thick moss, algae and lichen growing up the walls of buildings where it wasn't before. And many people are battling mould in their homes now.

So, like I say, you like being wet go stand in your shower.

Tomatina · 31/05/2024 18:12

West country here. I'm sitting on the sofa typing this, dressed in shirt, jeans, jumper, under a blanket with a hot water bottle (it was either the hot water bottle or turn the heating on). Haven't been able get warm all day, despite a walk. We had about ten days of decentish weather earlier in May, but now it's back to the default: grey sky, windy, damp and chilly. And before that it had rained continuously since October (not an exaggeration).

I feel so sad for the children and families on their washout half term break, and I'm sad to see all the roses and wildflowers out, being battered by the wind and rain. The forecast is promising some sun next week, but I don't trust the forecast now.

What I'd really like (apart from the sun on my body) is to be able to relax outside in the evening with a drink, maybe outside a pub, or in my tiny garden, just dressed in something lighter than a puffy anorak!
