Rain again

I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

OP posts:

I love definite seasons: hot summers, crisp autumn, snowy winter and fresh spring. Really miss it where I used to live.

Sux2buthen · 31/05/2024 18:55

@LooneyLiberalSpaceWaster we don't need to, it's outside.

PlayBo · 31/05/2024 19:36

Did anyone mention hot chocolate?

Yes! See as much as I don't like Autumn and Winter, this is fair. I think people have got annoyed with certain posters saying about the rain and loving it is because it shouldn't be like this at this time of year so when they say they love it, it feels like it is rubbing it in. Lets all have our fair share of seasons we like.

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 31/05/2024 19:49

I don't like the sun much. I get migraines from the glare, I get anxiety attacks hearing the neighbours blasting out music in their gardens (due to previous nightmare neighbours and noise sensitivity). I get too hot easily. I burn rather than tan and sunscreen is gross.

However, the incessant and often heavy rain is a nightmare.
I can't drive so just getting anywhere I get wet - I have good waterproofs but in the really heavy downpours water still manages to get in.
In torrential rain even my wellies just let water in (yes I've bought another pair and another more expensive pair over the past few years).
Nothing dries - and I don't have a tumble drier, just a dehumidifier.
Everywhere I can walk the dog is sodden and cleaning my shoes after muddy fields is horrible.
The rain is actually damaging the house now, and there's nothing I can do to stop it, plus we've also had to throw furniture away this year because it had gone mouldy inside and out in our (cold) extension, which may not 100% be the fault of the sodding rain but I'm blaming it anyway.

Also anyone saying its worse elsewhere so we should be grateful - that is the same as my disabled husband saying I should be grateful for a migraine as he has it worse (he doesn't but he could). No. Thank. You.

Did anyone mention hot chocolate?

Or hot choc

All cozy woozy snuggly wuggly toasty

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/05/2024 20:03

Sigh. Clearly it's not only people with small children who are suffering in this miserable weather.

People without children (gasp!) also want to feel a bit of warmth, have some natural light in the house, be able to go outside without coats, to be able to sit out and enjoy their garden or balcony or park, to be able to get their washing dry outside. To feel comfortable inside the house without heating on.

The whole world doesn't revolve around young children.

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 20:07

No-one said it did Confused

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 31/05/2024 20:52

Also it's like a more depressing Narnia... always winter but never [feels like] Christmas.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/05/2024 20:59

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 16:52

You know what? Both are perfectly possible.

We can come onto MN, have a good rant, acknowledge that a particular type of weather for months on end is not great for a multitude of reasons, recognise that all emotions are valid and that it’s ok to be pissed off because you can’t do X, Y or Z, be very aware of the wider impact of endless rain or endless dry weather, look at ways we can do our bit to reduce the effects of climate change, and make alternative plans wherever possible.

Edited

Exactly. I'm pretty sure in everyday society it's actually OK to occasionally complain (my arthritis is better in dry weather for example) without being labelled as some kind of psychotic idiot that can't cope with life.

In fact, the British make a hobby of it. And rightly so, as we have a shite climate at the best of times.

Nopetynope · 31/05/2024 21:05

Caved in this evening and have put the heating on . Am absolutely pissed off with this weather and am definitely gonna piss off somewhere warm when I next have 4-5 days off in a row. Looking at mid June !

I must admit it seems like they have very similar writing styles, same typos etc and suspiciously when one starts the previous poster magically stopped replying...

How do you know someone has name changed on the same thread ? Just curious.

RampantIvy · 31/05/2024 21:26

It only took 7 replies before we got the first "cosy".

Do these people never spend any time outside?

Strongbeatsskinny · 31/05/2024 22:03

I’m fed up with the constant rain and wind just dry days would be a start. I want to be able to dry my washing outside too. Every evening I sit on the sofa with a blanket over me as I feel cold and the indoor thermometer is at a comfortable temperature. So fed up with it now but so glad I’ve been on holiday recently and have another one to look forward later in the year.

socks1107 · 31/05/2024 22:41

I've popped our electric blanket on tonight. Our bedroom was so cold

For me, it was an identical posting style; mainly all lower case, talking about them 'selfs' so similar typos / spelling mistakes, no posting history at all for all four user names, each new user name defending the poster who originally spammed the thread with 20 posts about loving rain and berating those that don't.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/05/2024 22:52

Just back home from a walk around our village with DD. Lovely light night even though the sun set an hour ago (as in dry, but chilly) Distinct smell of woodsmoke in the air though, so a few folk must have still had their fires / wood burners still going. It's 8 degrees.

Hope the sun shines tomorrow. I really need my grass to dry out so I can cut it, and the bees need to fly without the threat of rain (beekeeper)

Justcallmebebes · 31/05/2024 22:57

Totally get you OP but looking better for the weekend so can mow the lawn. Yah. Not

PuppetQueen · 31/05/2024 23:14

The strange thing is, the BBC are adamant that the temperatures this spring have been "well above average":
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/cz44911j2d4o

It certainly hasn't felt well above average where I live in the south east, and I'm still in jeans and cardigans most of the time. The vegetables in my allotment also don't seem to be convinced. I can only think that the BBC's figures include night-time temperatures and that the constant cloud has meant that milder nights have pushed up the overall average temperature for each month. I suspect that the daytime temperatures are actually below average.

Spray launched high into the air as a car drives through flood waters.

Spring 2024 has been very wet and mild. Will summer be warm?

Parts of the UK could have seen their wettest spring on record. Chris Fawkes looks back at the conditions we've seen and what might be in store for summer.

It's definitely been much cooler than normal. Maybe they are including months that I usually class as winter like March, as this winter past was really warm. Barely a decent frost. Which was also really annoying as I do like a nice snowy cold winter (but in its proper place in the year only, please).

Vitamin D makes your hair and nails grow stronger. Just saying, to those who don't like going out in the sunshine....I'm going to be out as long as poss today if it perks up as my nails need a bit of attention from the sun.

Take a bow, Enola Holmes !

I had a comment on another thread (civil, with jocular intent) viciously attacked,
thought, hmmm, looked up the responder, would you believe it, their one and only comment, duly ignored it.
The subject of your investigation here has a long pointy stick, brought her/his

How and why do posters enable her/his perfidy.

But old jaded adults who just want to sit and hang washing have an entire adulthood to sit and hang washing.

You only get a few summers as a carefree child. And with your carefree child. Can you understand that perhaps?

Some people are just so self absorbed and for a site called Mumsnet really seem to dislike kids or anyone who has them!
